Thankyou for your comment. This is great that we can have open discussion about the word. Yes in some of these scriptures he is definitely talking about what happened in those past times. I believe Matthew 25:1-13 he is talking about a time to come, which has not happened yet. In Matthew 25:11-13 he talks about “we don’t know the day or the hour”. So it hasn’t happened yet. Matthew 24:36-44 talks about how the angels and Jesus don’t even know of the day of his return, only the father does. This has not happened yet, because we all clearly know when he came to earth. And he also talks about how 2 men will be in a field “one will be taken and another one left”. This also has not taken place. Thanks for your perspective. I appreciate the feedback. Matthew 25 is an indictment against apostate Jews, who were not going to be ready for the soon-coming destruction of Jerusalem. It talks about the day and hour of the day of the Lord, not a "return" of Jesus. All throughout the old testament, the day of the Lord was judgment. And God carried out other "days of the Lord" without leaving heaven at all....He carried out judgment on Israel, Egypt, Assyria, and the enemies of Israel all the time. The one taken in judgment and the one left, is entirely 1st century. If you read it, the whole thing is a local event that they could escape by fleeing to the mountains. And when they saw Jerusalem surrounded by armies (in a siege) they were instructed to drop everything and run, whether in the field or on the housetop. This is 1st century, not modern. And if someone could escape the danger by fleeing from Judea to the mountains, it certainly isn't global.

I do still believe there is portions in these chapters that point to his return for sure. But I do agree with you in some of these points that you made about some of it pertaining to that time. You do believe that Jesus is returning to earth though right?

@ I do, but I do not believe that the Olivet Discourse is referring to that, rather it is referring to His coming in judgment upon Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple, which happened within "this generation" as Jesus said it would - that is, the generation that He lived in.
