A Pencil Sharpener for the wood shop!
Переглядів 4289 місяців тому
This video isn’t very exciting or compelling, but it makes me happy. Today I’ll be sharing with you a great manual pencil sharpener that I bought for my hand tool woodworking shop. I had previously been using a mechanical pencil, because I thought it would achieve the finest lines for my joinery. However, I didn’t like that the lead always broke off, and the units can be hard to reload. The goo...

Is it time for you to refresh your Rag in a Can oiler? Make this instead!
Nope, far inferior.
I agree, It is hard to beat the classic haha thanks for watching!
Stop with acting. It makes people think you are just bought. 😊
That’s good advice. As a newer UA-camr, I have done many of these tool reviews, but I think in 2025 I may not do any. I think my content has gotten stagnant, and I’m not really providing any value for people. Thank you for watching, and stick with me for a great new year with less cringy videos haha.
Novelty mimic not meant for anyone professional
I actually agree with you, that’s the reason I don’t want to keep it. I know someone else will love it, but yes I feel like this may be more of a homeowner kinda tool. Thank you for watching! Stop by anytime.
My mom could use this to help build her conversion van. I flew out there earlier this year and helped with the electrical. She'll be doing the cabinets and furniture next, all out of wood.
That would be a fun project! You are entered, and I want to thank you for watching my little channel. Stop by anytime!
Nice device. That's the first time I've seen such a combo. Thanks for the review. I think you may have forgotten to make your affiliate link for the product, into a link. Just thought you might want to know. I wanted to check on the price.
Thank you! I’ll have to check it out. I’m not what you would call a professional haha. You are entered into the drawing! Thank you for watching
Lol i hit send by accident lol. As I was saying on my first comment. I've been woodworking for years and this would be a great upgrade in my shop. Peace Brother
Perfect! You are entered. I should be drawing names on January 2nd. Thank you for watching and joining me in the shop!
I think it's really cool an would love to have it

@@Pynefurnishings great 👍 thanks!! I'll email you now. Peace Brother
Comment on this video to be entered into a giveaway for this tape measure. Do you think this tool would work well in your woodshop?
I was thinking about the same. Thanks
You're a drama queen!
You are on to me…lol. I may have to bite the bullet and just learn free hand sharpening. Haha thanks for watching!
They work for a week or two then the mice get used to it and come back.
That’s a good point! I will probably have to make sure to seal off the building well, clear up any trash on the property, etc. I agree it will have to be part of an entire plan to get them gone for good. Thanks for watching!
Do you have pests in the workshop? This thing is pretty neat, and it won’t break the bank.
Just got my Doyle vise installed. That thing is *heavy*! I milled out two 2" thick by 1' oak blocks to be the vise faces, mounted flush. I lose a bit of width but it gave me enough wood to drill holes for the bench dogs. Very solid and looks great. Appreciate the tips!
I wish you many years of fun in the shop!
Why only wood on side side of your clamp. Normally wood on both sides
It’s in process haha. I have also considered using rubberized cork on one side. it’s a great little vise. I highly recommend it
Sam Maloof didn't use That minwax Tung Oil He used Pure Tung Oil. That Minwax Tung Oil is a mixture.
You’re way better off just watching marketplace or Craigslist for a 1940s columbia for $20-40.
That would be awesome! I’ve ran across many old leg vises. It’s a huge market if you look closely
What the height on this saddle stand?
I’m trying to remember, I think it was 24” tall? With the casters it added a few inches. It was wonderful the other day the family and I went to this Texas Roadhouse and we got to see someone use it for their birthday haha
Good video bud.👍
Thank you!!
Real
I live in Tuscaloosa County, neighbor. I need a broadfork really badly to break up some serious compaction. You reckon that broadfork could do the trick? Thanks.👍
Good luck on your gardening! This is a great cheaper tool
Says it’s hard to work with. How about wood chips to smoke on a grill? Did you look that up?
That’s a good idea! I’ll look it up now
First review I've seen showing off the quick release lever. I'm sold! Picking on of these up stat!
It really is great, at that price. And fairly easy to mount. It just doesn’t come with lag screws or washers.
Does this lumber do well? Share your thoughts!
What is your opinion of this wood? 🎉
This was a fantastic review. Ty for the advice and was able to grab one during their fourth sale for 17% which was around $50 for the vise. For a beginner like myself, it has a lot of very nice features, seems sturdy, and the price didn’t break the bank. I don’t usually go for the Harbor Freight stuff but sometimes they just knock some products out of the park. And the value is certainly there. Thanks again for the review.
