How NOT to Arrive at Oshkosh (from RadarContact)
This pilot decided to attempt the Fisk arrival into Oshkosh for EAA AirVenture - without using the NOTAM that says how to do it. For the mental wellbeing of our beloved air traffic controllers, please do your homework before you fly to Oshkosh!
Or don't, and eventually find yourself here where we can all point at you and laugh.

Переглядів 1,3 тис.9 років тому
A Civil Air Patrol Maule M-7 on floats uses a dolly to take off from runway 36 at Massey Ranch Airpark (X50) in Edgewater, FL. The dolly seems to have had a mind of its own...

This is the problem with gps in airplanes. No more planning or following charts. Just IFR direct. The should have told him to land @ fund du lac and RTFM.

DUDE. How are you going to show your butt like this on freq over the largest gathering of pilots and aircraft in the world. That controller should have told him "No. Go back and get your NOTAM as required by FAA regulations."

what a douché with a capital D! don't have the NOTAM, go back to where you're from and get the NOTAM. if he was IFR and had an iPad, he could pull it up. he may have been apologetic, but was a total DOUCHÉ! this is kinda like picking teams for basketball in middle school, and one of the guys doesn't even know how to play basketball.

Wow. How do you have a reserved parking spot at Oshkosh, and you planned to fly the notice arrival, but then when the tower asks you about "Ripon", you don't even know what "Ripon" is? If you're not even familiar with the existence of the "Ripon" waypoint, that indicates that you have not even looked at the arrival notice let alone studied it exhaustively for the week or two before your planned flight. The guy in the tower should've told him to divert to the nearest airport, find an Internet connection, and download the PDF for the arrival on his phone, read through it once at minimum, and then attempt to make the flight. What a jackass.

Seriously, equal blame goes on the controller for endangering everybody else. Only thing he did right was tell the guy to go back home and get the notam. Should have been end of sentence. Allowing him to proceed inbound was a mistake.

This guy, everybody makes mistakes but this guy is wasting ATC time and blocking the frequency for other pilots who know what they're doing. The pilot is obviously way out of his depth. I hope he didn't get away with this or if he did, he learnt from his mistakes, and complete lack of planning.

Flying into Oshkosh even for highly experienced show vets can be extremely intense. I think we can all just cut the guy some slack here. The controllers did a phenomenal job assisting when he was obviously stressed out and scared. Hats off to them for the job they do.

This conversation sounded like me looking for my keys, after my wife is summoned. Then looking for a shirt, then can't find.. Her responses make these controllers seem mild in comparison. Fortunately, I plan my flights much more efficiently and without asking for her input (I get it anyway).

Even when going somewhere by car I get the „approach plate“ and try to memorize what turns to make 😅 on the other hand I’m not a pilot yet and driving a car is stupidly easy compared to operating an aircraft and it’s system so… my respect he at least made it.
