Yes but the fact that these deaths do happen at all is completely unacceptable when they are avoidable. You're right, it's not the 18th Century but Ireland's laws on abortion were brought in in the middle of the 19th Century and are definitely inappropriate for the 21st. And what about the mother's health? The reason women die because of this law is that it only provises to save their lives, not preserve their health. Too vague. Should women not have the right to look after their own wellbeing?

Deaths from pregnancy is extremely rare and practically non existent in Ireland. This is not the 18th century and even in America, only 1% of abortions occur to save a mother's life and the abortion is not actually even necessary to save the mother's life. They are other options such as surgery in the cases of ectopic pregnancy and it can save the mother and also move the baby and if it dies, it is not directly killed. Abortion is just the selfish option. Women can also adopt too.
