(EAS #74) Alert Works EAR-10 RWT
I wanted to get a video of the EAR-10 by itself so I left it on the floor with the rest of the collection turned off. Turned out pretty good! This one clips a lot for some reason but the quality doesn't need to be perfect for this kind of broadcast so it's fine.

Forget the backlog and me having a much larger radio collection now, IWX just dropped a TOR out of NOWHERE!!! It's not even windy or thundering. Not included is the rest of the details of the warning, me setting off my bench grinder siren, and the 2001 siren ambience before being dragged to the basement. My phone ran out of memory. My dad wouldn’t take me into Niles today so I was stuck at home to hear the distant 508 again. Despite the breeze it was actually a lot louder than before and I caught the wind down this time. There might've actually been a second siren at a lower pitch but I couldn't tell if it was just an echo or not. This was during the summer of 2023 and I was in the middle of my summer P.E. course for my freshman year of high school. During a break as I was sitting on one of the stairwells with some other students I caught the staff running the wrestling mat carriage. I was pleasantly surprised to hear a Vibratone honking in 30 BPM as a movement alarm and snagged this quick video with my phone for your vi...

How’d you make this? Its amazing!
@FXplasmaYT Had a general idea of what I was going for but mostly just snapped parts together until it worked
@ cool!
Can you make a video on how to make the panel please? I would really like to know how so I can have a panel.
@@WhelenWPS3000 This particular panel was based almost directly on a project from Snap Circuits Light either called "Stuck On Light" or "Stuck On Fan" or something similar. It uses transistors to create a latching circuit that stays on when two points are shorted and resets when power is cut
@@WhelenWPS3000 I already have a video ready about the bigger panel too if you would rather make that instead, I just need time time
Told ya! 😛 Glad you got some documentation of it. When I was there I didn’t exactly have an easy way of taking a picture. Seeing it really brings back some memories of the old system.
@@WarningSirensOfMichiana I'm glad you were right! I'm very happy to be able to have seen this, the teachers who helped me were very kind.
This is probably my favorite system test video
I love the channel! I I am trying to make my own snap circuits fire alarm system and yours is so cool and I am wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to build it.
@@ajb98YT A lot of people are asking about this, I have a video ready to post eventually about it. To summarize I use the SCR component to create a latching circuit and a disable-able oscillator circuit running through a relay with capacitors to make the nac. I'm using a snap circuits power supply with short circuit protection so I just short it with a button to momentarily cut power and reset it.
When will you post?
Ya
I also don't live to far from Granger IN
Hey funny thing I have a Midland severe storm alarm and was in the same storm except where I was it held very bad and I heard that exact same message at the same time

Hi, are you planning to record the systems in action?
Honestly, that set up is pretty creative.
@@Tigers9596 Thanks! I'm definitely going to do more with this in the future
W
Snap circuits?
How the heck did you make an entire snap circuits fire system?
@@otyplumbingofficial All it really is is a latching circuit with a couple of components and a smaller circuit wired in parallel
Could you make a tutorial on how to make a fire alarm panel like that my son would love that
@@FluidSack I already have a video recorded about how it works and why it's built the way it is, but I haven't posted it yet. Keep in mind it takes parts from several kits too
Ok thank you
I am getting my son the snap circuits extreme hopefully that's enough
@@FluidSack That's great! He should be able to make something similar, but probably a bit smaller. In short I used the SCR to make a latching circuit and the relay is the nac (with a separate set of batteries on the switching side). I used the "0.5-20hz oscillator" project to make it coded by feeding its output through the relay's coil with some capacitors across it to lengthen the pulse. The alarm LED and piezo are wired in parallel with the oscillator and I just turn off the circuit briefly to reset it. Hope this helps!
Just so you know he also has a lot of other parts such as well I kind of forgot but he does have two button switches one switch and some capacitors from what I remember

Update on the mini 15/20 siren: after printing the stator I realized it needs redesigning and some work done in general, so it will probably be a long while before I get it up and running
awsome nice to see you have a new alarm do you still have the commander and MT?
@@AnArcticBlueFox Indeed I do! Glad to hear someone’s keeping track lol. They’re not being used at the moment but I think I might have more videos of them if you want to see them
Also crap I forgot to post the unboxing video before I posted a video of the alarm itself 😅
random question since I see you were at Mary Frank, what do they have for fire alarms these days? I went to Northpoint which had a 4020 with 9219s but its been probably 2 decades since I've set foot in MF (used to go there for cub scout meetings). They used to have a Simplex 2001 with 9806 horns on surface mount 2903 light plates. Prairie Vista had a 4002 also with 9806 horns, but on 4903-9101 strobe plates. PV's old system is long gone so I'm sure MF's is too.
@@WarningSirensOfMichiana MF had a 2001 with 2903s??? In my time it was smartsync truealerts on retrofit plates and probably a 4010. I think it’s probably still up but it might be ES’ed by now
@@MichanaAlerting yep! Sadly never got to hear it go off though. I would imagine the current system was installed around 2009, as that's when the first round of replacements took place in some of the older PHM elementary schools. PV's system was replaced around that time, as well as Elm Road's. Elm Road had an old ADT Unimode with old ADT branded Faraday horn/strobes, and ADT "t bar" pulls.
@@WarningSirensOfMichiana Wow, I really missed out on PHM's fire alarm golden age lol. Were any of them set to anything besides continuous?
noice
This is happening because, applying power on any 2 devices will power it at the same time witch causes it to sync
@@alrmfire1 Mostly, both devices are flashing when I disconnect the power momentarily. Normally that's how smart sync works but apparently it works for my commander too
nice 2001
A little bland, but it does the job!

