    I really want to know more about Severna's lore/history, like who settled there first and when, who colonised/settled it over the centuries, how, why and when it managed to gain independence from whoever colonised it at the time, despite everything being stacked against it initially, then how they managed to stay independent after turning out to be a massive deposit of multiple valuable and lucrative resources, as well as how they stay socialist and not (insert Western intelligence agency here)-backed couped during the Cold War while being well within NATO territory. I also want to see how they deal with the fall of communism in the 90s (can't wait to see that, if it happens!) When you say there will be artificial islands for agricultural purposes, do you mean those islands will be dedicated purely to farming? And how much do you think you can get out of these farming islands, and how much would it reduce the need for grain imports? Loving the videos, keep it up!

      1. If every 21 year old citizen can apply for free house, it could be problem in future if there will be huge of citizens. Did Severna have solution for this problem? Severna has indeed anticipated the challenge of providing free housing to every 21-year-old citizen as the population grows. To address this, the government has put several measures and policies in place to ensure sustainable housing development: Continuous Development and Urban Planning: Severna constantly expands its residential districts, with a focus on high-density, multi-use developments. New housing projects are carefully planned in line with population growth, prioritizing both space efficiency and the preservation of green areas. This includes building upward, with high-quality apartment blocks that maximize land use. Population Distribution: To prevent over-concentration of citizens in certain districts, Severna encourages a balanced population distribution across the island. The government actively develops housing in less populated areas, providing transportation links, schools, and services to make these districts attractive to new citizens. Citizen Level and Priority: While every 21-year-old is entitled to a free home, the allocation of larger or more desirable units is based on a citizen’s level and contribution to society. This merit-based system ensures that citizens who have made significant contributions to the community are rewarded with higher-tier housing. Future-Proof Infrastructure: Severna is already exploring the possibility of expanding its habitable areas by creating artificial islands in shallow waters surrounding the main island. This will provide additional land for housing, agriculture, and industry, safeguarding the island's capacity to support future population growth. Community Living Initiatives: To reduce pressure on individual housing units, Severna is also promoting cooperative living and community housing projects. These initiatives encourage citizens to share resources and communal spaces, strengthening social cohesion while reducing the demand for individual homes. These strategies work together to ensure Severna can sustainably manage its housing needs, even as the population grows. The government is dedicated to maintaining a high quality of life for all citizens while adapting to future challenges. 2.) What about island size. Almost every place in Severna island is occupied with building or infrastructure. This could result in problematic country development. Severna’s small island size and its extensive development do present challenges, but the government has proactively implemented several strategies to ensure continued growth without compromising the island’s character or infrastructure: 1. Maximizing Vertical Space With limited land available, Severna has turned to vertical construction as a key solution. High-rise residential buildings, offices, and industrial complexes have become the norm, allowing for more people and industries to occupy smaller footprints. By building upwards, the country can continue to expand without consuming additional land area. 2. Reclamation and Artificial Islands Severna is investigating land reclamation projects to expand its territory. Plans are being discussed to create artificial islands in the shallow waters around Severna, which will provide space for new housing, industries, and even agricultural developments. These islands will be designed with the environment in mind, using sustainable building practices and integrating green spaces. 3. Efficient Land Use and Redevelopment Severna has adopted smart urban planning and redevelopment initiatives. Old, inefficient buildings and factories are being replaced with modern, space-efficient designs. The government ensures that areas are redeveloped with multi-use purposes in mind, combining residential, commercial, and recreational spaces in a single zone. 4. Underground and Subsurface Development To further utilize Severna’s geography, underground infrastructure is being explored. From subterranean transport tunnels to underground factories and even research labs, Severna is looking at ways to utilize its subsurface to support development. The ancient lava tubes and caverns beneath the island provide an opportunity for safe underground expansion. 