I'm just an American guy who currently lives in Japan. I enjoy writing and playing blues harp, so I decided to start recording myself. I also have a website where I talk about my work, lanechasek.com.

Swing music on harmonica (Bb harp, 1st position)
Переглядів 118День тому
An experiment using techniques from first position blues playing adapted to swing music. The harp I'm using is a Hohner Special 20 in the key of Bb. The track I'm using is from the Seydel website. www.seydel1847.de/whatsnew/SEYDEL-open-Harmonica-Contest-2024 I'd highly recommend using these backing tracks while they're still available.

A quick improv I did today using the B minor slow blues backing track from the Seydel Open 2024. You can find the backing track here, along with eleven others: www.seydel1847.de/whatsnew/SEYDEL-open-Harmonica-Contest-2024.

Hello from the seychelles
@@distoricass hello from Japan!
Nice work Lane!
Thanks, dude! I really like 1st position on my Bb. Isn't the Bb harp one of your favorites?
How often should the Easttop Mini Bass harmonica be cleaned?
It depends on how often you play it. I don't play mine as often as I'd like (I'll maybe play it once a week), so I try to clean it every other month.
@@lanechasek5560 Thank you for the feedback
Thanks Lane! My kids are going to get a kick out of this video, both of them being teenage Taki consumers…😆👍💯💯💯
Which key Is your harmónica?
Nice, Lane! I’m a fan of the 4th position jams! You play really well bro…what got you playing harmonica?
I got a toy harmonica at a 5 Below store in late 2022 and decided to start taking it seriously. It started as a joke to annoy my wife.
Nice!
Cool harp!
I gotta see parts 1&2! I have a beautiful contrabass Tombo harmonica (has its own little briefcase lol) plus an antique Hohner double decker bass harp. Keep up the good work Lane!
What key harmonica is this?
Hi….are you Ghost tracking ?
@@LeRequinBlue No, just enjoying the sights.
What do you say @12:38? Is it Sci fod? Is it some musical term I don't know? Or are you saying Sci fi? thanks!
@@sirpercivale “sci fi”
@@lanechasek5560 Ok! It does sound very sci-fi :) Thanks for quick reply
How does it compare to a Tombo Bass Harp please?
@@sirpercivale I’ve unfortunately never tried Tombo’s.
I bought an Aero Reed several years ago in a G . It was one of the original design with a chrome comb . Never let me down and still playing with the original reeds
Git it Bud!!!

These are strange to me but I like it a lot man 🇯🇵 🎉👍💯!

I have the full video here with both parts: ua-cam.com/video/rsRg5jUmBP4/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!

I am looking for resources to learn the bass harmonica and I cannot find any. Did you find any, could you recommend maybe material designed for other bass instruments. Not much musical background here, just a harmonica player. It is a lovely instrument the bass one, mesmerizing.
I've not been able to find much education material on the bass harmonica specifically, but Liam Ward uploaded a video about bass harmonica not too long ago. Before taking up harmonica, I played trombone, tuba, and piano, so those experiences have really helped me as I've been trying to learn this instrument. Otherwise, I can't think of any detailed instructional material on this instrument, which is unfortunate. When I get better, I'll try putting together a Google Doc or something.
@@lanechasek5560 Thanks for replying, I'll look forward to that Google Docs. Somebody asked in Liams video and he found nothing either. I have been looking for tuba and trombone material to start playing some easy things. Seven nations riff is very easy, stuff like that.
Nice Lane!
Sweet!
You’re a great player Lane! Do you play out at all?
@@dirtypatwalsh I play at a few shows in Kobe and Osaka.
@@lanechasek5560 nice! I have a friend in Osaka🙂
@@dirtypatwalsh Is he a harmonicat as well? If he is, I may have run into him!

Can you pls do a tutorial
Your videos ara so good you are a great musician I think you must be famous
Sounds good man I’m trying to play like you! Got any advice? I’ve only been at it a few months and I’m plateauing kinda
Try starting riffs on bent notes and see where they take you. I was in a bit of a rut because I kept starting riffs on 2 draw or 4 draw, but starting a riff on the 3 draw bend or 1 draw bend can force you to do weird things with your playing. And if you can overblow, try starting on an overblow. In addition, finding new keys of harp can inspire you greatly. Sometimes the same riff on a D harp will sound wildly different on a Db or B harp. To be honest, I’m a bit of a noob myself, but I hope this helps some.
Oooeee👍👏👏👏
As a beginner chromatic harp player from Pakistan, I really liked your channel for it's originality and the feel of life not cosmetics.
You're also very good 😊
the thing is like a brick. i bought the smaller pocket version but have to figure it out. where do i start? i have diatonics and chromatics.
It’s fairly easy to get started as it only has blow notes. Be sure to blow gently but steadily for the best tone. Sometimes articulating with the syllables “koi” or “kew” helps.
i've been working on "alfie" on my chromatica maybe i can work the bass into it. i also need a chord harmonica, they seem to be expensive.@@lanechasek5560
