EV12L vs. Jensen P12N, Mesa Boogie MkIIA (1978)
The amp is a late 1978 Mesa Boogie Mark IIA 60/100W with Reverb and Graphic Equalizer (GEQ is off in this video). 60W setting used. The EV12L speaker is an old original one that came with the Boogie. The Jensen P12N is a modern version and sits in an open back Mesa cabinet from the 90's. The cabinet has almost the same dimensions as the MkIIA Combo (depth and width). Both speakers are frontloaded.
Sound recorded with Zoom H4n + Behringer B1 microphone. Each guitar track was pre-recorded with the guitar signal going straight into a Boss RC-3. Then tracks were played back through the amp + speaker setup for best comparability. No post-processing.
Guitars used:
(clean) Fender 50's Stratocaster MIJ w/ Fat 50's Singlecoils
(crunch) Epiphone Riviera w/ P-94's
Amp settings, clean:
Vol1: 6.5 (pulled)
Treble: 7
Bass: 4
Mid: 4
Master1: 2
Pres: 7
Reverb: 6.5
crunch, same settings but:
Treble: 7 (pulled)
Bass: 0
Mid: 7
Lead Drive: 5
Lead Master: 1.5 (pulled)
Reverb: 2

Berkley Springs (Don Ross cover)
Переглядів 71310 років тому
Quick cover of Don Ross' song Berkley Springs. The camera had bad positioning unfortunately. So, just listen :D I apologize for some mistakes I made concerning the timing. Recorded with a Zoom H4n & Behringer B1. Added some Reverb in Audacity. music by David Essig ; arranged by Don Ross.
The Sprinter (Isato Nakagawa cover)
Переглядів 90910 років тому
This time I did a short cover of Nakagawas "The Sprinter" to get in touch with some percussion styles. It is really fun to play. A beautiful little piece but the body-taps are hard to record properly with my equipment. Hope you like it. Equipment (as always): Tanglewood TW-70 into Zoom H4n and Behringer B1.
For Now (Andy McKee cover)
Переглядів 25110 років тому
Did a quick cover of Andy McKee's "For Now". I got a new mic and mixed it with the built-in mics of the Zoom H4n. I dialed in some reverb in audacity. There is some noise on the right channel of the built-in microphones i wasn't able to cut out. Sorry for that! Unfortunately you can't see the whole fretboard :-( As always I used my Tanglewood Sundance TW-70. Hope you like it.
Waiting (Calum Graham cover)
Переглядів 7 тис.10 років тому
This time i tried "Waiting" from Calum Graham. Used the tabs and watched the video to learn it. It took me some weeks and about 50 takes to record it and it's still not really good :D It's recorded with the built in mics of my Zoom H4n without an external pickup or microphone. I added some reverb in Audacity and thats it. Played with my loving Tanglewood Sundance TW-70. Hope u like it! To hear ...
For my Father (Andy McKee cover)
Переглядів 33410 років тому
I did another Andy McKee cover - "For my Father". Unfortunately not perfect again. The b-string is just hissing to much :-( And the overall sound is a little muddy. anyway. This time i used the built in mics of my Zoom H4n and a Dean Markley pickup mixed together. I also added some reverb in Audacity. The guitar is my Tanglewood Sundance TW70. Hope you like it!
Nakagawa San (Andy McKee cover)
Переглядів 36110 років тому
Did a short cover of Andy McKee's beautiful song "Nakagawa San". I made some little mistakes but I'm almost happy with it. Recorded it with my Zoom H4n without any additional microphones or pickups. It's all just the dry stereo signal recorded with the built-in mics. Used my lovely Tanglewood "Sundance TW-70" guitar. Ah yes! I actually didn't play the original outro.
Thanks for posting this! P12n's don't have enough testing online. When mine get to me I may post my own references too. Great video!
I like both speakers, but prefer the Electro Voice.
I'm not a huge fan of the P12N but it is a fine speaker. By which, I mean, it sounds genuinely vintage Jensen. The problem I think many people have with that is that it isn't as warm as a vintage Jensen and its TOO vintage sounding in the sense that it lacks a defined mid hump and tight bottom end and sounds like gash at bedroom levels because its not 100+db sensitivity.
alot of people probably dont break in the speaker, im using a Jensen P12R and it sounds nice & clean at bedroom levels, its perfekt for funk or clean playing, i havent heard a vintage jensen but the new one doesnt sound cold either imo
P12N*
Nice. P12N have a beatiful sound.
Jensen are the best ,more 'organic',sweet, nice than others. Belle présentation 👍 personaly ,I bought p12n..j'adore le son 'anilco'🎸🎶♥️
I'm surprise this video doesn't have more comments, it's fantastic I've got my JENSEN P12N coming.... i'll be running it with a Bad Cat head and I also have a Marshall origin 20 that I think will work excellent with it..... What I've noticed about the Jensen is the finger sensitivity especially when clean.... they call it the king of clean, I have to agree..... but I love the edgy loose bass end distortion is edgy which I love for my application.... it's great hearing a speaker that is broken in.... Great video
Beautiful playing, what model is your Tanglewood? It looks like the Sundance tw70
Nice comparison! I want to try Alnico Speaker.
The P12N now that I have had a chance to play it for a while has smoother distortion than what was on the soundtrack from jenson so I’m gonna run my C12N with it in a 212 cab should work out perfectly …..
Beautiful! Great sound and technic man!
The only thing Calum had that you didn't is a professional studio to do the recording. If your setup had the soundstage his had it would be amazing. Well done!!!!!
Awesome!!!!
it'sa standar tuning ?
You really played this piece fantastically. Great job! 👍
Flawless man!!! keep playing!!
Great melody!

Dios mio, me encanta. Lo haces de maravilla.
Incredibile. I N C R E D I B I L E
Well done. I liked this. Your tone was nice too. This piece is tougher than it seems like it would be. It took me a while to get it down too. Calum's tutorial video was a huge help. I think it is so cool of him to put out those "how to" videos. I would never be able to figure out some of the chord voicings otherwise.
freakin' AWESOME!!!
Complimenti, davvero fantastico!
Really amazing, looks very tough but you played it very well.
Nice playing sounds great :-)
That was honestly beautiful the tone is so much better than Calum's I got goosebumps when you started playing, Definitely a thumbs up from me mate
Super!!!
Total schön!!! Wie immer...:-D
Really didn't expected this was going to be that way. Outstanding. Note by note. Congratulations.
Awesome! Loved it mate. I also covered one of Calum's song =) please check it out when youre free! thanks
It sounds like you play it a halfstep up in this video o.o
Beautiful cover my friend. Sounds great. This is a difficult one to carry the beat well .
Great cover and great playing
Very clean playing :) !! Good job and thank you for commenting on my cover
"This time i tried "Waiting" from Calum Graham. Used the tabs and watched the video to learn it. It took me some weeks and about 50 takes to record it and it's still not really good :D " WTF???? "We are all imperfect, we are all humans" by: i have no idea :\
;;;;;;;;;;;;;) THAT IS MY BOY!!! haa, amazing play man!
Deff the best cover by far. Excellent guitar playing
thank you very much! :-) Hope I will have more time soon to make some other covers.

Hey Jordan! You can simply go to Calum's tutorial-video. He tells about the tuning in the beginning. It's from high to low strings: Eb ; Ab ; F ; Eb ; Ab ; Db Have Fun! ;)

Sorry pong5551. You can go to Calums website and spend some bucks for the tab. It's worth it and Calum deserves the credit. ;)
