This is so interesting, I moved to Maplewood from St Paul, just as the Como Shops and Koppers Coke were winding down in 1978. I lived next to where the Maplewood police station was built on Stanich CT. And the Maplewood public works bldg was just built as we moved in. There were so many wooded areas in Maplewood then and it was a great place to be a kid

I grew up in the Village of Maplewood, long before "city water" came in from St. Paul. Wakefield Lake was always decent. I remember too when the huge tunnel/pipeline linking Wakefield Lake with Lake Phalen was built. Before the openings were secured, one could find 55-60 degree air deep inside the tunnel even in the winter.

The police and fire department are far too small and legistically it doesn't make sense either as that area is not surrounded by any businesses. No jobs are there! I live here and traffic is bad enough. We desperately need forrest and nature!
