My Target Bucks of 2024, My Best Season Yet
In this week's episode, I start it out with finishing off my food plot that I recently sprayed with Landt Aerial Solutions. I stick with Monster Buck Rut Greens, and I add a healthy dose of fertilizer to aid the seed. Meanwhile, I also detail my hit list of 2024, and go over how I am finding these bucks during the summer months. Deer season is right around the corner, and I can't wait to be back in the stand! As always, thanks for your continued support.

In this weeks episode, I end my two month long Hiatus and get back into deer mode. I check a few cards that I have put out in the last few weeks, and I actually make a new food plot. I dive into the process, and what I chose to do in order to keep this plot cost efficient, but still productive for the deer to utilize this fall. #DeerHunting #HuntingSeason #DeerSeason #HuntingTips #HuntingLife #...

In what was a roller coaster of a season, I finally capped it off by finding my target buck, "The Flyer Buck" sheds. After several days of searching, I was able to match up the set by one of my best stands from last season. I also go into depth on what made that stand so successful, and what I will do next year to ensure I have a better season. #hunt #hunting #whitetail

Skyscraper Buck. Boys brows are on mega level
With him living in the middle of the farm I’d name him Bullseye or 10 Ring!
Great looking bucks Ethan! Watch for the shift hope they all stay for you! great video.
For sure, I see a shift in their movement every year around September 5th. Velvet comes off and testosterone begins to ramp up. It will work itself out but it’ll be interesting to see how it works!
@@ethan_stubbs 100% you will have good bucks in there to hunt either way!
good to see ya Ethan! great start to the season brother.
Thanks for watchin Rob! Can't wait to hear what you're chasing this year!
Great video Ethan. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Art, have a great evening.
Looking forward to your next card pull and see how they finish out! Going to be a fun one, no doubt!
I'm pumped! I have some developing velvet footage that I think you guys will like!
Dang what a buck
Oh yeah, total Giant!
Your fall looks to be pretty exciting, I have some nice bucks already on my piece, great times ahead.
Definitely off to a good start. Excited to hear how your season turns out!
Looks like the same deer to me. Tall browes, wide. He's puttin on some inches! Good luck this year. I'm counting down the days to Oct 1st! Can't wait.
I'm right there with ya! Good luck this season.
I agree, not many 10s with that wide of a frame, he made an awesome jump from 4-5
4 1/2 years old
It will be a fun fall!
@@ethan_stubbs it’s definitely looking up for you this year
Agreed. I was so close last year, hopefully I can punch a tag or two this fall!
@@ethan_stubbs same here buddy
I have a 1/2 acre corn field that has some bare spots and thin areas any ideas for what seed I can broadcast into the corn for added attraction and to fill in the gaps? Love the videos very informative! Thanks
Lee, thanks for watching. I would recommend going in with the overcast food plot seed from MonsterBuck. It works great in areas with crop damage. One thing to keep in mind is if they have recently sprayed any pre-emergents on the field. Definitely worth the conversation with the grower before you go and spend a bunch of time prepping the spot! Hope that helps, have a great day.
Great video. I absolutely love this time of year. Can't wait to see what that big boy turns into and hopefully your other targets bucks show back up as well! Good luck this fall!
Fingers crossed! Good luck this season 👊🏻
@@ethan_stubbs Thank you!
Let’s go dude. Going to be an incredible adventure ahead!
Looking forward to the grind!
Good stuff! As always. Few short months 👊🏼
Let’s go! Pumped for it, good luck this season 🔥
Great video Ethan, best of luck this year!
Thanks for the support! Have a great season!
Would like to see which bucks stay versus move to a different home range, summer versus fall range. Nothing I see this time of year is around during hunting season. But that’s on a 60 acre property.
I think a lot of that has to do with hunting pressure and acorns. I didn’t get the flyer buck on camera until September 20th last year, so I’m sure he summers somewhere else. The wide buck is a complete surprise. I didn’t have him on camera at all last summer.
Last year was a difficult year in Iowa with the drought, poor food plots, and in general hunting deer. From the looks of my trail cam photos, as well as my friends, and yours, this season could be productive! Great content and looking forward to the season and more videos!
Agreed. Many elk hunters swear that wet years lead to more significant antler growth. I was just listening to a podcast with Don Higgins and he claimed that this may be the best growing year he has ever seen. I think there are a variety of factors that go into antler growth. Post rut nutrition, severity of winter, stress, and excessive rains are all factors that play into a deer having the best potential for antler development. Thanks for watching!
I’ll have to listen to Don’s podcast. Those factors for great antler development and growth are definitely in play this year!
Absolutely. To listen to someone with his experience talk about how good this season will be is awesome. I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing it!
The Central Buck!
I am terrible at naming deer, I guess whichever comment has the most likes will get the crown!
@@ethan_stubbs Any name will stick. I call mine the Sarah buck, Tate buck, and the Lake buck. Landowners and location.
