WROR segued into WBMX "Mix 98.5" in February of 1991.

Ed Williams was an extremely well known and well respected announcer at WLIB-FM, a jazz station based in Harlem in the late sixties and early seventies. His delivery perfectly suited that format. He was very close to Miles Davis. After WLIB changed formats to urban contemporary Williams and most of the popular jazz staff left. He went through a variety of location changes. I knew him in that special period. He was one of the best. His smooth style was the opposite of what was heard on pop 40 radio.

Interesting listen! I had not yet begun to walk upon the face of the Earth, but would begin to do so shortly!

The Top 100 of 1975 sounds great!

FYI, 1) B96 was the more dance/Rythmic focused station than Z95. They even had mix parties and dance shows (particularly on the weekend). Wasn't Julian Jumpin' Perez one of B's mix DJ's?? Z95 had none of this and did a little of everything. Rock, Hair bands, mainstream Top 40, a little dance, etc... 2) WLS-FM has NEVER had their calls on 95.5. 94.7 (WLS) was an ABC affiliated station, now Cumulus. 95.5 around this time was Metromedia IIRC and is now iheart. Around the time WLS became WYTZ (Z95), 95.5 was WMET (The "Mighty Met"), WRXR for a short period, then became WNUA smooth jazz for the longest time with a brief sting as a mexican/spanish station, before being flipped to WEBG (a country competitor for WUSN), and is now currently WCHI, a rock station again.

I was a young dj at kuki in ukiah when i met JM. What a thrill. His kind and inspiring words propelled me to work in radio for over 3 decades.

I had to do a double take and rewind a few times at around 4:15. Earlier in the video I heard Oak St Beach and thought, cool, I remember that beach. Mind you, we moved from Illinois in 1980. The bit that got me was the mention of Hangover Park, specifically Barrington & Irving Park Rds. My parents moved to the burn in 68 from the city when I was a wee lad of 3. We were a block away from Barrington and I spent most of my childhood riding my bike or walking up to IP for little league, Tradewinds cinema, Tri-Village and everything else. Just a cool bit of the past for me.

Bill Bailey was part of the original Real Oldies on AM 1480 in Grand Rapids. I was heartbroken when i heard he passed away. I loved listening to him in the mornings on the way to work. Bob Mason dedicated his Top 40 show that weekend to him and he broke down on the air. I miss his voice and his personality. He was great.

Old WABC Pams jingles redone for WNNNNNBC. Did you know the format was going away i less than two months at this time?

I loved Jocko back in the day. He was a total original. What I remember most is his playing After School Rock by Pancho Villa Orchestra after his classic Rocketship intro.

I won a prize from the Gary McKee morning show. The album "Time Passages." When I went to pick it up at Tower Place in Atlanta, I was able to watch Gary perform the morning show in real time. It was brief but very enjoyable. Just more good times with Good Time Gare.

Gary was a wild animal, just like me back in the late 70's. But he cleaned up, got married and had two boys. Sadly, one boy was killed in a gun accident at their home. I kinda lost touch with Gary after that. Gary was absolutely the very best and I still miss him.

In 1976-77, Gary would host 94Q parties in various places and I would attend and make a fool out of myself. Just more good memories of Gary McKee. At one point Gary lived next door to my hi school friend on South Cobb Parkway. That was just an accident. We really didn't know who Gary was at the time.

I won a contest and it resulted for Gary, Willis and Yetta to visit my work place. Around 1986. It was great. Gary was at his best back then. The company was Keystone Press in Chamblee, Ga. Wonderful memory.

An interesting technical thing I have heard about The Time Machine on WNBC was that they used a huge plate reverb unit at the transmitter site, much like WABC did, to give that deep reverb (echo) effect. You could often hear them switch it on just before the Time Machine would start at midnight during the last few words of the promo or last commercial.

Thanks for posting, I used to love listening to this show back when I was on Long Island, and first collected vintage radios! I believe Jack Scott was the DJ on the Time Machine and Larry Scott was the newscaster, and also the bodybuilder was another Larry Scott.

How awesome 68 RKO was the best. I was 11 years old in 1974 had RKO on daily.

Those were the best radio songs I´ve ever heard in Miami !!! Y-100 who´s the 100 listener ??? Y100 !!!!

They sounded a bit better in the mid 1980’s when they had JAM Flamethrower jingles, and commercial free Sundays. All in AM stereo! Their competitors 1050 CHUM and 1150 CKOC sounded great back then also…

Just came across this after doing research and thought it was cool. I recently just bought a gold 1971 340 Plymouth duster and it has a sticker on the dash that says wava FM 105 VIP and it has all kinds of crazy mods, like a old Panasonic Soundsystem and a bigger cassette radio, it’s kinda cool gives it a little bit of a mystery if it was a station workers or a big fan if anything it just gives the car more personality

The air date is actually Wednesday, February 24, 1965.
