Drentsche Aa National Park is a landscape frozen in time. The creek Drentsche Aa meanders its way through the landscape, just like it has been doing for hundreds of years. The Drentsche Aa has shaped the land, and mankind has made a full use of it with hedgerows, heathlands and traditionally farmed fields. Together with the stream, the typical Drentse esdorp landscape was preserved: the farming plots around the village square, the fields on the elevated land, the hayfields and the meadows down in the valley of the stream.
The walk goes past a hunebed (dolmen), granite prehistoric burial chamber built by the Funnelbeaker people some 5000 years ago. And we encounter many storks.
