Well, I found this video as I had the same problem and was looking for a solution. You’d have thought that wherever there were cogs and tracks, the design would enclose them. Sadly not. It is a pain to remove the wheel etc and it only happens when you’re in the middle of a job. I’ll try this fix. I have some of the roofing rubber so I’ll let you know if it assists. Thanks for posting, without that tip, I’d have still been scratching my blood head! W
Where can I find this? I can’t seem to find anything on Amazon or anywhere
I have one in my basket ready to go. Ive watched about 8 different reviews and all say the same about the pedal plate. Other than that I think I'm convinced to place my order.
I spent 6 months of my apprenticeship in the 1960’s, learning how to, and doing a large amount of scraping, the technique I was taught is quite different to yours, and the finished product was a seagull effect, like you will see on old machine tools. We scraped at a lower angle than you demonstrate, and also turned the scraper during the stroke. Good idea though with the replacement tips, you could have a few pre made so when doing a big job, to just change the bit rather than having to re grind every so often would be a big time saver.
I know it’s been ages since this video but would this come with hard mount bolts for pedals and base?
Boutta use this to tag 😂🖊️
Thanks.. I need to use this on a crankshaft, but piling it of from the tin just isn't working! Diluting it will work so much better..
hey!, amazing video, already helped me alot. I have however found a weird problem; the screen of the vfd (Same as you have) Starts flashing all the leds and the display, when pressing any button a counter goes up, I have no idea what is wrong but i canot get it back to the normal screen to adjust the settings. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks in advance!
I have no idea, that's not something i've experienced but it certainly doesn't sound normal.
@@ImpracticalMachinist thanks for the reply, can't find any information about it either, messaged the seller so fingers crossed they can help me😅, keep up the good work!
Sorry it's not much help, I tend to think that if everything is flashing and nothing works it's probably faulty. But check back in and let me know because it might be of help to someone else.
@@ImpracticalMachinist il let you know what I find out!
I found out the issue, it seems i messed something up and fried the motherboard, after switching to a different motherboard of the vfd its up and running again!
They should rename it Fanatec Ready2notsupplyyourgoodsorreply
Does the ready to race pack come with a table clamp?
The wheelbase doesn’t come with a table clamp included, they’re €29.99 to buy.
Ok thanks
It's not a high end wheel it's only 119.00 us
Yep, and it’s a lovely wheel for that price too.
Thank you for this! Your explanations were helpful, and links to the Google docs were and added bonus.
what is this pigment?
The pigment is gentian violet, it’s messy stuff though.
@@ImpracticalMachinist cant find where to buy it in my country, i will try with marker ink
Which country are you in? I bought mine from a company called APC Pure, they do ship internationally, I’m not sure how much that would cost.
whats that contraption that adapts the starrett surface gauge to the microcator?
It’s a couple of attachments borrowed from a dial test indicator set, nothing special or proprietary.
Can you add a link to the replacement plug that you used? Thanks!
The one I bought isn’t on eBay any more, but this one looks pretty similar; www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272258660288?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=SZcXUAHpRc6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=xOFdZ7cNTze&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
@@ImpracticalMachinist Thanks much!
Out of curiosity, why didn’t you just use shrink wrap?
How's the custom 200w power supply been going for you? Ordered my bundle last week and wanted to copy you with the upgraded power supply..150 quid for the fanatec one seems a bit outrageous
It’s working just fine, and I expect it will continue to do so seeing as there’s a bit of headroom. Outrageous is exactly right, I know they have margins and all that but it’s just a power brick.
Good video man . Would like to see how your workshop turned out
It's still a work in progress, we ended up doing a load of work on the house so the workshop became a storage room for a few months.
I understand that you were making and selling these now? Where might I purchase one? Or maybe I could trade it for a can or two of rust preventative? Oh the rust on your tools... the poor tools!
I still am there just hasn't been a full batch made for a while. If you're in the UK just send me a message and i'll make one up for you, otherwise you can head over to my ebay store and message me there. Rust? The workshop is climate controlled these days, no more rust for me!
