      Sounds like you're going to have to explain it to her as well as to us and I came here and it didn't really help... maybe it did ? For the past few days I'm getting the weirdest sensation maybe two and a half 3 inches to the right of the navel where it actually feels like there's some air puffing it out very quickly like a spasm with no pain at all and maybe it lasts for like 2 seconds . ... so it's very hard to explain but I am worried and I can't stand going to doctors I mean I really hate going to doctors . ... even though there's no pain I'm worried as I have no idea what it means it's like almost like a strong pushing outwards only for a moment and then it goes back down that's why I call it a spasm because I can feel the muscle there lifting removing like some kind of spasm or pushing and then it comes back down as if it was a balloon or something that somebody was pumping air into very quickly

      @@nachobroryan8824 that's what I was wondering. I only looked this up because a recent news story from Texas is a doctor doing this to 13 year old kids and the mother was told by the daughter and he's now being investigated. They claim the doctor always did this and it was to check some issue, but the other doctors at the school didn't do this.

      It may be useful when equipment like dopplers are not available to assess a patient's general condition. A significant differential between the femoral pulse and popliteal pulse may indicate injuries to the vessels in the thighs. In contrast, an absent femoral artery may (rarely?) indicate a severe blockage that requires immediate surgical intervention. I can see its usefulness when rapidly accessing patients after trauma to the lower limbs or in cases of crush injuries. Personally, I've never done it and hospitals typically have more advanced equipment available rather than relying on palpation, but it may be more useful in em, mil, or sports medicine where rapid assessment is preferential.

    • @jvanek8512
      @jvanek8512 9 місяців тому

      @@Flight042 but it shouldn't be done as a general checkup on preteen to early teens at school without the parents knowledge or consent yes? That's why I looked this up since it's in the news and a doctor who did this on a mother's 13 year old daughter who is now being investigated.

    • @Flight042
      @Flight042 9 місяців тому

      @@jvanek8512 Well, all procedures are not allowed on minors without guardian consent except in the case of a minor who is pregnant, who has control over their child. In emergency cases, you have to get an officer to be sworn in as a temporary guardian if the guardian is unavailable. In general, though, palpation is not contraindicated by age, but certainly, care and tact are required in all facets of medicine. I am not informed about the case, but in general, medical procedures are judged by the standard of care of one's peers. This means that if an average doctor/nurse/medic/emt would have also undergone the same procedure when presented with the symptoms, carried out the procedure to the same extent, and the paperwork is in order, there is little to no chance of exposure. Furthermore, depending on department policy, witnesses or same-sex medical providers may be indicated in such cases when available.