5. Sustainable and Compact Infrastructure Severna prioritizes sustainable and space-saving infrastructure. For instance, essential services like waste treatment, water supply, and power plants are strategically centralized and built to operate efficiently in smaller spaces. Innovations like nuclear district heating and centralized waste processing free up land that would otherwise be needed for multiple, smaller facilities. 6. Promoting Remote Work and Decentralized Living In response to increasing population density, Severna is promoting remote work initiatives to lessen the strain on urban centers. Citizens are encouraged to work from home or decentralized workspaces spread across different parts of the island, reducing the pressure to build larger office districts. 7. International Trade and Off-Island Production Severna has begun investing in offshore partnerships for heavy industries and resource production. Instead of dedicating more land to additional factories and industrial complexes, Severna is outsourcing some of its more resource-intensive operations, relying on its robust exports and economic strength to support this model. 8. Strict Zoning Laws and Environmental Protection The government has implemented strict zoning laws that designate specific areas for nature conservation. These zones help maintain a balance between development and environmental sustainability. With ecologically sensitive design principles, Severna is ensuring that even with dense infrastructure, green spaces and public parks are prioritized to maintain the island's natural beauty. Conclusion: Through these innovative strategies, Severna is navigating the challenges posed by its limited size while continuing to develop and improve the quality of life for its citizens. These approaches ensure that the island remains sustainable, livable, and prepared for future growth. 3. Did Severna have other territories than Severna island? As of now, Severna has no other territories beyond the main Severna Island. The island itself is the core of the Republic, and all of its government, economy, and infrastructure are concentrated there. However, Severna has been exploring ways to expand its usable land without acquiring additional territories, such as through the creation of artificial islands in the shallow waters around the main island. While Severna doesn't possess foreign territories or colonies, the government has formed strong trade and cooperation agreements with neighboring countries like the UK and the Netherlands, allowing Severna to extend its influence and secure key resources, like food imports, without the need for external land. The idea of forming offshore platforms for industry or even creating joint projects with nearby nations in international waters has been floated in government discussions, but no concrete plans have been put into action yet. Severna's focus remains on optimizing its current land and maintaining good relations with nearby nations. 4.How much is Severna open to other countries (like western or eastern)? Severna maintains a policy of neutrality and non-alignment, which means it is open to cooperation with both Western and Eastern nations without fully aligning with either side politically. The island republic balances its relationships, drawing resources, technology, and trade opportunities from both blocs. Key Points: Trade and Economic Relations: Severna trades with both Western and Eastern nations, with a focus on exporting its natural resources (like oil and fuels) and manufactured goods (like electronics and machinery) to various countries. Severna imports much of its grain and luxury goods from a range of nations, ensuring it isn't overly reliant on any one partner. Scientific and Technological Cooperation: Severna collaborates with countries in both spheres for its scientific and technological advancement. For example, the Republic has agreements with Western companies to develop high-tech industries and also collaborates with Eastern nations for large-scale infrastructure projects. Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange: Severna promotes cultural exchange programs, allowing visitors from both East and West to experience its unique way of life. The nation hosts international events, such as exhibitions and festivals, to strengthen its neutral stance and encourage tourism and diplomacy. SevernaAir, the national airline, operates flights to both Western and Eastern nations, reinforcing these connections. Military and Security: Severna has no standing military, relying on treaties and diplomatic relations to ensure its security. The island’s strategic location in the North Sea makes it a valuable partner for neighboring countries, and Severna benefits from agreements with both NATO and Eastern bloc countries to guarantee its safety and sovereignty. Severna's strategy is to remain open and adaptable, using its geographic and political neutrality to thrive in a divided world while benefiting from relationships on both sides.5.What about trolleybuses. Did Severna use this ecologic kind of transportation? No severna does not use trolley busses. While Severna has focused on an extensive rail and electric transport system, it has not adopted trolleybuses as a mode of transportation. The island relies primarily on electric trains, trams, and buses powered by electric batteries, reducing the need for overhead trolleybus infrastructure. This decision allows Severna to maintain a cleaner skyline and concentrate on more versatile forms of public transit.

