01 Harley Road King DIY Gabriel Air Shocks
Переглядів 15 тис.7 років тому
This is my 2001 Harley Davidson Road King retired police bike. I had to replace the rear swing arm due to the dreaded crack. While i was there i built a custom diy air ride system. Check it out if you have any questions about what i used and or how i did anything leave a comment. Great build, how did you delete the rear stock brake lite set and get that sleek smooth look? I want to do that to my 07 king. Thanks
Its a rear fender and skirt off an 08 street glide
Dose is bolt right on ? Or did you have to do some mods ?
I have a 2007 road king looking to do that fender and bag setup. Is it straight bolt up or does it take any modification?
Yes the street glide road glide and road king are all the same. All the flh body parts can be swapped among similar year flh bikes. The streetglide body will fit all the flh bike through 08. Same thing for 09 on but the rear fenders wont fit because they changed the width of the rear frame and fender. The bags are a diff story. These bags are off a 14 flh. With a little bit of modifications the newer bags can be made to work.
Bad ass bike bro 😎 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you, its for sale... lol
What kind of windshield is that?
The windshield is a stock harely police windshield with a custom rebuilt harly windshield stereo installed
@@adamwrong7791 great work
How can I contact you about the air suspension? I have a build for my channel.
Sorry man i just saw this. demrosecustomcreations@gmail.com
@@adamwrong7791 I sold mine now. lol I appreciate it. Might get another one. Thanks a lot for the email!
That thing is Sick!!
That's a nice bike you have sir. I have a 07 electra glide I would love to put the street glide rear fender on it. My question is do you think that it will work?
Thank you and yes. The flu harleys had the same fram so you can take similar year other flh body parts and swap them.
Dude, the butane air tank is perfect. Way better then other options I've seen. Thanks for sharing
Any update for riding with ur shocks? I also have a 2001 roadking with the mm and trying to find all information to swap out to carb
I have zero issues with my shocks. I've blown an air line once but that was a routing rubbing issue. As far as the carb swap whatcha need to know?
Here is a link to a forum that give a list of everything you should need to do the swap. www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-models/948470-marelli-to-carb-conversion.html
Adam Wrong I hear to many things on the carb some say use cv carb or use mukuni carb that the mukuni is a better carb
Also I didnt use the screaming eagle ignition module. I went with a dynatec so I have the options to change the ignition setting when dyno tuning. Heres a link to the one I used Dynatek 2000TC Ignition System TC88-2P www.amazon.com/dp/B005G54A3W/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_i_oO-wEb9MAHWHJ
What rear fender are you using
It's a blank street glide fender from an 08 I got it from a company I'll have to look to find the number again though
What compressor are you running with a tank system.
I have switched compressors as the compressor in this video was not enough to pick the bike up in conjunction with my tank. This is what I'm running now and it's working beautifully. Viair 27520 Compressor Kit www.amazon.com/dp/B001EJU1BY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ez4pDbBBFCJ5C You can check out my other video and see it
@@adamwrong7791 Could you possibly send a parts list of what you used. I love the setup.
Youd have to be more specific I did a lot. I have listed everything I needed for people who asked for help doing this over the past couple years here. So if you look through the comments you'll likely find all the parts I used to do everything up untill this point. I will however note I did away with the secondary tank made from the butane cylinder, left just the 1/4 gallon tank next to the battery, and upgraded my pump to the one I listed for your original question. On my original setup I thought having more reserve was better but what I found was the shocks would use enough air to lift the bike but not enough to trigger the pump to recoup the spent air. That resulted in the system not having enough air to resupply the shocks next time I pushed the up button. By removing the tank and using a 120-150 psi pressure switch I made it so that the tank has 150 psi when I hit the up the shock draw enough air to drop the tank down below 120 psi causing the compressor to kick on. This makes it so that every time I lift the bike the compressor kicks on and replenishes the system so the next time i drop the bike and go to lift it again it's ready to go with 150 psi. This has worked out much better for me and having the system run at the higher psi setting has made it so I can lift the bike while riding even two up wheres it would lower when I'd try to hit the up button with the original setup. Also be mindful of where you run you lines as if they rub through you will get a leak and not be able to lift the bike. Another thing I realized the other day and am currently in the process of correcting is pump failure. If for any reason the pump fails you likely wont know it untill you need it and by then it's too late. This happen to my buddy and he had to ride home on an empty air ride which is not fun and bad for the shocks. To remedy this I bought and will be installing these in one of the open ports in my air block. www.amazon.com/dp/B07G37D25L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_23fqDb7XZQPY6 This will leave me with the option to take the bike to an air pump and fill the air ride to get me home.
Search great ideas can you please send me more information on the butane tank and how you did it and how you routed your lines to make that work what an awesome idea

How did you do quick valve with timer.
The valve is a third valve that's Tee'd into the system as close to the shocks as possible. When the valve is actuated it opens releasing the air from the shocks to atmosphere.
If you look in the video you'll see the air valve on the fender right behind the battery
Understood that part. The electrical timer with button switch for .5 second for 5 seconds.
Trying to do the same set up on my king. Looking for parts.

part numbers for the shocks ? Was this a following project or your idea ? If so either way links or part #'s. My 04 classic air shocks are shot.
Rob Cox my idea and i already posted links to the shocks
whats the part number of this shocks

Can you tell more about swingarm swap? What parts exactly need to be replaced (bearings, pivots, may be caliper). What kind of bushing kit needed to make swap. It will be a great help for me and many others.
666SeeR999 id have to look it all up as far as the bushings and part numbers. I used a rear wheel, brake caliper, and swingarm from an 03 flh. The swing arm bolt and the trans case is smaller on the older flh. You can either have the case bored out to fit the newer style bolt or you can do what I did and get brass bushings from grainer that will fit the new swingarm bushings and allow you to use the old smaller bolt. I did this and it works perfect. I found all the info in an article ill look and see if i can find the forum that had all the numbers.
Ok so for those of you asking how I did my swing arm swap without buying a kit heres the info on what i did as well as a link to the forum I found it on. These fittings will allow you to go from the shock fitting to a 1/4 npt. I did that and then went to barb fittings and used rubber air line to allow air to move fast for my quick dump
And heres a link to the shocks i used on my bike. I prefer them to the monroes. The monroes caused my rear tire to rub when fully compressed or not up high enough when i hit a bump. No good if i blow a line can ride the bike. The gabriels are about an inch longer when fully compressed so no rubbing and if i lose all air pressure for some reason i can still ride it home allbit it uncomfortable lol www.amazon.com/dp/B001AMEEPO?tag=viglink20376-20

What fitting did you use on the butane tank? Don't they have a schrader valve in them? I love the idea and cost of using them!
Mike Diamond I removed the valve from the tank, drilled it, and tapped it for a 1/4 20 npt push to connect fitting
I guess I am confused. I see the one tank on the right and a second tank under the opposite side side cover. What is this purpose of the second tank?
Jeffrey Ford i have a 1/4 gallon air tank under the side cover, and a converted butane tank connected to the system to give me more air storage. Its like having a half gallon tank only its split into two tanks. I did that to ensure id alwys have enough air and the pump wouldnt run as much. Im actually redoing the air supply system and upgraded to a bigger pump and may remove the second tank Ill decide after some testing. I will post another vid after im done as im also doing a 98 inch kit, 96 ci heads, converted to hydraulic cam chest assembly, woods 66r cams, night prowler lifters, fuel moto adjustable push rods, ripped out the crappy m&m injection system and converted to a mikuni HSR42 carb with a dynatech ignition system. Im also powder coating a bunch of stuff for ths bike to make it stand out but still be tasteful
hmmm
