I like your mount, good looking mount. I use stair rail to hold my mounts. They hold them off the wall pretty good. Pls they are cheap and come in rustic dark color.

What do you use to stop freezing traps another PA trapper asking
Waxed dirt is probably your best bet. We have used peat moss in the past too.
