I've been working as a professional mosaic artist since about 2005, and I created this channel for my students. But since I have it, I have begun posting short videos about my work, whether it's descriptions and explanations of my wall art, or tips, tricks and snafus, I will post here for anyone who might be interested. I am generally a low-tech person: an introvert living far from society-at-large on 5+ acres with LOTS of animals and two other humans. So, I present as me, as I am. You will rarely see me in my clips and I am definitely not working in heels with my hair done. My life is messy, ruled by poultry, dogs, cats, goats and a teenager. But I am constantly creating, making, working, and sometimes it's interesting to a broader audience. linktr.ee/jkmosaic
16 Days in Vietnam
Our total time was 18 days, but two of those were spent primarily getting to and from Hanoi, so our itinerary in Vietnam was really for 16 days:
-2 days in Hanoi
-3 days (2 nights) cruise in Ha Long Bay
-Back to Hanoi, then night train to Phang Nha
-2 nights in Phang Nha with 2.5 days
-Train to Hue
-2 days in Hue
-Van to Hoi An
-4.5 days in Hoi An
-Night train to Hanoi
-2.5 days in Hanoi before afternoon flight home
If I had it to do over, I might make a couple of changes:
-2 days in Hanoi was good. *We stayed at Ja Cosmo Hotel in the Old Quarter, and liked it very much.
-2 day cruise instead of 3. *We were the only guests who did 2 nights. Everyone else was delivered back to shore the second day, and we were put on a day boat alone with a crew to ourselves. I actually enjoyed this peaceful day of cruising around quieter areas of the bay, including about 6 km of kayaking with two crew members. Mike was a bit bored and would have preferred to spend that day heading to the next destination. So, this would be a matter of preference.
-Maybe add that extra day to Phang Nha? This was a favorite segment of the trip. I recommend staying at Karst Villas, which is on the edge of the small village overlooking fields with water buffalos. It is peaceful and quiet and beautiful. There's a very nice pool, a restaurant with excellent food, and the hosts were super personable and helpful. Wait to book your tours through them; it's easy and less expensive. We did a 9km jungle trek that was one of the toughest things we've ever done. And we did a 7km kayaking tour into Phang Nha cave with a 3km "hike" that was quite challenging. It is possible to walk into the cave and the most spectacular part was accessible on foot, but the kayak trip with bouldering and swimming was an adventure.
-Hue: We enjoyed a tour of historic sites and as a mosaic artist, I was thrilled to discover some unexpected and inspiring picassiette-style mosaic covering a mausoleum and an old palace in the Imperial City.
-Hoi An/Da Nang: drop to 3 days. We visited the Marble Mountains, with Buddhist temples and statues inside of caves; very cool. We did the My Son Sanctuary as an early tour, returning to Hoi An by lunch on our final day before catching the night train in the evening. Mike had clothes and shoes custom made, so it did help to have the 4 days. Hoi An is a lovely little town, but also extremely touristy, and we would have preferred one less day there. After a while, we were just looking for air conditioned places to sit and drink cold beverages to kill time.
-We took the night train back to Hanoi, which took 17 hours. On one hand, we slept on the train instead of paying for a hotel, and we enjoyed seeing the landscape. On the other, we could have spent about the same amount on a flight and gotten an extra half day to do something else.
-What we would have done with the time saved by shortening our Hoi An stay and flying back is to stay in Ninh Binh, probably in the village of Tam Coc. We did a day tour and it is absolutely stunning. I would have enjoyed spending more time there.
-We ended up with an evening and another half day in Hanoi before flying home. If we had stayed in Ninh Binh, we might have extended it so that we got transportation back to Hanoi on the same day we flew home.
So, the main advice I have is to favor Phang Nha and Ninh Binh if you enjoy peaceful settings, beautiful landscapes and physical activity. If you are more of a city person who likes bars and street food, you might be more inclined to favor Hanoi and Hoi An, and maybe even spend a night in Da Nang.
And of course, there are many more places that we weren't able to fit into our itinerary. If you have more time, just use this as a jumping-off point. We had an amazing time. Everyone was very friendly and it was easy to communicate. It's a really unique and beautiful country and Western money goes a long way, so you can do a whole lot with a small budget. Seriously, a beer runs around $1.25-$2. You can get a good meal for about $4. It's not good for the Vietnamese people, who work exceedingly hard for very little, but the money we spend does help them out. I hope you have a chance to visit Vietnam!

oh my i knew it was large, wasn't expecting that Beautiful achievement!!
Thanks, Alan!
I need to do something like this in my own bathroom - this looks wonderful!
You would do something stunning!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! That looks amazing.
Thanks!
I can only get my Briers to break a cut 50% of the time.🤷♂️
They are tricky. I like them for certain scores, but I still rely on my Dragons for most propagation.
Grouting sounds cranky. I could be wrong.
do you copper foil or lead work?
Nope, just mosaic.
May I ask. What program did you use to create the bird in mosaic section?
I draw my designs in Procreate on an ipad.
If you manage to teach her she has a HERS corner let us know how it goes!! 😂😂 Super crazy adorable 😍
Das curso en español. On line
Wonderful Video Jennifer! We are so happy you are enjoying them! -Ryan
I am learning so much. Thank you, Jennifer. I’m going to look at your monthly subscription. You are so talented so many ways.
Thanks, Judy! No pressure, it's a long-term game plan for me to use this as a way to just do the work I want to do while teaching and sharing. 🙂
I cannot imagine this. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Love the sound.
Great tip!!!
Thanks for sharing your process!

