Thanksgiving Special: WORLD'S GREATEST MAGIC: Jeff McBride
Переглядів 15221 день тому
I go back down memory lane to revisit the second WGM special which aired in 1995 and featured world class performer Jeff McBride. The actual clip from WGM wasn't available so I used his spot on Le Plus Grande Cabaret Du Monde, which is extremely similar to Jeff's WGM performance. #magic #jeffmcbride #jasonbishop #worldsgreatestmagic

Taking stock of failures and successes in 2023. After feeling like 2023 might have been a wasted year I considered what it really held, including performing for Christian Bale.

If I were to guess why he doesn't like this special, It's because of the amount of Montages/Performances without an audience. Vanishing into the Bermuda Triangle alone felt like a montage cause one part was nighttime and then it was daylight.
I’m not sure. Good ideas. I think it had lower ratings and yeah I think there was something about the actual vanish into the triangle that he didn’t like. I thought it had a lot of good magic in it but, it certainly took from the music video montage aesthetics of those days.
I’m watching and commenting … you’re right about Jeff. He’s incredibly talented. I first saw him do the mask act on Paul Daniels, with the Kraftwerk music. Never seen anything like it. I miss these type of magic shows to jazz up the young magicians and get them excited about magic. We need more variety shows
I miss these shows too. I actually said that in the video but cut it out because kids just find stuff on UA-cam now. But to have that one big night each year where your life changed each time… that was special.
Hiiii I went to your shows and my friend Becca it was her birthday and you saw her and also gizmo was my bffs dog !!!!
Thanks for coming and I hope Becca had a happy birthday!
I just saw your show and gross
Why did you flip the video?
I don’t know. Good question. Maybe the video I found was flipped. Not sure.
Nicely done...I like the way you reacted, as if you're caught off guard yourself, by the sound of a creaky door opening..
Ha thanks, it was fun to do… err, I mean scary!!
He has a fake left hand hanging. his other hand is inside his pants
It's such a sensual performance.
He seems to move with the music.
I've seen Doug Henning perform this illusion...same moves, with his wife.😊
Doug was the first and did it quite differently. He did it to a poem and used small blades. Both versions are great.
Saw you months ago and it was awesome. You got a great sense of humor, too. My little brother went up front with you with a $10 bill and came back with a $100. I have no idea how you do any of it but i was impressed 😂
Thanks for the comment. So glad you and your family had fun and have good memories of the show!
You cannot just pull a trigger and it fires, it has to be pushed down on the surface. There are 30 nails in the clip but he has more than 30 nails in the board. Great trick but clearly not shooting nails out of that gun. Coll trick
The pendragons variation of origami is my favorite
Hans Klok bought this illusion from the Moretti family, which refused to sell it to David Copperfield, who gave them a blank check and basically told them: "ask anything that you want". The main reason why they sold it to hans klok, is because they liked Hans Klok for the fact that he was also touring with a circus like the Moretti's did. I saw this illusion life performed by Hans Klok and it was amazing. I think it is real and not a trick, which leads to the conclusion that it is the way the swords are pushed through (not always straight). By the way Hans Klok refuses to do the illusion with chickens and a goose, simply because he is against that type of practice. The swords are real and very sharp.
Great comment. Thanks for the insight!
Had a great time at your show on the Liberty of the seas. Thank you for Mr. Tanner.
Glad you had fun. My pleasure, you’re welcome for Mr. Tanner. It’s a neat throwback to do.