      I did, I really did yes, but I have recently upgraded my CPU to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D from a Ryzen 7 2700X and its pretty good. Well for a population of 350K its playable. On my old system once it got to around 150K that was about as far as I could go. My other specs are a RTX 4070 & 32GB 3600MHZ DDR4. However, Severna has been designed and built since March 1st 1960 with this late game performance crunch at the forefront of my plans (no personal cars, effective rail distribution, short road journeys only, no auto search/ find not selected in construction yards etc etc). So its not just PC hardware the design of your republic is crucial too.

      Thank you for your question. In Severna, we understand that cultural norms around housing and independence can vary, and we respect that diversity. If someone doesn’t claim a house by their 22nd birthday, they won’t lose their right to a home. The housing unit remains available, and they can apply for housing at any point in the future when they feel ready to move out. Additionally, we recognize that many citizens may prefer to stay with their family for cultural or personal reasons. In such cases, we simply ask that individuals notify the Housing Authority of their preference to stay with family, which can be reflected in their housing options at a later date. Severna is committed to providing housing in a way that accommodates both individual needs and cultural values, ensuring that no one feels pressured to leave home before they are ready

    Alright interesting, I enjoy people who think differently to the system we have, we need that to keep improving, but I think I see a few flaws, firstly, how can such a nation keep building new housing continuously on such short notice, constantly building or even mantaining buildings of good quality and in close harmony and proximity to nature seems extremely expensive resource wise, you would have to divert alot of people to just work on building, designing and distributing homes. Even assuming this is a moneyless society, this stuff needs alot of work, effort and recources. East Germany had an assigned housing system, you just had to wait 12 years and the housing was total crap. The honour system also seems flawed, who decides who deserves what, and how easily is it corruptible? How do you prevent people from favoring their relatives or the elite from changing the rules to favour themselves? And likewise, why would I ever nominate someone who works pretty hard in my neighbourhood who I kinda know, when I can nominate my buddies or family? Just some things I was thinking of, again I like the system, I was just wondering some stuff.

    • @7sevensevern
      @7sevensevern 17 днів тому

      Hey, thanks for the comment! I really appreciate the fact that you're thinking critically about this system-after all, it's the different perspectives that help us improve any society, real or fictional. 😊 You’ve brought up some great points, so let me dive in and respond to each. First off, you’re totally right-continuously building and maintaining housing in a way that’s in harmony with nature is no small task. In Severna, the idea is that the government has dedicated significant resources to creating a sustainable and scalable housing model. Since Severna doesn’t rely on a profit-driven economy, the focus is on meeting citizens' needs, not cutting corners to maximize profits. That said, you’re spot on-this requires a lot of labor, planning, and resources. But instead of diverting tons of people solely to construction, Severna prioritizes automation where possible, while the people involved are often those between jobs or looking for community-focused work. It’s a system built on cooperation and contribution rather than individual profit. Now, the comparison with East Germany is fair. But in Severna’s world, the focus is more on quality, and the system is constantly reevaluated to avoid the bureaucratic stagnation that you’d find in something like the old GDR. We’re aiming for a society that doesn’t just wait forever for a rundown apartment but provides good-quality housing relatively quickly-though there are, of course, still limits, especially with Severna being such a small island. As for the honor system, you're right again-it’s something that could easily be open to corruption. That’s why Severna’s system is heavily monitored and audited, with strict guidelines to prevent people from favoring family or friends. The nominations are publicly logged (with personal data protected, of course), and there are mechanisms in place to ensure that nominations are based on actual contributions to the community. If someone’s trying to game the system, it gets flagged, and there are serious consequences. The "why nominate?" question is interesting. In Severna’s culture, the sense of community is strong-helping others helps everyone. So while you could, in theory, nominate a buddy or family member, the idea is that people take pride in recognizing those who truly contribute to the collective good. It’s more of a cultural shift-if the system isn’t based on competition, then there’s less incentive to favor someone just because you’re close. It’s not perfect, but it’s more about building a society where people genuinely want to see each other thrive. I hope that answers some of your thoughts! Again, I really appreciate the constructive feedback. It's always great to have people engaging with the ideas, even when they don't totally agree. Thanks for watching, and keep the questions coming!

