Reading 5 Star Predictions! ⭐️

Reading 5 star predictions! In this video I have chosen 3 books that have been on my tbr for a while that I think have the potential to be 5 star reads - as someone who is notoriously picky about what books I give a 5 star rating to, this video was a little bit stressful for me…. But I loved making it and it got me out of a reading slump, yay! Hope you’re doing well and thanks for watching! 00:...
A DNF, 5 Star Read, and Reading Slump | MAY WRAP UP
Переглядів 842 місяці тому
This May wrap up has a DNF and a 5 star read, what a rollercoaster! I am in the midst of a reading slump and animal crossing is to blame! That being said, whilst I may not have read as much as I would have liked to this month, I did read some very good books and even though I had a DNF, it was at no fault of the book itself - I’m just in a very fickle mood in terms of what I want to read right ...

Hey everyone! 🌻 In this May vlog, I dive into gardening for the first time, organise my kitchen, and tackle some serious writer's block. Don't worry, this channel will still primarily focus on books, with occasional lifestyle updates. If this isn't your t...

Loved your video!
@@Charlie-ez5zr thank you! ❤️
I like magnolia parks and daisy haites but I had to pack myself with all the toxicity
@@user-pk4gy9ic6c so much toxicity! Especially in magnolias books
I’ve been looking at the Elsie Silver books but thought one series didn’t sound very cowboy-esque but that the other one might be good… basically I’m trying to get something to tide me over until the next Rebel Blue book comes out 😂😂 Would be so interested to hear what you think of the Elsie Silver books as you really helped me out with the Rebel Blue recommendations! Thank you for another great video and hope you love your books! ❤️📚✨
I’ll hopefully get to one of them this month and let you know what I think! Really hope it fills the rebel blue ranch hole in my heart ❤️
I did like ‘In the Weeds’ but I’m now comparing to the Rebel Blue series and it’s not even coming close! It was ok but nothing special - I have the third one to read so am hoping it’ll get better! Hope you have a lovely reading month! ❤️📚✨
I think the third one was my fave so far!
Reading one star reviews of your faves is not for the weak. I love this! It's amazing how people can read the same book and take different things away from it. 💯 omg I died at "is that it?" 💀
a truly humbling experience
I love your videos; they're so relaxing and wholesome 😊 I've spent my month reading the Pretty Little Liars books and they're wildly entertaining! I'm actually about to start The Secret History and I have pretty high hopes as well :p
Thank you!! Pretty Little Liars is a show I never watched and I feel like I missed out on a cultural moment by not watching it 😂
It’s dangerous watching your videos as each time I come away with books to buy 😂😂 this time it’s The Adventures of Amina…! Thank you for another excellent video! ❤️🌈📚
ooh let me know if you enjoy, I can't wait to read it!
Pride and Prejudice... 1995. YES!
I’m also so excited for rewitched! Getting all my fall books together for cozy/spooky reading binges by the fireplace ❤
the dream!
Congrats on almost one year of your channel! 😍 I'm hearing SO much about the Rebel Blue Ranch series!! I'm a little scared to pick it up since I'm not realllyyyy sure I'll enjoy cowboy romance but everything I'm hearing is so GOOD that I won't even notice the cowboy aspect 😂 Also did you notice how all of Ali Hazelbooks are enemies to lovers? I recently realize it so I can't not stop thinking about it 🤣
It’s the first cowboy romance I’ve read, so I found it a good place to start (the cowboy aspect wasn’t that present, especially in the second one)! Haha, yes she definitely has a formula she likes to stick to
happy one year anniversary to your channel!!!! I need to get back into reading myself, this year I've only read comic books (which is fine!!), and this month I've started a short story collection :D but I definitely won't finish it in time for my june wrap up :/ also you have a lovely accent!!!
aw thank you! short stories are something I really want to read more of, if you have any recommendations! x
Great to hear your thoughts! I also read Penance this year and really enjoyed it too! My favourite book of the year so far is probably 10 minutes and 38 seconds in this strange world. It has great characters and a focus on female friendship. Also made me cry. I hope to get to Boy Parts soon 😃
Ooh I don’t think I’ve heard of that - will definitely check it out!
Oh noooooo 😭 I have an extreme high hopes for Not in Love so I'm scared now. I definitely agree the last couple of books have been... really different? I'll be reading it soon once I finish the book I'm currently reading. And if makes you feel better, if anyone ever talked to me about books in real life, I'd be soooo happy. You probably made her day too 💕. But I understand, I'm socially awkward sometimes so I'm always afraid of saying the wrong thing 😅
I was really looking forward to it too 😭 hopefully it's just me, and you still like it!