Thanks so much Debi!
Como se llama ese material de cuadros donde pegas los mosaicos
What a big beautiful bird! Obviously loved! ❤
He was amazing and unique. 😢💔
How absolutely appalling. You must be in terrible pain Jennifer and my heart goes out to you. I do hope the chicks survived and will bring you some comfort. 💙🩷🩷❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much. Yes, the chicks hatched on Mothers Day!
@@JenniferKuhns How lovely, I really hope they all flourish. So might you remember your lovely boy in glass? But maybe you’ve done that previously? I’m a new subbie and still working my way through your videos. I really love your work, as well as your attitude to life. Love from Moys in the UK
I am so sorry. I can't imagine the pain. More and more lack of care. He was so beautiful and I know felt your love.
So very sorry!
What a beautiful memory of your faithful Argos. 😢
Poor baby. Sending so much love and compassion to you and your family. How awful and heartbreaking. The neighbor's friend is a reminder of cruelty actualized. Chilling.. Argos looked like and always will be a special being. I enjoyed watching your peacock family time. Peace.
He was such a majestic gorgeous creature! My heart is so sad for you Jennifer... and his partner will be shattered too. Such a senseless thing to happen... 😮💨🥰😍
Yes, Hera looks for him and calls him. I'm counting on her being able to safely hatch their chicks. They are due on about the 10th.
How horrible. What an awful woman. I just don't understand people anymore. I'm so sorry for your loss. Pets are like family and are greatly missed. I hope you can persue legal action or at the least your neighbor will extend good will of some sort.
It's awful the callousness of your neighbour. Jennifer we are with you 🙏🙏🙏
Jenn, I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your dear boy, Argos. I know he brought you so much joy. What a beautiful creature. I hope your broken heart is soon filled with wonderful memories of your boy.
Lovely and inspiring. Sometimes when I do Glass on Glass mosaics the individual pieces end up cracking months after they are put into place... any logic to how to keep them from doing that? Appreciated greatly,
My guess would start with your adhesive. If your adhesive doesn't have "flex" after curing, it may contract and expand between panes with temperature changes. Next, I would want to make sure you are adhering to actual glass and not plexiglass, which could potentially flex. And if those boxes are all checked, I am not sure, but there is a limit to the size of pieces you can effectively use in GOG mosaic, so I wonder if some of your pieces are simply too large, and the stress coming from each side is causing fractures?
Thanks for this video! I ran into a similar problem with my cement mixer (different brand, but almost identical). I haven't opened it up yet to have a look at it, but I'm betting it's the exact same issue.
Good luck to you! If I had it to do over, I would just pay the extra and buy one already assembled.
Beautiful work
Thank you!
Stunning!
Thank you!
Such an honor to have met you! You are not only an incredibly talented artist, but an awesome soul.
Thank you, Patricia! I hope your job is going well and that we'll find time to work together again soon!
Amazing!
You have done any Christian Glass art, I'd love to see a stained glass cross of Jerusalem ❤️
I haven't. It's not part of my repertoire.
Very helpful! Thank you!
I'm so glad!

Thanks so much for sharing Jennifer. You are so good at sharing all of your tips on doing your mosaics. I truly appreciate you!
I guess, in the absence of in person teaching, this is how I connect. 🙂
Pease Jenny.Tell me what glue you use to attach cristal to the mesh. I love your videos.
I use thinset. Thanks for watching!
You are amaizing. Please excuse my English writing. You videos clarify me a lot.i qm just starting with mosaics.Thqnk you very much.
What is your first language? Halloween un poco Español. Yo se como dura lo es.
Ugh, auto-correct! Yo hablo un poco Español.
Si amiga!!!Es duro tratar de escribir otro idioma.Estoy aprendiendo un poco pero entiendo todo lo que dices en tus videos.🫡
Do you think you would be able to have this be a course in how you do this? I have been trying to learn Procreate and having the hardest time figuring it out. I think I would be willing to pay for this.
Beautiful pic by the way.
I should become competent with procreate before I try to teach with it. What you can't see here is that this is weeks of work with me getting stuck with a filter on that I can't turn off or working on the wrong layer for hours before realizing it.😂
