Physics in this game can be very wonky at times. No clue how that happened, I had lost trailers for less spinning in the past. My only guess is that the trailer swung along for the spinning due to the rain, sadly I was in the interior view so it's just a guess. As for the truck switching. In the beginning I was looking for a decent performing truck and experimenting between various models. Later on when I had the Kinetic 2T2, it's basically a faster repair. For a normal repair you would have to find a workshop, drive there, depending on the workshop position the truck on a ramp and then drive down from said ramp and continue your route. Compared to buying a new one the minimal money loss makes it a much faster method to repair the truck.

@@padmitrii Hard Truck 2, or King of the Road as it was named where I am from, was also a great game with much faster pacing. It helps that the brakes in that game actually work like you would think and you get some faster cars too compared to the trucks.

That description of playing this game on the floor brought back memories :). I did something similar. We had the family computer hooked up to our CRT TV, where I played it for hours after school. After we upgraded that the CRT + the old computer were handed down to me. I played on those until around 2010. To this day Pedal to the Metal has in my opinion got the most satisfying single player experience from SCS software. The fact that you can actually interact with your drivers in the open world and an actual progression system (which is pretty buggy but still works as intended if you don't abuse it) make it good.

It's even worse if you activate timed deliveries. If you do, it can happen that your drivers deliver damaged cargo too late. In that case you won't get any money (because the cargo is too late) and you even have to pay for any damages, leading to a net loss. While it doesn't happen too often, it's still pretty annoying.

I still remember that plane too. If I am not mistaken, it can appear on the long highway between Albequerque and Memphis. There are also some other environmental events like police checking a stopped and modified truck or securing a tipped over trailer. Always loved how this game had these features long before they were introduced in the current generation of trucking simulators.

@@feuerdrachen6573 I can't remember if it was UFOs or black spy planes that flew overhead in the Nevada desert. The secret dirt road you could take from Mexico to the US without stopping at the border was also a nice feature. The AI radio, the weather forecast and the next-job planning features were not only ahead of their time but also absent from current gen. Thanks for the memories, I still have the ISO so I'll probably install it in the near future.

@@feuerdrachen6573 The style of gameplay and progression in PttM was also seen in German Truck Simulator and it's sister game UK Truck Simulator, as these also feature a reputation mechanic as well as an employee and company owner mode, also a cargo planner and delivery deadlines. Another neat thing were the E mails, like companies offering you better employment, limited time deliveries or your friend updating you on his own career, as a sort of tutorial and fun filler. In between PttM and ETS2/ATS, the physics for whatever reason got a little wonky, with trucks sliding all over and collisions just not working right. But Convoy did introduce special missions which range from delivering special cargo to driving a bus or a fire truck or parking a truck in difficult locations, things which were revisited in Extreme Trucker and Scania Truck Simulator, in a way. But Haulin' and ALH got a bit too labourious, bland and lacked these special touches I'd also say this for ATS and ETS2.

@@TheSultan1470 Thanks for the explanation. I haven't tried German Truck Sim and UK Truck Sim yet, but they do sound very promising. The special missions in Convoy and both Extreme Trucker games were fun, but in my opinion offered less replayability compared to a more open approach to a single player game like we had in PttM. Still, the level based structure of the Extreme Trucker games does make them interesting for speedrunning purposes. Also the physics were a bit on the slippery side in PttM as well. It's very noticeable when you try to stop at a truck dealership or a gas station. Funnily enough slamming your truck into one of the gas pumps makes it stop almost immediately with very little damage done to the truck. But I don't remember if I already used that strategy in this run or not. As for the current generation of ATS and ETS 2, the driving improved greatly and is combined with the bigger worlds enjoyable on its own. Sadly the single player aspects didn't improve much from Haulin' which was already pretty bland to begin with. There just isn't much to do once you get your own truck after 2-4 short deliveries on a loan. Once that one is paid off and you have gotten some AI drivers, it's just a very shallow sandbox. Let's just hope that SCS will eventually try to improve it, as they definitely know how to make it better.