JASOOOON YOUR SHOW AT ROYAL CARIBBEAN WAS SO GOOD !!, Taylor and her nine of diamonds 💎
@@Im_a_human_trust_me thank you!! 🙏🏼
Life is Good 👍👍
i was at the show on the royal caribbian cruise it was the week of the 13 of july
Cool. Hope you had fun.
@@JasonBishopIllusionist i did it was cool
Jason love watching you. Waiting for you to come to Fort Worth again. Have a blessed weekend. Say “hi” to Kim for me and a love for Gizmo Victoria ❤❤❤
well there was that one scene in batman the animated series where he does the swallowing a sword trick
LOVED that show. I don’t remember that scene but take your word for it.
@@JasonBishopIllusionist it was the episode where he impersonated a clown at the mayor sons birthday party because the mayor said batman was a bigger threat than the joker
the guy looks terrified of his own magic jokes aside, this is probably one of the best magicians out there
He does look terrified. And his character is, because he’s likely supposed to be hallucinating. I’d characterize this more like Cardini, where even though the magician is in control his character is being “haunted” by the magic. Agreed, one of the best acts I’ve seen in so long.
the music is mercy street by Peter Gabriel
Thanks
My fav tv special of all time I also noticed David picks real good songs that marry the illusion perfectly .
He definitely had great song choices.
It's the build up that makes this trick. It's not everyone's cup of tea but a decent illusion for corporate events like you said.
I saw him perform this trick in Hilpoltstein Germany in 1978. My friend Steve McCloud (rip) was picked from the audience to put the swords in the box. A great illusion
That’s very cool that you got to see it live and your friend helped. Thanks for sharing, and for watching.
Lance Burton did a version of Bump in the Night that didn't age well, but at the time, it was the best I've seen since the Pendragons.
Yeah I know the one you’re talking about. It was a unique version for sure. Bumps is such a great illusion. I liked Copperfield’s version with the sheep dogs too.
On Liberty of the seas i was in the key section (the second floor)
When I was taking Chavez it was Channing, Lance, Norm, Shimada, and Joseph - the GOATS
Very cool. Definitely all legends.
I saw Hans do this at a Magic Convention and it was shocking. Magicians freaked out. Standing ovation. I like his style - old school Circus performer.
Very cool! That would’ve been a memorable experience.
Even guys like Copperfield so much want this trick, but Klok got it, because he is such a genuinely nice and normal guy, he also deserved it to be allowed to buy this trick. Klok is my favourite illusionist, he is a normal dutch guy, non arrogant, a guy who is genuinely proud of everything he did and someone you can just have a pint with in a cafe. I love this guy ❤️❤️❤️
@@kupfeli I like Hans Klok's work. I didn't know he'd gotten the rights to the trick. I'm sure he'll do an amazing job!
A very simple trick wraped around a lot of BS.
Sounds like it wasn’t to your liking. Have a great rest of the day!
Jim Steinmeyer developed the illusion and it was performed by Doug Henning first. John Gaughan built the illusion for Henning. He didn't use lights and smoke, he just performed it on an empty stage with no music or stage effects. Copperfield continues to get all the attention, he shouldn't, he's good at what he does, (on and off the stage 🙄), I wish Henning would get more of the credit he deserves.
Doug was phenomenal but for many people it takes a lot to look past the fact that he fixed himself in a time by performing as a hippie, it dates the performances. It took me a very long time to appreciate Doug and I know it was the same for other magicians who weren’t around in the 70’s. Where as Copperfield has performed in a cool and powerful way since at least the mid-80’s. As stage magicians though we all definitely stand on Doug’s shoulders, including David Copperfield.
I got to see Doug Henning perform this live in Clearwater Florida. He put on a great show and it was fun throughout. I never compare David and Doug because they are (were) both masters of their craft, brilliant entertainers who used completely different methods to connect with their audiences. The best. Both of them.
The story I heard from Andre Kole was that DC paid $50,000 to use this music on his special. At the time it was the most money he spent on music for a single performance.
Interesting. I’m sure it wasn’t cheap!
i saw you in the theater during the arts and literacy festival, wish i could’ve gotten a picture, you were so cool
Thanks so much! Thanks for coming to the festival and the show!!!
Also i love your dog 🐕 its sooo cute 🥰🥺
Hi and I saw you at the Paramount in Abilene TX, today you were amazing 🤩😍😍😍😍 I especially love the magic trick where you swap places with your partner that trick was my favorite 😁😁 you were also so funny well also I subbed to you 😊
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the show and thanks for the sub!
Very well done. He is right, it’s a difficult piece. Angelo helped me a lot at first.
Torn and restored flag. Nice convincer on the box emptiness. Never seen this done with a man in the box - always a woman.
Agreed and agreed. All wrapped up nicely in a patriotic, historic story.
I Haven't seen this clip before thanks for sharing. That was a beautiful presentation I agree with you this is what made Copperfield so unique
You’re welcome. I enjoyed the creativity, sentimentality and patriotism too.
It’s still an unbelievable illusion. Paul Daniels did this and he moved the centre box completely away from the other sections!
I love it. Under the right conditions I’d 100% do this illusion in a show. It’s so neat and I learned after this video that the versions Harbin made could be broken down and carried onto an airplane and carried by one person! Crazy.
My brain ant braing after that😂😂
Did you do a Field trip in August or September of 2023 at the fox energy center in GA??
Yeah we did. The kids were a great audience.
@jasonbishopillusionist I was at the very top
Hey Jason your performance on the royal carribean liberty of the seas was amazing I was there just Wednesday night watching your show on board I was amazed and I hope you will have some shows soon where I live because I’m from Canada I hope to see you soon god bless and take care❤❤😮😮
Thanks so much! We do get to Canada sometimes every few years.
I love that they're morally opposed to putting anyone at risk for the sake of a trick. But also, watching these two performances synced, and with how well it's scripted and executed - I'd like to think (sans nail gun) they coulda done the same basic gag back in the old days of just mental acumen and oration.
I’m certain you’re right, they could have. But the shear danger, noise and uniqueness of the pneumatic air gun is captivating to an audience. I love that performance.
I remember seeing this when it aired. I'm a magician, and I thought it was pretty funny.
lost in the sauce
😂
Pretty sure I worked it out
I’m almost 100% sure you didn’t. Nearly no professional magician even figures that trick out fully without it being explained. It’s an elegantly brilliant illusion.