However, core services like energy, water, transportation, education, housing, and healthcare are all provided free of charge. Given that Severna is such a small island, it’s the same citizens who are both creating and benefiting from these services, which is what drives their motivation. There’s a strong sense of community responsibility-if they don’t work together to keep the system running, their entire society would face collapse. That’s the real incentive.

    The Citizen Honor System is a very interesting conceptualization of democratic socialism. Ive had a similar concept for a while now; a PAC or PTA, People's Action Commitee or People's Treasury of Architecture. Basically a regional organization that has a publicly viewable bank account, and said account consists of donations from the regional people and state subsidy. The account is basically frozen at all times--except for when, every few years, a council of architects, engineers, project managers, etc. (determined by regional election) will host design competitions, public and private meetings about various civil subjects, etc. etc. Once the council and people had decided, the money in the public and locked account could then be spent on repairs, building parks, more roads, refurbishing or expanding the local university, etc. etc. Also another idea I had is that a PAC or PTA could fill the gap between highschool and college, teaching vocational and technical courses (electrician, plumbing, construction, etc.) to young men during the two-year gap. Basically, some members of the proletariat could get partially subsidized Associate's degrees in the aforementioned fields, making sure people are well equipped with practical skills for adulthood, and help supplement the workforce. Also some people could volunteer for part-time shifts on weekends to participate in trash cleanups and general maintenance work in their general area. In exchange for these brief shifts, they could get small payments or a slight discount on rent.

    • @7sevensevern
      @7sevensevern 18 днів тому

      Thanks so much for sharing your concept! The People's Action Committee (PAC) and People's Treasury of Architecture (PTA) ideas sound fascinating-definitely along the lines of what we're thinking with the Citizen Honor System in Severna. I love the way you’re blending public engagement with transparent, community-driven projects. The idea of having a publicly viewable bank account for regional donations, combined with state subsidies, really adds a layer of accountability and direct involvement that could strengthen trust between the people and local government. It's a very democratic approach, giving the power back to the people to decide where their resources are going. Your vocational gap program between high school and college is brilliant as well. In Severna at 13 years old the education splits into the 3 sectors of our economy. Having a structured system to teach practical skills like plumbing, electrical work, and construction during that transition period would not only help bolster the workforce but give young people a solid foundation for adulthood. It’s very much in the spirit of ensuring everyone has a role in building the community-whether it’s through formal jobs or even part-time shifts like the trash cleanups and maintenance you mentioned. I also love the idea of rewarding volunteer efforts with things like rent discounts or small payments. It really encourages civic pride and keeps people engaged in the welfare of their own neighborhoods. It’s not only about contributing but making sure people feel valued for the work they’re doing. Honestly, I’d love to hear more about how you’ve developed these ideas-Severna and your conceptual PAC/PTA could share some notes! Thanks again for such a thoughtful comment. 😊

    Alright, have your comment: sounds like utopian wishful thinking (or just propaganda, but I prefer the optimistic version). First and most importantly, it's unrealistic as is that any form of socialist society has the kind of spare resources this would require. It's a garbage economic system, for which only the simplest problem is the Knowledge Problem: without a market and prices, you can only guess and generalize about the needs of other people. Second, the other big problem with centralized power, besides it's economic ineptness, is corruption. There is a huge incentive those in power to give a better set of choices to friends/family/etc. Third, from personal experience large blocks of flats (like the ones in your background animation) do not "promote a sense of community", especially when they're all drab white-gray. Fourth, the idea of citizen level doesn't really need an explanation - any "-69420 social credit" meme will suffice. It's a measure to force everyone to fall in line, or else. And the final problem I'll comment on (though certainly more could be said) is the idea of somehow balancing "more, better, bigger homes" with "not touching nature" - utopianism again, powered by a terrible economic system, which has time and again led to atrocities rather than prosperity.

