Farmall H and McCormick w4 Governor Set up
Переглядів 38 тис.6 років тому
This is a quick rundown on how to set up the governor on a Farmall H or McCormick W4 tractor. Before we set the governor up you are going to want to make sure that your timing is set, spark plugs are gapped correctly and in good working order, ignition system is working well, valve lash is correct, carburetor is clean and adjusted properly (you may have to adjust some carb settings when setting...
Does the tractor need to be in gear to hit 1600rpm? I have rebuilt the carb and set timing, upgraded to 12vdc everything. I set my low idle and adjust the pin to be free. It runs great. However when in its neutral my high idle max is 690-700. I assumed my spring was weak so I pushed the speed lever by hand in and the tractor would run up to 1600 while fitting me back in neutral. I didn’t put it in gear and try to drive it cause I was pissed at the time. Then I started thinking I gave up too soon after coming home.
45 foot pounds?? The manual take 4,5 foot pounds or 6 Nm Are you sure of that?
Is there not a key way on the crankshaft?
Yes, there is.
@@steelcitymechanical3902 Does the key way coincide with TDC and the TDC mark on the rotor?
@@chasingwhitelines Not that I'm aware of, it is there to locate the flywheel in a fixed position on the tapered shaft.
@@steelcitymechanical3902 OK. That would have been too much forward thinking for the engineers. These lionelli ignition systems are mindblowingly over engineered. I don't understand why honda can have a cdi box with the advance built in and these sytems have a hall effect that runs the advance curves. Just a short background, no/intermittent spark condition, and all the tests I've run point to the CDI box. Additionally, the coil being built into the cdi box doesn't allow you to isolate any more components than the Pulse generation circuit and the Kill switch. The tests I've run on the pulse/high voltage circuit are producing good AC voltage with my DVA adapter. The reading i've done there is no way to test the hall effect sensor, granted that would produce a stumbling, ignition timing issue, not a full out no spark condition. I believe that my conclusions are correct that the CDI box is at fault.
@@chasingwhitelines I have seen the cdi crap out once it gets hot, or wet. Intermittent no spark is no fun to deal with. Judging by what you have said and assuming you have run the tests properly, I would agree with your conclusion.
Is that a 4 wheel drive h?!?!
I have a question for you my h runs good at low idle and high idle just rebuild carb but as I try to drive it she sluggish and almost shuts off any thoughts what causes it I think carb set correctly but could be wrong it’s my first carb set
Could be a carb issue, try choking it a little bit when you advance the throttle and see if it clears up. Have you checked everything else?
@@steelcitymechanical3902 I have not bought this tractor knowing carb needing rebuild I have not messed with governor I’m kinda in the dark on this right now if you know what I mean
I think i can use this stuff for some tape decks or record players ? Thanks for this video..
Thank you! This was exactly what was wrong with my 1944 H. I had to slide the bracket up about 1/8". What a difference that made. I do have the Service Manual. The manual talks about the importance of this very adjustment.
So satisfying
what type of chain tensioner its have
Steel City thanks for the vid. I've got the same Sherco with a clutch that is worthless until the bike is warmed up, then it works fine. Wonder if my plate gap is off or my slave cylinder just needs a rebuild. Thoughts?
Check the wear on the clutch plates and basket. I have seen severally worn plates or baskets with worn out fingers cause clutches to get hung up.
@@steelcitymechanical3902 Thank you sir!
051 Stihl Best 💪💪💪
Thanks for the tutorial. Going to try it out myself
It's any joking or serious?
It's so hard to see at the angle you have the camera..can't watch..thank you
Grandpa Tractors... Power full...has...ha
It's not possible to make small o-rings, like 4mm ect. 🤔
Thanks for posting this! I was having trouble with my H sometimes staying at max rpm, and adjusting the governor (your first step) fixed it!
is that okay to use in pressure cooker size number 10 inches?
I would like to information of Adhesive type for O-ring gaskets in VDO .
Hola la varilla del embrague que va en el centro lleva dos arandelas.Como se posicionan y en que sitio van colocadas? Gracias.
Great video. Thank you. Just rescued an H. And bro, I’ve got questions. Hahah. Thanks again.
No problem, I'll help you out if I can.
I was just useing my farmall h had no problem till I ran out of gas then I lost power after I got gas back into it so I cleaned the carb still made no difference till I put all new plugs then ran great till yesterday it runs at idle but if I take it off idle the egine races
I would double check the carb and make sure it is cleaned really well, the governor shaft may have come out of position and will have to be reset.
Check this pin that no one can see cas can view is from outer fucking space. Zoom in jackass.
Hi - great video. I have a 1953 Super W4 and I loosened the governor shaft from the carb at some point to clean. Now the governor disengages from inside the carb at times and it runs at unlimited RPMs. Can i direct message you or call you? Am in Canada as well. Cheers
Direct message me if you need some help.
te comiste como aprietas la tuerca central de la cadena!!!
hi, I live in USA washington state and was wondering if you know of any good mechanic for my sherco? thank you Joe
I do not, you might want to try Ryan Young products.
No HT sealant underneath the gasket and on the underside of the cylinder skirt?
Nope, there is no need if the machined surface is in good condition.
Zoom in paaa-lease.
great info several years since i did a gov, forgot a lot of the little tricks, cool hey be careful you might get some grease on your finger
Thanks for showing this! I have to make these adjustments on my m this spring. I am in minnesota. Hoping you monitor this then if i got a question!
I will be posting some more videos as I get this thing sorted out, ask away and I'll help you out if I can.
Great video! Thanks
