    Is the image of the camera influenced by the lighting in my scene? The exposure is much too high so I guess that the camera component is not concidering the post process volume?

    • @UnrealDevHub
      @UnrealDevHub 6 днів тому

      Yes, the camera can have it's own unique exposure settings, and many similar settings that you will find on the post process volume. If you either use a post process volume, and set it to "Infinite" Distance (type infinite in details panel), and set the exposure from Auto-Exposure (Basic) to Manual, and set a manual exposure value, then it will not do the "auto light adjust" that it will do when you have auto-exposure enabled. So there are multiple approaches including auto exposure, post process volumes, or setting the camera settings on your cameras in the sequence to accommodate your environment lighting setup.

    • @UnrealDevHub
      @UnrealDevHub Місяць тому

      @eastgackle7441 The Niagara system is a component added inside the blueprint, in the component panel in the top left when you’ve opened the blueprint. Hit the “add component” button and select Niagara system component. To switch the Niagara system to a different asset, your select the Niagara component (in the components panel) and on the details pane on the right side of the page, you’ll see the Niagara system asset type, where you can swap for any other Niagara system you’d like.

    So this worked great for my stools, my only issue is that when the stools are sideways on the ground they stay in that position as I try to move them. How would you add a snap to vertical orientation for the stool? So that the stool floats the correct way in front of you?

    • @UnrealDevHub
      @UnrealDevHub Місяць тому

      @lga9046 When you pick up the actor (lock it into the “carry point”) in front of your player character, you’d want to add a SetActorRotation node with the Stool Actor as the target, and set that value to 0,0,0 to correct for whatever rotation has been previously applied. If you wanted to go one step further, when you interact with the stool, you could cache the original rotated orientation,then reapply that rotation value to the stool when you place it down on the ground again.

    • @lga9046
      @lga9046 Місяць тому

      @@UnrealDevHub Thanks! The reorientation code works well, I'm running into an issue with the stool connecting to the side of the player or sometimes behind the player, making it difficult to align your drop point. How would I go about locking it into the carry point? I have it hooked up to my hips, but the stool sometimes drifts off, even when I approach it frontally. I'd also love to be able to turn off physics temporarily on the stool while i'm holding it, as it bumps into real world items and then its own location gets messed up, sometimes flinging itself across the room.

    • @cincyswimmer513
      @cincyswimmer513 Місяць тому

      When you set the location of the Stool using AttachActorToComponent, use the option “snap to target” for the location, which will snap it to the attach point. I’d also consider making the attach point locked to the Root bone of the character so that it doesn’t bob when you run, unless you want that. To turn off the collision, add a function that sets the collision type of the mesh of the Stool (you should do it on the stool itself instead of on the player) and set it to NoCollision. Then reenable it later using the same set collision type node when you place the stool on the ground.

    Hi, very helpful video, thanks! Also quick question, why did you set up the material and then use it to create material instances, does it take up more memory space? is it possible to assign instanced material directly to the object?

    • @UnrealDevHub
      @UnrealDevHub Місяць тому

      Good questions! Yes - you can absolutely create a material instance that is reusable and assignable throughout your project by right clicking the material, and selecting “create material instance” and setting your parameters there. A lot of my followers have asked for info about how to dynamically set material attributes during runtime for a variety of uses, so this video is focused on that use. There are benefits and uses to doing it at runtime (for instance if you wanted to have dynamic material effects, color changes, value changes without specifically swapping the material in one frame) but if you want to reuse a material - absolutely just create a new material instance.

    • @glenzhang3646
      @glenzhang3646 Місяць тому

      @@UnrealDevHub Thanks for your reply, also I'm a bit confused when you assigned the newly created dynamic material back to the object's materials, will it replace the source material? Are you doing this to free up some memory space? In my own test, simply changing the stored dynamic material variable will do.

    • @UnrealDevHub
      @UnrealDevHub 2 місяці тому

      It'd be nearly identical actually! Because the BP_FirstPersonCharacter also inherits from the Character class, I believe the scripting would be exactly the same! As long as your character has some colliding element (like a capsule) that generates overlap events, it should be the same.

    • @UnrealDevHub

      In theory it should be the same - make sure that your material parameters are named correctly in your construction / BeginPlay script. Also make sure that you've made them Material Parameters by right clicking and selecting the option in the material graph. It should behave identically for all types of materials - opaque, translucent, masked, decal, etc!

    • @UnrealDevHub

      Adding an array element with the “Add” function automatically scales the array. “Set Array Element” allows you to set a specific array index, and gives you a Boolean (true/false) of whether or not to scale the array size if that requested index doesn’t exist yet. You can use “Clear Array” to reset the array index value and set the length to 0.

    @Unreal Dev Hub ... I'm really struggling. In the beginning you show stacking the boxes. I cannot do that as they don't have physics enabled, so they don't collide with anything. Additionally, I'd like it not to clip through walls so that would solve that problem to maybe? Any ideas. Thank you so much for the tutorial. Edit: If I enable sim physics the pick up does not work.

    • @UnrealDevHub
      @UnrealDevHub 3 місяці тому

      The "stacking" is done in the video using a line trace downwards from the AttachPoint, not using physics. If you enabled collision and used settings like BlockAll, that might solve your problem? Make sure Moveable is also set as the movability settings for the PickupObject StaticMesh component. Is the goal to hit the other objects in the environment with the box and create a physics reaction from them?