    • @7sevensevern
      @7sevensevern 18 днів тому

      First, let’s tackle the “utopian wishful thinking” bit. Sure, Severna’s world-building is idealistic, but hey, we’re playing a game-why not imagine what’s possible? I find it ironic, though, that your critique of resource management in socialism could easily be applied to the wild inefficiencies and inequalities in capitalist societies. You know, the ones where we somehow have billionaires hoarding wealth while people struggle to meet basic needs? Funny how that works. 🤔 As for corruption, it’s definitely a concern in any system, but centralized power isn't the only place it thrives. Corruption has a cozy home in corporate boardrooms too-just ask anyone living paycheck to paycheck while CEOs get golden parachutes. Now, onto those "drab tower blocks." I get it-grey blocks aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. But I’m not convinced that living in a high-rise means community can’t thrive. When people have no reason to steal from each other and pride in their shared environment, even a tower block can be a space where neighbors become friends. It’s less about the architecture and more about the social fabric, wouldn’t you agree? As for citizen levels-yes, the "social credit" meme is fun, but in Severna, it's not about forcing people into line. It’s more about recognizing contributions to society. A community doesn’t collapse because people are motivated to better themselves, it thrives. And lastly, the balance between development and nature is something we’re always working on, even in capitalist systems where "progress" often bulldozes right over the environment. Severna at least tries to maintain the balance-utopian, sure, but it's nice to dream of doing better, right? So, thanks for sharing your thoughts-genuinely. It’s always good to get a fresh perspective, but perhaps we can all agree that no system, real or imagined, is perfect. We’re just building something better, one block (or block of flats) at a time. Cheers! ✌️

      @@7sevensevern >I find it ironic, though, that your critique of resource management in socialism could easily be applied to the wild inefficiencies and inequalities in capitalist societies. It really can't. I'll try to give a brief example of what the Knowledge Problem is, though if you have the time I recommend looking into it yourself. How much would you, reading this comment, pay for an apple? $1 maybe, or 50 cents, or you really fancy one and would even pay 10. Now, how much would I pay for an apple? Perhaps I wouldn't pay any price for an apple, because I hate apples so much that even throwing one against the wall wouldn't relieve my anger at such a horrible gift. Can you say that's false? No, because only I know what I want. By extension, no central authority can know how to divide resources properly. In a market-based economy, you can find that out though - prices, set by consumer demand and producer supply, will allow you to distribute resources efficiently. Sure, not everyone gets what they want, but it's not supposed to be a utopia, merely a functional system on which society can be built - unlike central planning. >Corruption has a cozy home in corporate boardrooms too It certainly can be found there, which makes sense, given that corporations are, in fact, rather centralized. They do avoid a key problem though. What would be the simplest example of corruption? Probably a cop who threatens to beat you up or arrest you unless you pay up. Why does it work? Because he can do that - he, as an agent of government, has the right to use force against you, and it is on you to prove he missused it. For corruption to thrive, you need centralization and the ability to use violence. A socialist state is by definition centralized, the ultimate monopoly, and it can certainly use force against "enemies of the revolution". >It’s less about the architecture and more about the social fabric, wouldn’t you agree? and also >citizen levels Not only do we have a style of architecture designed for soulless robots (look at the video - not even a playground), but if you say the wrong thing you're in danger of being deemed a less worthy citizen. From ancient Athenian ostracism to internet forum echochambers, the ability to "vote out" members of society has always been used to enforce conformity. Based on that record I'd rather... not. >balance between development and nature Is a good goal to aim for, yes. My criticism is only that making bigger homes and preserving more untouched nature sounds a lot like wanting to have your cake... and eat it, too. And it's not very easy to make more cake here - the Dutch and Japanese probably do it best, but it's not as simple as your video seems to suggest. Some closing thoughts: Three hurrahs for discussion! I probably won't continue to comment, maybe if you have a specific question - YT comment threads get messy quickly. My criticism isn't about the series - chronicling events in a game like this is nice. I have a serious problem with the system you are presenting, mostly because if it ever came to power I would likely end up in a "reeducation camp" (or worse) for my individualist beliefs. You probably don't think so, but historically the odds aren't on your side. To quote a certain Russian writer, I hope you realize what it is you're supporting before you hear "hands behind your back there" and step ashore on our Archipelago.
