    Have had my Carbon V Trailmaster for 30 years and it still gets used. Have had my Carbon V SRK even longer. Carried it as an infantryman throughout the 90s. It also still gets used. I own alot of Cold Steel products from blowguns to swords, throwing knives, stars, tomahawks and alot of rare and expensive ones. I'm an outdoorsman and my tools get used hard. Their newer stuff is nothing like their bread and butter. Lookin at the 3V SRK now.

      Nice! I very much enjoy using my Cold Steel knives for work. My Voyagers, mainly the XL Clip Point, have been getting lots of use lately. Nothing like what you've probably used them for, mostly lots of cardboard and insulation and plastic cutting. Mine are all newer except two, a Katana machete and a mini Recon 1. Was Cold Steel popular when you were an infantryman? Just asking. Those knives you mentioned sound badass. I wish I knew they were around back then. You sound like a true Cold Steel fan, I salute you sir haha 👍🔪⚔️🗡️🇺🇸.

      @adrianfytr35 Most people don't really know alot of brands, especially back then. Very few had Cold Steel because most weren't really knife guys. They bought whatever the PX sold, which were usually cheap. They carried CRKT, Kershaw, Buck etc. Most actually asked me when they needed a knife. Lol Brought a Roach Belly to work today. Gonna use a milling machine to put a little texture on the handle.

    They also make a fixed blade version called the Finn Bear. I've owned the green Finn Wolf for years and never use it. If I'm doing bushcraft or camp tasks, I'm using a fixed blade like a Mora or the many others I have.

    I have a Trailmaster currently. It’s the new 3V model and it came with good grinds, but it did have a long parallel scratch in the satin finish on one side out of the box. I did order a Recon Scout, which I liked a lot, but the grind on the spine was actually really bad, so I returned it. I’m gonna try another purchase for the Recon Scout at some point for a better quality controlled one.

I'm not giving up hope in Cold Steel yet, I'm too new to this knife game lol. How has the Trailmaster held up so far? Oh by the way, Happy New Year!! Thanks for watching 👍🔪🗡️!

    First of all, congratulations on your purchase or gift. Don't worry that the knife doesn't cut plastic bottles on the fly, it can be changed. You can do what I did with my SRK and EF 131. Re-profile the knife to 18 degrees on the side with a fix angle sharpener (preferably on diamonds, to a max grit of 1500), then hone the blade on a belt with polishing paste, it is important that it has a fine grit. I use white Bark River paste. After this treatment, SRK cuts wood like a Scandi knife. The second thing is the bottle cutting technique. Try not to cut flat, but tilt the blade back slightly. PeterBilTKnifeGuy has a good technique. I cut through 4 large water bottles with Fallkniven A1 each time (6mm on the spine).

    • @adrianfytr35
      @adrianfytr35 Місяць тому

      Why thank you sir! It was a gift, I'm freaking lucky haha. I've watched a video and read at least one article talking about an 18° or 17° edge. I'm not good enough of a sharpener to try that yet but I will absolutely try it one day(probably on a less expensive knife to start). I just received a diamond sharpening plate that is 400/1000 grit. That will be what I use , I don't have a machine with a belt. I will get a strop within the next month or two. Yeah I usually have a decent slicing technique, I was in a hurry and hit the bottle flat, like an amateur lol. Terrible. Thanks for the advice and thanks for watching 👍🔪⚔️🗡️! Merry Christmas!

    Hey, I legit picked this knife up for $35 last week. It's a great everyday utility blade. Nothing special. But I wasn't looking for anything special other than edge retention. I've been buying and using Cold Steel since the late 80s. Own many, many of their tools with some being rare and hard to get anymore. I used to look forward to Special Projects coming in the mail. They used to take alot of risks and made some items for a very short time. These items are extremely hard to find, at least for reasonable prices. Do have a Code 4 coming. $44 @ Midway (spearpoint only). My GI Tanto is old and bombproof. I have no experience with the newer ones. Did carry my Carbon V SRK for a decade as an infantryman, throughout the 90s.

      In my opinion not really. I carry several knives every day, switching my pocket flipper every few weeks, for about the last year. So far, even when I accidentally leave water or some kind of moisture on the blade I see no rust at all. That's my experience so far. I’m sure you did, but always check your grind lines. I’ve seen many people complain about them, but I was lucky to receive a flawless one. My knife has never touched the default sheath, they ruin edges. I purchased an aftermarket leather sheath for it. Such a great knife gifted to you by a wonderful wife.

      Oh yes, I did check, I poured over that blade for a good two hours the first day I had it lol. It was flawless. That is, until I put it in the Secure-Ex sheath ☹️. Took it out, small scratch on the flawless blade. It was my fault, I should've listened to like every single person that has a video on this knife lol. It was gonna get scratched up eventually, but I wanted to do the scratching. Thanks for watching 👍🔪⚔️🗡️! Oh and yes my wife is super awesome for gifting me the Trailmaster 🤠.