@@katharineisobelbailey Did you see her new announce book?? Ahh... it's a sports romance, and I'm definitely not a sports romance girly so 😭 I'm just wondering why she's branching out so much hahaha
omg no! tbh I quite like that she's trying new things but it's just never gonna be right for everyone
Love your choices and also well done on recommending a book - things like that terrify me! Also, you recommended Lyla Sage in your other video and I’ve read both now and completely agree that both are brilliant but ‘Swift and Saddled’ is even better than ‘Done and Dusted’! Thank you for the recommendation! ❤️🌈📚
Aw I’m so glad you enjoyed! ❤️
Your photography is just lovely here. I really appreciate it when book shoppers show the outdoors, and also SLOWLY pan the book collections so viewers can see what's on offer. I paused on that giant board with staff picks at 3:30. I love it when shops feature those. Congratulations on the blind book date win. I'm loving that for you, Katharine. And let me assure you of one thing. I believe there will come a time in your life when you will be able to buy as many books as you'd like. This could ALSO turn into a problem!!! (67-year-old reading 20 books in the Read-What-You-Own challenge. I won't buy any new books until I've read 20 books I have.) Excellent video.
Thank you for watching! 🥰 That time can't come soon enough haha!
Have you tried listening to audiobooks while playing animal crossing? That's what I've been doing while I play games 🥰 Also life's too short to not DNF! You can always come back to it when you're in the mood for the book 💕 Your point is pretty solid about Emily Henry; you're right that it's usually focus on the female's struggles. I'm glad to see that change in Funny Story! Heartstream sound crazy... I want to read it 😳 I hope your reading slump get better in June 💕
I haven't but that's such a good idea! My problem is I find it really hard to concentrate on audiobooks that I think I would end up losing track of what was going on if I was playing ac too - maybe an autobiography or something a bit more conversational would work though
Can totally relate to the glasses thing! The kitchen looks amazing, I can see the logic in every cupboard hahaha - so satisfying! Also so jealous of the weather you’re having, you look so summery, beautiful!
Thank you!! The weather is back to normal now, hopefully the sun has moved up to Scotland for you ❤️
I love tracking my reading like this! It was great to hear your stats. I also read Emily Wilde's EoF recently and enjoyed it a lot. Also I read Penance this year and enjoyed it too, but haven't read Boy Parts before. I loved Baby Reindeer so I think I need to get to that soon 😃
Even though they’re different vibes, I think if you liked penance you’ll like boy parts!
@@katharineisobelbailey Thank you! I'll probably read it in June 😃
Thank you for another great video! Also, I picked up the Rebel Blue series due to your recommendation and I’m nearly finished Done and Dusted, and am loving it! Can’t wait to pick up Swift and Saddled next! Thank you! ❤️🌈📚
Aw I’m so happy you’re enjoying it!! I loved swift and saddled even more, can’t wait to hear what you think! 🥰
Great city. The problem with watching other book tubers channels is that it only increases the tbr. Happy reading to you.
So true!
If you’re looking for more novels about cults, I really recommend Home by Cailean Stead
ooh I've just looked it up and immediately added to my tbr - thank you!! 🥰
Thanks for another awesome video👏👏
Thanks for watching!! 🥰
What an amazing service! This is so great! I’ve visited Mr B’s twice in my life and hope to go again another day - so wonderful there! Thank you for making us aware of this service - so helpful as I don’t live near to Bath! ❤️🌈📚
It really is, I hope you get some good recs from it! 🥰
I would LOVE to go book shopping in Edinburgh. What a dream! Thanks for sharing. 😎📚👍
It has so many amazing bookshops that I didn't even get to this day - thanks for watching!
I’m like five seconds into the video and SO beautiful! 🥰❤️😍🌈🌻📚
It’s the most gorgeous city!
The beginning sequence of this is so dreamy. Feels like a ghibli film ❤
Aw thank you! That’s the highest of compliments ❤️
Wait, its all old books
who'd have thunk it
i lovedd circe which makes me even more excited to read tsoa because everyone loves it even more !🥰the writing was so beautiful you're so right
I wish I could read tsoa for the first time again, I hope you love it! ❤️
If you want excellent viking fantasy, please read A.E. Rayne!
thank you for the rec, I'll make a note! ❤️
Circe for me was a solid 4 star read but not as strong as the song of Achilles
It's hard to be stronger than song of achilles
I'm happy I finally got you to read Circe. What a book!
loved it, love you! x
I used to write non-fictional stories of my time in Critical Care. I had such a passion for writing, I was always entertained. It was a dream to self-publish. Life happened, again, and I stopped writing. I thought I could get back into it but I have lost that skill. Maybe I just need to keep trying but I am just as happy watching videos like yours as I paint somewhat lifelike baby dolls instead. I would read your work and I would buy your book as a way of support. I keep getting this anxious feeling like creativity is dying, what with the current theme of directors producing remakes of old movies rather than bringing something new to the screen and such things, so its reassuring to see somebody so invested in original ideas like yourself. Keep going, and I look forward to seeing the end result no mater how long I must wait x
Thank you so much for this comment, it was so encouraging to read! As for you having lost that skill, I don't believe that! Even if you write as little as 5 minutes a day, you'll eventually get back into the swing of it I'm sure ❤️
So I’ve now bought the two Lyla Sage from this video 😂😂🫣🫣❤️🌈📚 thank you!
