great video guys! love it!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode
Route Planning using Basecamp and Garmin XT. I place waypoints at every intersection and if selecting a gravel section, maybe one in the middle of the section. My avoidance and speed settings are the same on Basecamp and on my XT; both use the same map. Then when I transfer to the XT there is no difference when the XT calculates the route. I also set the proximity to 50m so that if my point is not exactly on the road or I am a few metres away it will accept the point as being passed and not try to route me back because I missed the mark. Routes tell me how far I will be riding that day so comparing that to the range shown by the bike, I can accurately decide where to refuel - no unnecessary stops or fear of running out. I use tracks where there is no road marked on Garming Streetmaps but that is not often. If you are forced to deviate you are not assisted to return to the track. If you change your mind and add or remove a section of the ride you can't change the route on the road.
Leka story & another great episode. I've ridden the Cederberg area twice already with my 990 and each time the preceding rain messed up the roads to Wupperthal & Eselbank, causing us to change our plans. I'm moving from Gauteng to the WC early next year and then this elusive area will be more within reach when conditions are favorable.
A really great series - outstanding videography- thanks for sharing - really enjoy your work.
Having done medical support for adventure bike tours for over a decade now in SA & Botswana for most big adventure bike brands, these unfortunate incidents can really put a damper on the day for riding buddies and event organisers. Whether on my own as sweep paramedic on a bike, or with a medical team and dedicated ambulance bringing up the rear, it's a logistic headache filled with moral dilemmas to get the injured rider to the next level of care whilst trying to keep the tour/ride on track for the other riders and to maintain the morale of the remaining riders. I enjoy these Footpeg Diaries series.
Amazing!! Well done
I think that is Pakhuis pass. Botterkloof is further along, closer to Calvinia.
Correct. The Botterkloof Pass is on the North/South R364 gravel road between the R27 going down to Clanwilliam. It's a lovely road with beautiful scenery.
Thanks guys. Been waiting so long.
Wow what an adventure, Love the angles of the camera.Im always the driver and there is no time to stare at the beautiful Scenery, I need to concentrate on the road.Im Just glad you guys enjoyed the Day and NO Motorbike was a write off coz the Cederberg road can be tricky for a Motorbike. Thanks for Visiting Eselbank We Appreciate everything you guys have done.If in the Area again and we are at home,Please come in and say Hi. MAY YOU GUYS BE BLESSED IN ABUNDANCE. SEASON GREETING FROM THE COMMUNITY OF ESELBANK.
Nice afsluiting vir 'n crapperige dag by my kant.
Awesome coverage,thks.

Howzit from the UK. You have to stop making me home sick. Looks like a lekker time was had by all even the Scot but if he live there he must be a south african now. Thanks for the kind words Martin!
Awesome show. Lyk so lekker. Well done almal. 👏🏻
Baie dankie Franco!
Everyone gets the engine braking wrong for the AT. Look at the manual, mine on page 146: "Level 1 has the strongest engine braking effect. Level 3 has the weakest engine braking effect." As you said, the higher the blue line, the more interference from the computer. Therefore 1 is normal engine braking (no interferance) , in 3 the computer will allow a bit more throttle in order to reduce normal engine braking. But I (and many on the internet forums) have found it makes no difference at all! I also set my Traction Control to the Favourites button (*), so by pressing it I can reduce the traction from 7 to 1 and cycle back to 7 again depending on the road surface conditions on the fly
Scary einde!
First of all I wish the injured a speedy recover Secondly: This is adv riding and calculated risk we all are willing to take Third though: I have been on several organized adventure rides and I was always invited as the medic and sweep. If you want to have organized tours and big groups like these you should seriously consider hauling a medic along in the support vehicle. A little price to pay for a bit of peace of mind. Anyhow, just my take. Have a good one!!
Budget is a factor when planning these events. Unfortunately for the participants and organisers, it adds to their stress with no medic. As enduro & adventure riding paramedic at events for over 14 years all over SA & Botswana, I have noticed some events have started skipping medics altogether, going for cheaper options (BLS instead of ALS) etc.
When you said "Prince Charming", I thought you said my "Brits Chommie"! LOL
What a disappointment that Honda, Leatt and Insta 360 supports this type of irresponsible riding. If breaking the law, fracturing limbs, concussion and wrecking your bike is what is consider as adventure riding then we are out!!! Today I am sad to be a Honda owner😢. Really guys 140km on gravel!!! Your giving adventure riders even newbies like me a BAD name.😢
140 km on gravel? I did a 350 km ride in and around Tankwa on gravel 4 months ago just after the torrential rains. 11 Water crossings and numerous mud patches. I do not think Handa Leatt 360 etc support this, not sure what you mean all sport has its injuries, Yes I am also surpised that 1 ride had so many falls. Why giving a bad name? I do think maybe the riders were outside they experience but then again I had done 2 dirt rides before my Karoo trip. The riding from what I see was not irresponsible at all and the speeds they did was nothing like I have seen guys doing 140km/h on dirt now that is ludicrous to say the least.
As a paramedic for tours like this for over 14 years in SA & Botswana, we have to drop our idealism when it comes to activities like these that have significant intrinsic risk. It's a bonus if all riders who start make it to the end. The intention of this tour was to include supporters, not only a group of even-skilled riders. Some guys do foolish things, some have bad luck, but I would not call this tour irresponsible. Btw, 140km/h on gravel is slow. Nobody boasted about that speed. I've seen guys post speedo readings online of >200km/h on gravel. With so many variables, in most events I have attended to as medic, most events have some unlucky fella whose trip ended prematurely. It's part of the game.
😢My droom bike
Usual thrills n spills guys, some great footage so far! Hope the guys and their bikes heal quickly, some of that gravel would have made me edgy at times but it's about holding your nerve and riding through it, I think when my spinxter starts twitching it's more about not wanting to damage the bike, I'm gunna mend the bikes gunna cost me 😂😂😂 Fannie can't believe you ran him over after being so nice and offering advice 😂😂😂 But seriously you guys are the sort of riders that we call family watch out for each other and be safe, See you for the next episode 1👍👍
Amazing! Got this as facebook ad in any Africa Twin group and immediately jumped in here which was a great idea. A stunning video with impressing quality. Just subscribed and will check older and further videos of this chan. Thank you very much for this great series. Really cool!

Well done. Speedy recovery to the 2 mates. Its one of the best spots for adventure riding. Love the Tankwa.
Ek kry trane in my oe waar ek hier in bahrain sit en my ou katbakkies pas sien 😢
When I saw the title I thought the blood part was figurative, maar my jissie, daar was a paar casualties. Ek hoop almal is aan die mend. Lekker video. Thanks.
Wat 'n episode!! Well done manne. Groete Henco
Great episode. Dankie.
RIP Bob
Sterkte
Just highlights the importance of riding with a few mates.Wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
10 uit 10 episode. Jammer oor daai manne wat geval het. Hulle het dit gevat doos champions.
Ah.
The N12 is a kak road.
What an epic episode! Pity about the two gents that got hurt and trust that they are recovering well. Video quality on the new cameras looks fantastic.
Thanks Brett!! The cameras took the production to a completely new level.
Lekker!!!! Maak mens sommer lus vir pad vat!!!
Dit is n proper avontuur! :D
