Wow, it's REALLY changed since we were there in 1986.... back then they only had a dinky airport with service via a DC-3 prop plane that flew from Christchurch to Mt. Cook and then Queenstown! That was a great trip though - we loved NZ - especially the South Island. Wish we would have immigrated now...

0:34 The female ATC operator can be barely understood. The gabbing and lack of articulation gets even worse when trying to instruct American 106 Heavy to hold position. IMHO, this type of radio communication, in terms of efficiency, is overvalued and at best, a diminishing return. This may have been a contributing factor to this incident.

Mashing the rejected takeoff superheats the brakes; now, a whole bunch of calculations have to go into fuel status as a result of the aborted takeoff. Possibly this will mess up crew hours, too, because of the time it will take for the brakes to cool, perform the checks, and work out their new clearances for the flight. I understand it is quite amazing how quickly these birds can stop given a near capacity mass. AA106 should have turned R at K and held short. Big oops. Yes, they have to put on their adult pants and call when reaching their destination. It is likely a long trip. This is the best version of this incident I have viewed. Well done!

I fly often from LCY despite having a huge fear of flying. Every e-190 takeoff from there is similar as this too. It gets up to speed so quickly, then during rotation its like a never ending push into your seat and if the weather is bad it feels as though the engines are idling as soon as it powers down as you're rocking back and forth in the fog.

How on earth is this happening a lot now. This will loose my confidence in flying

That was scary!!! I thought about all of those innocent passengers on the planes that had no idea how close they came to a collision. That's why it's important for every one to be professional and do their jobs. Kudos to ATC, you did and excellent job.
