I found the files in internet where during episode 26 the song was playing, useless to say i was crying. I felt extreamely bad since Chris started to cry too, it was like he was intended to represent us during that sad moment where even Eggman, losing control of E-99, realized that he was gone way too far and that it was time to lose because it was right to. Say what you want on Chris, but i can't stop liking him, he's just a kid with clearly abandonment issues who realized that his alien friend died because he trusted Eggman. Episode 26 was the first truly dark Sonic episode and even Eggman saying "well this is a TV show we have to continue" was not enough to relieve the spectators. Perfect theme for this moment ❤

After seeing this in 2025 the Japanese opening theme of Sonic X really fits well

Season 1 of Sonic X may have been the weakest overall BUT it definitely had the best finale out of all 3 seasons in my opinion, especially the Japanese version. Up until this finale, Sonic had for the most part, minor struggles against villains that were typically instantly solved with the power ring (or 2 chaos emeralds that he was able steal from Eggman in the assault on his base). The conflicts with Eggman typically were quite repetitive in that they followed a pattern of: 1. Eggman picked a new robot 2. Eggman’s robot attacked whatever city Sonic’s friends happened to be in which caused them to drop whatever they were doing and fight. 3. Tails, Amy, and occasionally Knuckles would try their best to fight the robot but would ultimately be at the robot’s mercy. 4. Sonic would show up just in the nick of time and Tails would give Sonic a power ring which would allow Sonic to deliver the final blow against the robot. In other words, the main fault of season 1 was that it became extremely predictable and somewhat stale after a certain point. HOWEVER, then the finale happens and things are completely different. Knuckles’s naivety has led to Chris being captured, Eggman gaining 6 of the 7 of chaos emeralds, and Sonic rushes off to fight what is definitely going to be his hardest fight yet. Eggman has created his most powerful machine yet, E-99: the Egg Emperor. This machine not only has a powerful armament that no one can scratch but also has the energy of 6 chaos emeralds, which makes Sonic’s speed completely irrelevant. Sonic has absolutely zero advantage against Eggman here. Eggman’s robot is faster, stronger, and more durable and Sonic gets the absolute worst beatdown of his life. However, Sonic still keeps getting back up because he wants to save his friend, Chris. Tails, Amy, Chris and Cream can only watch as their hero and friend gets pummeled repeatedly and probably realize that there’s nothing they can do to help the situation. It really is hard to watch as the show’s symbol of hope is completely wasted. Sonic is eventually beaten and dropped into the ocean by Eggman. All hope is lost until a chain of events caused by Chris, Knuckles, and Rouge allows Sonic to gain all 7 emeralds and go super for the first time in the show’s history. Now, the Egg Emperor is completely helpless and Sonic instantly overpowers it and chaos control happens. This is everything the season has built up to. Sonic and his friend might finally see their home again. We as the viewer also have no idea what this will mean for Earth. Eggman is shown finding a stone tablet that fans of the games know will lead him to find Chaos, which sets up the next season. These feelings of awe, suspense, and sadness are reflected best in the Japanese version due to the amazing score. As Sonic is beaten up, we can feel the weight of how hopeless the situation is for him as he chooses to keep getting in a fight he knows he can’t win. When Sonic loses consciousness, we can feel the pain of Chris as he realizes that he has potentially caused the death of his best friend and has a breakdown. Then, when Sonic transforms, we can feel how Sonic has transcended to a level beyond comprehension and how awe-inspiring the chaos control must be to witness by the characters. It’s such a great finale to an otherwise average season.

A shame this was replace don the BluRay release. Well I still have the file I downloaded back in 03

Huh weird i was watching the uncenaored japanese version of sonic x on internet archieve but it didn’t play this music in the part where super sonic appears in episode 26. Instead it played an instrumental version of shining road

Fun fact: Merlina's character isn't under villain or hero on her character page on the Sega website which indicates she isn't a villain but neither a hero and allows fans to decide

It sucks that this song was cut from the Japanese release of Sonic x due to copyright reasons. Apprantley it will be cut from the blu ray release at the end of the year as well.

Sonic from SEGA saved the Nintendo charecters from pretty much death

I love this scene for multiple reasons. One big reason is that it’s the perfect reveal for how long people have been waiting to see him in Smash. Another reason is that this scene is absolutely in character for Sonic.
