I didn't know people disliked this album until 2020. I thought that album was a great display of Tyler's artisitic range and production skills. And the opening drums on this track are so heavy and almost tribal, to the point where they make you feel alive again.

it has to do with engagement, usually the big singles are placed as the second song on an album to keep listeners interested

I like to think about it this way, each first track is either setting the tone or introducing the album to us through the lyrics and instrumental. For Bastard and Goblin, the headspace of Wolf Haley/Ace is clearly conveyed to us through a song of them venting their problems and frustrations to Dr. TC on pretty much twisted, almost demonic beats, Wolf sets up the conflict between Wolf and Sam and switches up the tone first touched on by the orchestra, Cherry Bomb tried to introduce us to the new sound it’s going for, Flower Boy clearly states what direction the album is coming from and Tyler’s frustration, Igor’s theme sets up the themes that will be explored throughout the album through adlibs and its heavy synths, and Sir Baudelaire has a coarse yet tropical beat with lavish lyrics. These introduction tracks are how Tyler tries introducing you to each of his albums worlds, and it’s only until the second track you get into the meat of the actual album. Aside from Bastard, it’s clear Yonkers was one of the first songs written and produced considering other songs refer to its success like Goblin so they would obviously give it a video, Wolf immediately switches up on the orchestral introduction in exchange for a crude track that could honestly be a track that identifies the entire album. Tyler has said that during the creation of Cherry Bomb, he knew people were going to be upset at the sudden artistic change so he created Buffalo to try convince his fans that the old Tyler was still there, putting more emphasis on that track as a video, where this flower blooms is just a conceptual extension of what he did on Foreword and probably one of the best produced tracks on flower boy, and the love plot lines both get introduced in Earfquake and Corso. If anything, in Tyler’s mind these tracks had to have a music video because they truly represented each of the albums they came from.
