Fairness, Transparency and Accountability in Credit and Consumer Reporting
The information in consumer reports-including credit reports and background checks-is regularly used to determine if a consumer can get a personal loan or a credit card, a mortgage or an apartment, and even an insurance policy or a job. Accuracy and access to the information in consumer reports is critically important for consumers' economic well-being. During this virtual convening, panelists explore why complaints about consumer reports are swelling and what is being done to curb the abuses. Among the topics discussed are if and how recent regulatory guidance will improve reporting accuracy and transparency and prevent discrimination; changes in medical debt reporting; how new HUD guidance is helping protect rental housing applicants from discriminatory tenant screening practices; what practical steps consumers can take to help ensure that their reports are accurate; and how consumers can resolve problems with a consumer or credit reporting agency.

hi, is credit crads protected by covid 19 credit protection cares act ?
Here is info about what is covered under the CARES Act: www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/credit-protections-under-the-coronavirus-cares-act.html#:~:text=Under%20the%20CARES%20Act%2C%20a,the%20time%20of%20the%20agreement. It does apply to credit cards, but you must meet certain requirements, including having asked for and received an accommodation from the creditor because you were affected by the pandemic (for example, the creditor agreed to let you postpone payments), and not having been delinquent before that.
So, if a person has worked and paid in SS tax but it was figured that they did not have the right amount paid in when they retire. What happens to all that they did pay in? I have worked my entire life but became disabled at age 60. I was told I could not draw my regular SS because I did not have enough paid in. It seems that there were a couple of employers that did not pay the money they deducted from my payroll and now they are deceased. So I am stuck with SSI and SSA about to turn 70.
I’m very sorry to hear that you are in this situation. Since this is a legal issue (employers who withheld money for SS but kept it instead), you should reach out to local free legal services organizations, which you can find through LSC.gov (lsc.gov). You can also visit this Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) page (www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/how-do-i-find-an-attorney-in-my-state-en-1549/) for additional information about finding an attorney who can help you. Good luck!
Thank you for this great video! It would be helpful if the links that were listed at the end of the presentation could be added to the description of this video for easy access. Thanks again.

What a great discussion about this very important topic. Excellent panel and their presented information. I believe a great take away message is “people want to feel that you care”. We need to connect with this generation in an impactful way to build their confidence in the institutions that will deliver financial security and the individuals ability to use these tools. Thank you for an insightful discussion.

I have a question
Yeah, the programs are only for low income households. I live alone, I have a single income, I don’t make enough to be upper middle class or mid middle class, I’m on the lower end of the middle class bracket. I pay a house note for my home, I need a car to commute to my job so I have a car payment, insurance, fuel, food, water, garbage, etc. there are thousands that share my circumstance. It’s not right that they offer programs to help some but not all. Let me explain. Pg&E has priced gouged its customers, Pg&E keeps raising the prices on both gas and electric, they raised the prices of natural gas during the winter by 18%, and during a recession, this is disgraceful and an insult to all Californians. So the working folks like myself keep getting shafted and have to more more more every year, with no relief, no price drop and no programs to help us single income households out. PG&E is not only the highest price utility but is the most profitable utility. So how about dropping the prices for all PG&E and offering some of those great programs for all??? Your robbing peter to give to Paul, this is not right, this is DISCRIMINATION IN THE WORST WAY. Most folks during this hard economic time are living paycheck to paycheck and you all decide to raise the prices, we can’t afford it. We’re scrapping by, we scrape by and struggle and you create programs for those who don’t contribute. I understand people need help, senior citizens, handicapped, the sick all need help. But you are giving able body Californians who don’t work programs so they don’t have to pay or get extreme discounts. This is not right, us single income homes need some help, we all do. Will you PG&E do the right thing?? I’m already saying hell no you won’t, you won’t help at all, you all don’t care.
Thank you for the FYI today. A forensic counselor it was a good review.
Thank You
If we attended live, how can we get CE credit for this webinar?
Yes
This is great! Gives us some ideas about what we can do to reach more folks. One comment - you wanted to reach more people of color, but the new landing pages all show white hands...

You should mention that you don't investigate ANY complaints if the financial institute files litigation after your complaint is made. Banks know that. Consumers should know it too. Banks know that when they've made an error that is serious, not just an unwanted overdraft fee, all they have to do is file an emergency injunction to keep the complainant/victims entangled in litigation until the victims either give up and wave the white flag, or in the case of our relatives, they go bankrupt from $150k in legal fees incurred from the bank's litigation, and pass away from the stress after the litigation for 3+ years.

I I'm on State Medical insurance. I do work but I don't make a lot of money. I'm going to be having a knee replacement surgery in november. I applied for SSI last month just to help me out during the times that I'm going to be out of work for my knee replacement. My job doesn't have coverage unemployment coverage for that it's very small company. What's my chance of getting SSR just for a short time term
I'm on SSI because I was disabled in 2014. I just turned 62 and I want to draw my Social security. But they say that I can't because I haven't worked in the last five years.
Thanks for sharing Cynthia!
Can I draw my Social security or not.
I have been on SSI since 2014. They told me when I filed for it they said I couldn't draw my Social security until I was 62. I just turned 62 now I can't draw my Social security because I haven't worked for the last five years.
If you are in the SSDI program when you turn 62, you do not need to be concerned about removal from the program due to age. This is because the SSA assumes that if you had the capacity to perform your job, you would have worked until your full retirement age (FRA). Full retirement age (FRA) may be anywhere between age 66 and 67, depending on your year of birth. This works in your favor because nothing changes until you reach FRA. At that point, you will automatically be moved from SSDI to the full retirement program. (Source: www.medicare.org/articles/do-social-security-disability-benefits-change-at-age-62/)
Wauuuu, sooo sickening, they are criminals these agents.

What I know it supposed to be for anyone that was registered disable before the age 26 or 27 ? And a question is also can social security 🤔 help file a open bank account with the person on ssi to have a Able bank Account?
Use this website to find your state's agency dealing with ABLE accounts: www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/able-bank-accounts
Anyone know about the Able bank account that is allowed to Save more income in the bank than 2,000 ?
What about the Able Bank Account ?
How do they pay you in benefits back due you.
Generally, if SSA owes benefits they will payout in a lump sum. We suggest that you ceate a My Social Security Account. If you establish such an account, you will be able to see the amount of your benefits and when benefits will be paid.
Here is a good article on the issue from AARP: www.aarp.org/retirement/social-security/questions-answers/disability-back-pay.html
