    Good run down. I have the same lens, also in pristine condition. It's an absolute gem, and for a prime lens with no zoom, really versatile. I'm a lifelong Nikon man, but I developed a soft spot for Minolta years ago when I got a good deal on a (new) Dynax 404si. I accidentally picked up a Minolta SRT303b second hand when a deal on a Nikkormat with a 50mm f1.2 fell through. I am amazed at the build quality and the sharp, well-balanced pictures this thing produces. What a shame that unlike Nikon with their F mount, Minolta didn’t respect the same mount throughout their production history, thus ensuring lifelong compatibility and service. Minolta was a legendary brand. For them to disappear under the Sony umbrella was a disaster.

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 12 днів тому

      Thanks for your comment! Minolta's time as a legend was long gone before Sony, so you can't really blame Sony for anything. They were lucky to be acquired at all. The low quality plastic autofocus SLRs and lenses they made for a few years were the nails in their coffin. Sony poured their huge resources into leaving the legacy Minolta "A" mount to develop what the "E" mount is now. Even with their best efforts Canon still has double Sony's market share, with Nikon in third (with half of what Sony has). Minolta Konica's assets were acquired by Sony, but the Minolta brand belongs to Elite Brands. They started releasing horrible cameras under the Minolta name in 2017.

      @chosenideahandle Wow, that is amazing information. Why don't you do a video on all this? It's fascinating. So, Sony has a bigger market share than Nikon? That really surprises me. Here in Continental Europe, Nikon seems to be by far the most respected brand apart from really exotic stuff like Leica (my wife says that's for freaks!) I thought the market went from Nikon to Canon, and then all the smaller Japanese brands like Olympus, Fuji, etc, and that Sony was paddling around there with the other also-rans. Seems I was very much mistaken. Thanks for putting me straight!

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle Місяць тому

      Thanks for the visit! There is a very marginal advantage in photos, but shooting video is where the much more noticeable advantage goes to the Sony (although at full zoom you'll need a steady hand regardless). The in-camera stabilization of my current cameras, still has me hanging onto the Tamron for it's light weight. On the photo side of things, anyone shooting outside won't have any issue shooting during the day shooting with either lens (like in my use-case). If it gets a bit dark outside (or if you have to shoot indoors) the strategy with both lenses will be increasing your ISO, because neither have an option to open the aperture enough to help. At the full zoom a tripod when shooting video is a good idea with both, but I've gotten away handheld with both lenses as well. If you don't mind the weight and cost the Sony is the winner for those often shooting video at full zoom.

      Hi! I'm doing all the talking head stuff with a Sony FX30 (so same image/sensor you'd get from the a6700), and the lens is the Sigma 30mm F1.4 Contemporary. I'd recommend the Sigma 23mm F1.4 as a more practical option over the 30mm if you're in a smaller space. I was using the 23mm until I dropped it onto my concrete floor!

    Do you take pics without background blur? Would have been nice to see how it does at f8 or f11

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 2 місяці тому

      Sure! Most people want to see what an F1.2 can do at the most challenging F1.2. F8 to F11 is where even the worst lenses can do quite decently, so there really isn't much to see or say (other than it's very good). Although I'd rather take a much lighter and wider alternative, it would even take great landscape photos. Like most lenses it remains the same or only gets better until f8-f11, and then things drop off due to refraction at the smallest apertures. Autofocus still has no problem with subject detection on my Sony at smaller apertures. I did a car-spotting video shot almost entirely at F8 with this lens, if you're interested ua-cam.com/video/YaU4lGpLx7Y/v-deo.html

    Same battery voltage and nothing else should matter

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 2 місяці тому

      It's more complicated. The argument is that because cycle times are so much shorter the flash head hasn't time to recover, and then the draw on the batteries creates the extreme heat. If I follow the manual I have with the TT350 they say people shouldn't be firing more than 10 rapid flashes without a 15 minute break afterwards, and then later in the same manual it says you shouldn't fire more than 30 rapid flashes without a 10 minute break to cool afterwards (a bit messed up). The batteries do get much hotter than my normal cells, but nothing like I've heard.

    • @hdnfbp
      @hdnfbp 2 місяці тому

      @@chosenideahandle the only problem you may have is shortening the lifetime of the batteries if the flash pulls more amps than it can take, most batteries burn because they are overused so the internal insulators are worn out, aside from that, I can't think anything besides voltage that could screw the flash

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 2 місяці тому

      @@hdnfbp I'm only saying this because I've already asked the people that know. You can cook your flash head easier if the batteries allow you to cycle faster than regular batteries. My flash for instance has a limit of 10 strobes before you have to allow it to cool for 15 minutes (recommended by Godox).

    Hello! What's the best one to use with a Canon 700D? Thanks!

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 3 місяці тому

      The RS3 Mini easily handles a Canon 700D with the right lens. Your choice in lenses that will be the primary question of compatibility with a gimbal. Balancing with a long lens, or inordinately heavy lens will mean going to a bigger gimbal. A bigger gimbal will allow you to shift the camera further back to balance it. What lens were you considering with the gimbal?

    Sounds good. Your indoor section was pretty echoie! Not good for a sound guy!

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 3 місяці тому

      Sound guy?! Noooo lol. This place is all concrete, but I also live here (so no ugly acoustic panels for me, or carpet). There are some really nice walnut slat panels that are acoustic out there, but those will be in the new place (I'm selling the current studio). I usually use a shotgun mic for my interior talking head shots, and the M2s are WAY better at reducing the echo. Thanks for dropping in!

    Are the luts Phantom compatible with the Sony a6700 the same as the FX6?

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 3 місяці тому

      Hi! The FX30 shares the a6700 sensor, so the colour out of slog is the same. Provided you use the Phantom LUTS made for the FX30 your a6700s colour should be good. I've been using the neutral LUT for both cameras, but also experimenting with some of the film looks Joel has developed. The talking-head segments in all my episodes are with the FX30, or a6700 and the neutral Phantom LUT. I've also been grading with the Dehancer plug-in lately and no Phantom LUTs at all for some projects. Thanks for your question!

    Thank you from Kent UK. Going to buy the K&F. £65 on Amazon UK (Green). P.S I had the 450AW it was awful, way too heavy. Not comfortable. I now put my backpack ina normal hiking bag that does a better job and simply pull the other bag out on hikes. Far cheaper too. JJC do nice adds on.

      Thanks for your visit😊. That green looks spot-on. I'm with you 100%, the 450AW weighed more empty than my camera with my tele on it (someone bought it two days after the video). It's very cool hearing from people over the pond! The travel plan is to be in your neck of the woods for our next big one.

    I think you will soon regret it when you realize that Viltrox autofocus is so annoying , sigma is still the best auto focus,,Sometimes I use Viltrox and often fail to focus viltrox and sigma have good matching images and sometimes sigma is better, and sigma autofocus is still the best :)

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 3 місяці тому

      I've had the Viltrox for eight months now, and it's autofocus is amazing (especially with the AI chip of the a6700). For portraits the Sigma hasn't really got a chance against a 75mm F1.2, but it's great how light and small the Sigma is. Sigma is partly owned by Sony, but even with access to Sony's API I can't find any focus performance differences at F1.4 between the lenses.

    Had one on a eBay Fed3 and then used it on an XPro 2. The very tight focus was a real turn off. Very common problem. 61 l/d versión Mainly used the Fuji X-Pro 2 with Across jpg preset