@@JamesSpeed65 R3s just have 3 drivers but still 4 throats. I think it's weird too, but I guess it'd be much more expensive to make 3 other unique designs

what is a Wrestling Mat Carriage
@@tronicsterspeaker9946 It's the thing that holds the wrestling mats when they're not in use. They're rolled up and put in this long cradle/sack and a winch lifts them off of the ground for storage
@@MichanaAlerting oh
how do you know when there is an alert coming?
@@tronicsterspeaker9946 It's complicated. Required weekly tests are every Wednesday between 11 AM and noon, but usually around 11:30 so I just sit and wait with a camera. In this case I just hit record, left for school, and it had enough memory to catch the test. For actual alerts there's a website online called "IEMBot Monitor" that can make a sound a few seconds before the alert, but it's kinda inconsistent for IWX. I usually just sit in my room with my camera ready and the radios broadcasting, and I quickly hit record whenever I hear SAME headers.
oh it must be tiring to do that but keep up the good work
@@tronicsterspeaker9946 Thanks!
WHAT!?!?!?!
ikr?
you should try arduino based panels like the one i built
I would but I have no coding experience at all outside of block coding. I tried to make something in Tinkercad's simulator based off of 4050-80's design, but it didn't end up working out.
First time watching you!!!

As a owner of a official UL listed panel, i am very impressed by this homemade panel.

Since when did you own a UL listed panel 💀
how did you make it sound so loud? i have the speaker and i use U23 (strobe ic) but its not very loud can you tell how you made it loud?
Some of the newer speakers are just louder, I don't know why. Also I think I actually killed my amplifier module (U4) in doing this because I cranked the volume too high
@@MichanaAlerting i could send you a video showing you how loud mine is. maybe that might work?
@@AnArcticBlueFox sorry, I don't feel very comfortable giving out any of my contact information right now. It isn't REALLY that loud, I didn't need hearing protection at all
@@MichanaAlerting ok i respect your privacy 👍
@@AnArcticBlueFox Thanks for understanding!
I completely understand. We all run into the maximum amount of things we can do to something and every addon makes it boring and boring, But. These problems can be fixed by creating a new system, and you get some good views from system tests so I'd make a new system with newer hardware and easier ways to connect devices. And even maybe networking to make it activate. (like remote connection and warnings) You can also make it have a water function to detect water somewhere. And even put devices everywhere lol
That's okay, this was actually recorded a long time ago and I'm ready to come back soon. Just need to get my lazy butt off of UA-cam and actually try to record a clean take lol
Will the panel ever have battery backup?
It already does, that's what the batteries are there for
That's why the panel stayed on when I unplugged it's power supply
This is actually a genius system
Thanks! It's on my bucket list to someday make a video on how the panel works, but I have so many other videos to post first that it's a pretty long shot
can we hear it sound in code 3?
Unfortunately I can't. My panel can't do code 3, this bell has been disassembled because this video was filmed several years ago, and if I ever do make a video coding it by hand it might be a while. Sorry!
This is really cool! I'm assuming all Signals were 2902-9739s from the start and pretty sure the 4903-9148s and 4906-9151s were addons

The 4 Wire TrueAlerts are some of my favorite TrueAlerts.
@@aidanthetoiletelevatorfire7554 I can't confirm the candela on the TrueAlerts but the 4903s have a "30 CD" sticker in the strobe
@@MichanaAlerting You could always look in the direction where the strobe flashes whether it says '15CD', '75CD' or '110CD'. The candela sticker is located on the left corner of the strobe reflector so underneath. If it's a multi candela you could always look on the side whether it says '15', '30', '75', or '110'. @@aidanthetoiletelevatorfire7554 I think they're all on 15CD. Every one I've checked has said that and none of them in the entire system are particularly bright.

That was a truck engine, not another Whelen.
You might be right, it's kind of hard to tell. Someone was running some sort of engine in the background and the mic was set up near a running car, so it might've just been the noise cancelling dying down when it heard the other sound. There weren't any trucks THAT close when it started, and I'm pretty sure the system's coverage is good enough that you can hear one siren from another. I may be wrong and this may have all just been a coincidence, but I like to think it was a distant siren because the video's already been edited and it makes the experience feel a little bit more unique