For sure, a lot of people have been calling him Double Splits. That might be easy enough for me to remember!
@@ethan_stubbs Double splits it is.
Great hitlist so far Ethan, cant wait to see the stories unfold.
Thanks for watching! I'm hoping these deer and plots finish the year strong! I'm already looking forward to October.
Ethan, good stuff bro. Will you be filming for Bill this year or spending more time hunting
I won't be spending any time filming Bill this year, hopefully I get to spend a lot of time with the bow in my hands! Thanks for watching.
@@ethan_stubbs Awesome! More time in the woods could lead to more success. Looking forward to seeing that work pay off
Good stuff Ethan!
Thanks brother! Have a good one.
Interesting irony wearing a HTHP shirt. For what it is worth, I appreciate your nature of deer hunting and habitat improvement over just their taking. Apples and Pineapples. I would like to hear your takes, after your time with Bill and becoming a realtor on what property (hunting) attributes you value the most .
Thanks Garrett, I appreciate the support. I have been a big THP fan since the beginning of their channel. I really enjoyed watching them on MW, so it was an easy transition for me to follow when they made their own page. I actually got to film Ted & Jake on a turkey hunt once and I have nothing but great things to say about those guys. Every channel has their own style, I try to mix in a healthy dose of deer management, tactics, and hunts to try and keep it entertaining! In regards to your second question, I believe the composition of the farm is extremely important. Many buyers today want to see income producing acres, and spots to plant food plots. That significantly impacts the property value. Another key attribute to any property is the access. Nothing kills the value of a farm like bad access. In my opinion, those are the two most important pieces of any hunting farm. Hopefully that answers your question, have a great day!
How many properties do you have permission on? And what are the sizes of the properties? As always thanks for bringing us along I like ur editing style, or whoever edits for you.
Canes, I have permission on 4 different properties currently. They range from 40 acres to 350 acres. Only one of those is "exclusive." During the season I try to keen in and focus on one property, while running cameras and scouting the other properties on my "off-days." This definitely leads to a busy fall, but my goal is always to hunt the most mature deer I can find. Thanks for the nice comments, I have edited all of my own videos since I was about 15 years old. At the start they were horrendous, but my time at Midwest Whitetail really sharpened my skills! Have a great day.
Killer setup. Hope that flyer buck shows back up soon.
Thanks Matt, I can't wait to get him on camera. Have a great day
Top notch editing!! Get it Ethan
Thanks Wes!
This is really intriguing Ethan! Thanks for sharing and putting this together!
Thanks Aaron, Im excited to get to work for this fall!
Very cool idea. Difficult access no more.
Thanks for watching, I’m excited to see effective the seeding technique will be. Have a great day.
That's pretty slick. I have a one acre food plot that at times is almost impossible to get to due to road flooding. This would be a great option for those type scenarios. Well done!
Oh yeah, any time access is an issue this could definitely be the solution. I’m going to try the monster buck overcast mix over some of the corn if there is any crop damage. My good friend Rye from Midwest whitetail did that last year and he said it turned into a killer setup.
Nice video Ethan. Keep at it.
Thanks for watching!
That was super cool!!
Thanks for watching!
Now that is pretty darn interesting! Thanks for showing us this Ethan. Best of luck this fall.
I thought so too. Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice work. An absolute cool application of drone technology. I couldn’t agree more 👊🏻
Glad you enjoyed it! Have a great weekend
I got a ag drone in this year to spray my 4 acre corn plot.. works great!
It was a cool process. I’m looking forward to using that more!
Great video! Ethan were you aware of the Tesla symbol in the crop at the start of the video.
Neither do cell cameras, cameras, salt licks, kill plots, feeders , 3D Deer, Deer calls, Doe estrous, etc. but it's here and to each his own. The video was about spraying crops with a drone not hunting with a drone. My God, what is this country coming to
No I wasn’t! Good catch.
Thankfully we live somewhere that we are able to voice our opinions on these topics. I really wanted to provide some value to my audience with this video and increase the amount of deer management in today’s world! Have a great weekend
@@ethan_stubbs I posted that comment under the guy that responded about the drone shouldn't be in the hunting woods. I'm not sure how it landed under my post. I saw a drone used for spraying crops not hunting, scouting, or observation flights and I'm cool with that. I thought his comment was unwarranted and out of context...This wasn't the video for his comment.
Yep, I figured that was the case! Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!
Drones belong nowhere in the hunting industry, Sorry its just too much.
I would probably agree with that. Some of the technology that is around today just makes it an unfair advantage for the hunter. I don’t think what we did is giving us an unfair advantage. All I’m hoping to do is provide the deer with some form of additional food to supplement the diet. Even if I don’t hunt this spot at all, if I can provide a better life for the deer I would be happy with that. Thanks Bucky, I hope you have a good weekend!

