The view from my bicycle handlebar.
There is a high level of tension between motor vehicle drivers and people on bicycles often fueled by some pretty poor media reporting and people not always understanding other road users needs.
As someone who has ridden bikes since the age of 10 and driven cars, vans and trucks since 18 I can appreciate both sides of this story but when on a bike I feel way more vulnerable than when behind the wheel of a vehicle.
Instead of confronting impatient or aggressive drivers about their driving I submit videos to West and North Yorkshire Police who take further action against drivers for close passing cyclists, this usually takes the form of Educational Courses or points and fine.
Share the road and take care.
I use Chilli Tech Bullet Cams, they are great value and have between 3 and 5 hours record time per charge.

To be fair I agree with the cyclist for once. That could have been a far worse outcome but sadly these days there are too many clips being uploaded to social media where the cyclist is in no danger whatsoever but they see fit to report motorists at any opportunity. When overtaking a cyclist, motorists need to be 1.5 metres away at speeds up to 30mph and 2 metres away at speeds above that, but how does anyone know if they are passing at the correct distance or not without a tape measure ? Common sense should prevail but a few drivers are getting points and fines these days because some cyclists are clearly on a power trip and seem to think they are the police. Im totally against dangerous driving and the highway code is there to protect ALL road users but too many cyclists are taking advantage of the rules for narcissistic reasons, believing they are untouchable. The “I’m recording this, it’s going on UA-cam mate” attitude when confronted by an angry driver is the reason so many cyclists are hated. I used to cycle into a city in heavy traffic years ago but it never bothered me how close drivers were. Cars need to get past. You cant expect to hold everyone up. Unfortunately there will always be serious accidents, although numbers have declined slightly since the 1980s.

To all of you that reckon this is no big deal; get yourself out there on a bike for a few hours and experience getting a close pass like this for yourselves. You'll soon change your tune about what looks safe and what is ACTUALLY safe.
Yet if the van was in slow moving traffic the cyclist wouldn't even think twice about cycling up the inside in a gap that wide!!!! Maybe time to number plate cycles and report them for passing traffic to close, riding through red lights, not stopping at junctions, not having lights on in the dark, weaving around with out a glance as to what is behind them, I am sure you won't mind having insurance either!!! I ride a motor bike and a push bike too so I doo see what occurs on the roads, just man up and be more vigilant while cycling and stop trying to be a hero filming your wobbly rides, sooner or later it will get you nicked or punched out!!!
"Just man up, dude!" Perhaps you could mention that to the families of all those Killed or Seriously Injured each year on our roads. "Hey dude, they should have just manned up!" "Bikers you have heard the man! Brace yourselves for the impact!"
@@andrewatherton316 First up bud they are not bikers but cyclists, who want four miles distance when you pass them but like mentioned are happy to squeeze through a 2foot gap when it suits them, or cycle through a red light rather than stop. And before your dummy lodges in the back of your throat, I am a biker, who has ridden year round for over 46yrs. Yes I have had cars pull out in front or try to close a gap but like the bulk of real bikers we deal with it and don't post video clips winging about it.. Had an off last year due to 3 cyclists who turned across my path at a red light reason given they were trying to catch up another group!!!! Knobs on both sides just some have no balls to go with it...
I know you're in Yorkshire but haven't you heard they have tyres which have air pumped in them for a quieter ride than the metal rims you're riding on!

@@thisisnumber0 Don't ride much do you? Bikes have to avoid all sorts of things that motorists won't even notice, much less bother to avoid. By passing so close there is no room for a cyclist to take avoiding action for any kind of hazard. Secondly, with wind noise in your ears, combined with traffic noise, it's not always possible to tell when a vehicle is about to pass you as it's nearly impossible to tell just how far behind you a vehicle is.