I agree. I’ve had mine for maybe 6 months now and it hasn’t failed me. Thank you for watching! I’m starting live streams each Saturday, and I may go over my bench on the next one. I invite you to join us and chat
I love all your weird tools.
Thank you for watching!
This looks way better than it did. Good job
Thank you! You watching makes me happy!
Great video! I’m glad you fixed the broom ordeal. Haha
How do you tackle dust in the wood shop? Drop your thoughts below!!!
There is nothing sweeter than taking a old plane & bringing it back to life. Over here we have boot sales. People sell stuff from the Trunk of their car. So I totally get what you have done. Keep going.
Thank you! It is so fun to give old things new life. I hope you found joy by watching, and I invite you to always be a part of my family on here
This was hard! I need practice and prayers…
Have you ever restored an old tool? What tips can you share?
How do you all handle the humidity?
How much do you charge to make this?
Well I worked out a deal with the management to get gift certificates instead of actual dollars. This way I got way more bang for my buck. I ended up taking the wife to dinner almost 8 times if that tells you anything haha. If I were to charge cash, I would probably charge around $300 or so. Something like that. I get my cedar from a buddy dirt cheap, so I pass the savings along to my clients
$60
That makes sense lol. I’ll probably keep it and learn on it
What is your go-to router plane?
Do you guys have any router plane tips and tricks? Please share below!
Yes! I was waiting for this exact project! It'll definitely very helpful while I continue to analyze Woody Hyezmar's projects which you get in his Woodworking Bible by go’ogling it and hoping it’s still available.
It’s a fun little project. I may build some templates so I can build them quicker haha
This answers the questions I had about this guide. Many thanks.
No problem! Hope you enjoy the channel my friend
@@Pynefurnishings Subbed thanks to this. Cheers.
How did ot go with the seed just sitting there or did you go back and cover them
I've made a similar device but with two little seed holders made from scrap square section rainwater pipe with the the bottom blocked. They're just held in place by a couple of cable ties, Why two seed holders? I like to station sow and mark the rows with quick growing radishes. I draw a drill with my draw hoe then go along the row alternating a pinch of radish with a pinch of carrots or other seed. The radishes come up quickly and mark the row for hoeing but are pulled long before the bunches of carrots are ready. My wife and i are late seventies so the ground is a bit further away than it used to be!
That sounds amazing!!! Anything to help our bodies feel better
Great addition to the wood shop. Just mounted one in mine recently.
Nice! So far so good on this one. So some odd reason I prefer the manual over the electric. I know some models have “auto stop” but I just like it old school haha
Looks like your daughter likes it, that's the important thing. The cover for those pencil sharpeners is designed so you can turn them 90-deg for when the frame is side-mounting as the one in your video. That puts the long end downward so it will hold more pencil chips before needing to be emptied. just a tip, not meaning to be picky.
I’m glad you said that! Haha. It’s all a learning experience for me. I hope you enjoy the videos. Always feel free to leave tips and tricks. I’m just trying to be a better person and craftsman. 😀
Do you prefer pencils? Marking knife? Mechanical pencils? Let me know!
I prefer good 'ol pencils as opposed to mechanical or square carpenter pencils.
@@markblackman3168 I agree. It takes a little more effort to keep them sharp and all, but I find old school pencils just feel better and can get a nice thin line if you put the effort in. Thanks for watching!
I only wear one when I am cooking not woodworking.
There is really no evidence from your videos that you know what you are talking about when it come to woodworking. I don't know many woodworkers who don't use an apron.
That’s true, I am a beginner. I basically just document my journey for others. Thank you for watching.
@@Pynefurnishingswhat a classy response. Bravo
If you spread good vibes, they come back to you eventually
The only time I’ve wore a apron in a shop was using a lathe because it CRAZY messy 😂. I don’t own a lathe nor apron at the moment. I’ll be making my own apron eventually because all the ones I’ve used and seen are not suited for me. I like to be able to move freely with a snug fit, just below the table in length, supple leather, crease ability in the waist area, sternum height, heavy duty elastic back straps, large finger / drain holes in pockets, quality magnetic buckling system, thick stitched, curvy stylized chest cut, and proper fitting pockets with hand ready tools at hand. If you want it done right, sometimes you gotta do it yourself. Of course at this magnitude, I’d wear it as a convenience thing and make it easier to blow my clothes off. Also, I work with metal, so it would help my clothes (shirts) stay clean longer. Arrh Arrh Arrh “Tim the toolman voice”
That’s a good point! I have always admired metal work. If I had to heat my wood up first, I’d probably give up lol. Thanks for watching!