@@Woodland-Gangsta "what is this country coming too" ... listen to yourself "Gangsta"
@@buckydoedowner9040 Try adding the first name as it was intended. What I don't sound like is a wildlife authoritarian on a video about killing weeds via use of drone. Try staying within the context of the video sir. We have wildlife agencies to dictate what is legal or illegal
What difference does it make if you use a drone, a tractor or a back pack sprayer. Tree stands provide a lot more advantages than using a drone for food plots.

Ethan, where have you been son? That pull behind mower was a first for me. It got the job done. 😂
That thing is a work horse! It did way better than I thought it would. I was impressed
do you have an update on that clover kill plot soon?
Yes, I will post an update video sometime this week. Thanks for watching!
Ethan i’m really looking forward to follow you this season. Just want to maybe let you know something about spraying. This is something i learned by failure. Be very careful spraying a freshly cut field. Plants go into a very hardy regrowth period after being cut. In many cases weeds can survive a GLY spray because they are in overdrive trying to grow back what you cut. If this happens and the weeds survive the spray they have a high chance to become GLY tolerant and won’t be able to be killed by GLY. Next time i would advise waiting a week or two before burning it off with GLY. Maybe if you notice certain plants surviving you can make a “hot” batch of spray with a back pack sprayer and burn those plants off. Or use a different chemical like 2,4d or butyrac those 2 will kill broadleafs only. Clethodim will kill grass only but mix with crop oil so it binds to the plant. Hope this helps buddy! Good luck this season.
Thanks for the solid advice. This was really helpful. After the first spray, I did get a really good kill. I wish I would have mixed some sort of a residual in with the spray. One of my good friends is an agronomist, so I’m sure he would have had some sort of recipe I could have put together. I visited the plot a few days ago and it is still primarily dead. I will spray it with 2 4D or GLY once more before tillage.
@ethan_stubbs 2 4 D will leave a residual in the soil and may affect what your planning on planting
Gotcha. All I plan on planting is brassica and clover so I will have to look into that to see if it will affect it in any way. Thanks for watching, Have a great day
@@ethan_stubbs i never heard that before about 2,4-D being an issue post spraying as it is considered a post emergent spray and not a pre emergent spray. But maybe look into it some more. Not saying he’s wrong i just never heard that before. You might wanna use a surfactant with 2,4-D as well should you decide to. Like i said though you also can just respray GLY or there’s always butyrac.
@tim03b_48 with a light rate you'll most likely be fine, but at heavier rates it can have some effects
Great to see ya. You doing stuff for bill still?
Not as much this year. We are still great friends, and he has been nothing but a positive role model for me. I may still help him out behind the camera from time to time!
Will continue to watch! Good stuff!
Thanks Aaron, I appreciate the support!!
That farm with the river looks very familiar to one I hunt in WI. You think the bucks are good now, hold on!
Should be a fun fall!
Are you not working with Bill winke anymore?
I may help him out behind the camera a little bit this fall, but all of my content will be posted here!
Dog days of spring... Summer starts tomorrow, but it sure seems like it's been a long, hot summer already 😊
Haha, all of my dads seem to blur together this time of year. The only thing I know is I’m ready for deer season!
Great content Ethan, looking forward to this fall.
Thanks Mitchell, I appreciate the support!
Hey man big fan of your videos, just a tip I have once you mow you'll get a better and quicker kill if you wait a week after bush hogging. The plants go into a mode I guess you call it once they're in trauma and don't take in the chemical like they would if they weren't cut prior to spraying. But just a thing that helps me man. Killer content goodluck this fall.
Thanks for the advice! I went in the next day and sprayed and got a really good kill. I wish I would have added a residual to what we sprayed, so I may have to touch it up once again before we till it to plant. I’m thinking brassicas in that plot.
Nice video.
Thanks for watching Lonnie. Have a great day
Excited to see what shows up this fall!
Me too! Good luck this fall
I gotta be honest from what I've learned food plotting for a while now especially if I'm going for best yeild and least money is plant late summer like after Aug 15th and before labor day most of your competition from weeds in gone you don't need to waste money on herbicide after it's established because most of the weeds have ran their course for the year as long as you get some rain or have a way to do some watering this works way better imo
That’s a great idea. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll have any way to water a plot in the terrain that I hunt. Over the past 3 years it seems that we have gotten several good rains during the 3rd week of July. That’s what I’m going to aim for to plant these brassicas.