I hope you enjoy! I just bought swift and saddled paperback and am considering a reread already but my tbr is yelling at me haha x
Welcome to Booktube 😊
Thank you!! 😊
TW The Book of Doors has torture that caught a lot of readers off guard.
Oh wow, I did not know that, thanks for letting me know!
This was so good! I love that you chose "Never Let Me Go"-what a fantastic and upsetting book. I read it out loud to my wife early last year, and by the end we were both inconsolable. Cheers!
Thanks again for tagging me!! x
Nice job on this one, you have some great choices and associations with those books. And thanks for the mention also!
Thanks so much!! x
I loved that I hadn't heard of any of these except a Little Life. it was so refreshing to not see the same few books over and over! Eliza Clark sounds like someone I need to pick up ASAP. I started A Little Life but put it down and haven't picked it back up yet. I loved what I did read though.
Aw I'm so glad you heard of some new books from this! I honestly can't recommend Eliza Clark enough, both books were so incredible! x
I knew that Fragile Animals would be a bit of you!
Had me written all over it lol 😂
Thank you for these great book ideas! I love golden age crime but haven’t really read any more modern ones so Wife of the Gods sounds really interesting! ❤️📚
Thanks so much for watching! ❤️
Really love your channel and this video! Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️📚
Thank you so much for watching!! ❤️
😘🫱🏻 can’t wait for reading in the sun! Also the Hell Followed With Us book sounds like the perfect find!!
I know, I just really hope it lives up to the blurb!
yess emily henry if its anything like the last one it will be amazing happy place
Loved happy place so much!
Still thinking about Boy Parts. So glad that you picked it for book club this month!
May I ask why you liked Babel so much? Myself, I gave it only two stars, as I found the story to be so black and white with no nuances at all to make it ultimately uninteresting. Also, I found the entire system of magic to make no sense at all. As a linguist myself, I found her reasoning to be on very shaky ground, e.g. why you needed someone from the colonies to work the magic. In her reasoning for that, R.F. Kuang really showed that she doesn't know anything about European languages. This last thing may have been one of the main points why I disliked the book so much.
I think the thing I loved most about it was the world she built and the overall tone/vibe of the book - I love dark academia and found family trope and both are so prevalent in Babel. That being said, I can see why this book isn’t for everyone and I know someone who gave it 1 star eek 😂 When I rate something 5 stars I really am just rating it for ME, because I think something can be flawed but still be the perfect fit for someone - does that make sense? I guess it’s like people in a way haha. I can especially understand why you wouldn’t enjoy it if you’re a linguist because it can be so grating reading about something you’re so knowledgable about that you can pick out all the errors in logic. However, I’m not a linguist (I am terrible at learning other languages 😂) so it was easy for me to gloss over parts I didn’t fully understand and just accept them as fact in this world. Also, I think I just really like Kuang’s writing - I also loved Yellowface, which couldn’t be more different to Babel, but both books’ prose was just so engaging and unputtdownable for me. Have you read any of her other books? ☺️
@@katharineisobelbailey Thank you for your response, and sorry that it has taken so long for me to reply. Vive la difference! If there is something I like, it is that we all can have different opinions on e.g. books. We are all always entitled to our views, which of course are based on our personal tastes, and myself I find it extremely interesting to know why someone likes something that I do not. No, I haven't read anything else by her, and, to be honest, this book didn't encourage me to read another one. Myself, I unfortunatly wasn't that convinced by her prose, and here I compare her to fantasy authors like Guy Gavriel Kay or Robin Hobb. The prose absolutely wasn't bad, it was even better than many other popular authors, but it didn't wow me in any sense. However, if I were to take up another book of hers, what would you recommend?
Better late than never! Honestly, I really appreciate that now we can film a lot of things with our phones -- the quality is amazing, I didn't even know you were filming via your phone. I can't wait to see your other videos as it goes on -- I'm the same, I love romance so I think that's what all my vids would be but I'll probably try to showcase my life 😂
Aw that’s so good to hear! It is amazing how much we can do with them
I love Bath, ever since I went to University there - I am so glad to see that the used bookstall is still there in the market, I bought loads of great books there when I was on a tight budget. I love spending ages browsing a jumble of books, you never know what you will find! I also lived in Edinburgh for a while, and totally get what you mean, it definitely has the same vibe as Bath.
The wee market has so many cute things!
I was also SO obsessed with Wounded when I first read it. Honestly I just don't think I've ever read anything like it! Maybe a bit Of Mice and Men? Loved it, I'll definitely read it again at some point too.
Was so good! I do see of mice and men although I didn’t love that book when I read it in high school…
Hi, Katharine! I'm looking forward to hearing about all bookish things you want to share with us over the upcoming year. From an oldie content creator to a (kinda) newbie, welcome aboard. We're so glad to have you here. Thanks for doing the tag so it's easier to find you say and hello!
