    Taking the Mississippi down to New Orleans is one option. The most common route is the Ohio to the Tennessee River then down. More scenic and less commercial traffic. Also has more facilities such as marinas.

    That route takes you further east and exits in Alabama at the Gulf? Can you share with us the pro /con as why you choose Ohio over Mississippi? Do tell and thank you .

    I saw a new boat with expandable solar wing like you did and they used gas assisted shocks. They could pull them in or extent them from inside the boat. ua-cam.com/video/ffmqgnLA0oc/v-deo.htmlsi=K-cNJZMMg6thak-9

  • @Artist_Kevin

    Might have to use gas struts, like used on the hoods of a cars, plenty heavy use. Or... Rigging from above.

  • @BryansElectricTrawler
    @BryansElectricTrawler 25 днів тому

    So the problem is that it’s way to heavy to lift up and angle. I can get them to 30% down angle for now. Folding them to down is a bit easier. The answer may be to separate each panel so they fold independently. Still heavy.

    Lithium batteries can take huge amounts of charging current. I am not even close to the max. In total with sun and 2 -30 amp shore plugs, it will be around 150 amps at 48 volts. That’s for all six batteries. If I had to do this all over again, I would install a 50 amp 240 volt inverter charger. The downside to that is it’s a single point of failure. Now I have 2 completely separate 30 amp charging systems. Also, many canadian marinas and all the locks only have 30 amp power.

    Is there a point where it's too much charging? Bad for the batteries? Heat / thermal run away or combustion issues? As a network tech, I'm battery illiterate but getting better.

    Ralph, I would highly recommend doing the Trent Severn. Doing it solo adds a bit more adventure. I would not do it solo without either a stern drive and/or thrusters. Having a remote around my neck for both stern and bow thruster was invaluable. A stern drive with only a bow thruster would work as well. You will hear many boaters claim they can maneuver their boats just fine with twin shaft drives and no thrusters. I would like to see them get into a lock with a cross wind pushing away from the wall and 3/4 other boats already in the lock. Just my opinion. I say go for it. 70 is not old.

    • @ralphbush372
      @ralphbush372 Місяць тому

      Thanks for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately for me, my boat is a single engine, and I can't justify the expense of adding thrusters that would amount to a good percentage of the total value of my 40 year old vessel. I can run her pretty well all by myself, but sometimes even getting back into my own slip is a bit of a struggle with the prevailing crosswind. Good luck on your journey, and I will continue to follow you along.

  • @ralphbush372
    @ralphbush372 Місяць тому

    Been following your journey with great interest. I think electric boats are going to have to be the way of the future. Every time I fire up my 45 year old Lehman diesel I feel a twinge of guilt about how much greenhouse gas it must be spitting into the atmosphere. I thought I would ask you a question and hope you have a few minutes to respond. I'm a 70 year old guy, and I can see the end of my boating seasons looming closer. I would really like to do the Trent Severn waterway before I hang it up, but everyone is saying that you shouldn't try it solo. I have been watching you and a few other UA-camrs doing it so let me ask you this: - are you an old hand with lots of boat handling experience? - would you still do the trip if your boat was a single engine and had no thrusters? I noticed in this video you mentioned having some trouble with currents getting into a lock. Good luck on your travels, and thanks for taking us along for the ride.
