80 years ago, on 20th December 1943, 3,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes and farms across 30,000 acres of the South Hams countryside around Slapton, Devon.

    My mother Rosemary Martin was involved in removing stock from the farms at Blackawton and her sister Nancy Martin worked with the WRVS helping the inhabitants to move from their homes .It was top secret and neither knew what the other was involved with

    Squire Richard Cabell was my 6th great grandfather (the tomb also houses his parents, my 7th great-grandparents), and I have visited the graveyard and surrounding areas several times. It is a fascinating place, quite special, and I appreciate you making this video.

    Great reconstruction 😊 love it! Dr Helby's accident was 24th March 1921 - as reported in the first newspaper report of the time in March 1921. My great grandfather worked at Dartmoor prison alongside Dr Helby at that time. The British Newspaper Archive has all the original reports

    Hello just found your channel and it's interesting as When I was a child I lived near kitty Jay's grave having moved from Dawlish, and my Mum was one of the people who put flowers on the grave! Ive moved away now but come back for holidays all over different parts of Devon, particularly love the coast. ❤