@@ImpracticalMachinist Will do.... and you should go back and rerecord all your old videos so those of us who are oxidaphobic (I made up a new word just for the occasion) don't go into spasms and start scheduling a tetanus jab when we watch your vids. 😁😆😆🤣🤣 Keep up the great videos!
Which seat do you use? It looks pretty comfortable.
I've got an autostyle seat, I can't remember which model but it's their wide version and It's mostly comfortable but if you have broad shoulders it might be a tight fit. Unfortunately it's sprung rather than solid fibreglass and a bottom mount rather than side mount for the rails which makes reclining it a matter of making up a custom bracket, so that's something to look out for.
did you get stung for TAX when ordering in to the UK From Fanatec??
I had to pay tax on the purchase, but if you set your location to the UK on the Fanatec website it'll subtract the VAT from the purchase price, so it worked out slightly cheaper than buying inside the EU.
Thanks for the reply @@ImpracticalMachinist i ended up payin £91 extra for what i purchased, your right the price works itself out and still a good deal on the bundle right now.
Would be good to see that full video of making a compliant block now :D
Wouldn't it! Unfortunately the workshop is full of the contents of our loft at the moment so I can't even get out there to work, never mind making videos.
I must say within EU GT omega deliver pretty fast . I'm going to put together mine today .
It certainly was informative Thank you 😊
I'm glad you found the video helpful.
Thank you. I have been trying to use that engineer's blue as a layout fluid for the last year.
Well if you want layout dye i've got a video for that as well!
Hi thanks for the informative video please if you have a sketch of wire connections to the Jc-240-24 power unit
Thoes 2 screws in the buten is not Earth.
I am the proud owner of the "Oh no, it's on fire" limited edition hand scraper that you made. It's a fine bit of tooling and will be featuring heavily in some of my forthcoming videos. More power to your elbow! (Especially when scraping). 👍
That's great! I can't wait to see how you get on with it!
@@ImpracticalMachinist I used it in this one, it did a fine job 👍 ua-cam.com/video/z0ACMMm-ZGc/v-deo.html
😊😊
Bruh, why are there two flesh arrows (i.e. penis) on your clip board hang'n on the wall behind you?😂
I installed my spindle without the controlling board. My "u" was connected to 1, "v" to 2 and "w" to 3 (the spindle supplier told me this). When I start the spindle with the button "run" it runs, but then all light (com, alm, dsp, run, hz, rpm) blink very fast and i cannot stop or adjust the rpms. Does anybody had the issue? Has it something to do that i dont have a break resistance or is just the wiring wrong?
The best water free hand wash I have found is the gunk we have all been using during COVID. About %95 of workshop stuff comes off and you wipe off with a rag that you get to reuse, unlike baby wipes.
That's a good point, i'll have to stash a couple of bottles down the workshop.
How long from ordered to it being delivered?
Less than a week from ordering to delivery.
Hi, what did you use for the monitor mount bracket, anything specific?
It was a generic monitor arm from Amazon, one that mounts to either a desk or a wall, and I just bolted through the wall bolt holes. It’s a decent enough solution, but if you have the option I’d go for a solid mount.
Not real carbon but still looks super real and I love my thermalold one more than my more expensive wheels lol
Yeah it’s a great wheel though I did sell it in the end.
Great video my guy 👍🏼
Thanks.
Is the narrower handle as comfortable as the wide one?
It’s entirely personal preference, I find a broader handle a bit more comfy for the longer scraper but the narrower one for a shorter scraper where I’m actually holding the handle.
Nice video 👌 looking into getting this but do you think the pedal tray will struggle with the huesinkveld ultimates 🤔
I don't think it'll struggle as such, and if you're bolting them to the Heusinkveld base plate then that'll stiffen the whole thing up considerably anyway.
How is it holding up so far? Thinking of getting one. And is the QR upgradable?
Fanatec have just released a new quick release which is supposed to be good. However I’ve been using the mclaren wheel with the original “quick release” and it’s been fine, though if I were using a stronger wheelbase I would probably upgrade. As far as I can tell the quick releases are all interchangeable, it’s only six bolts to change one out.
Fantastic thorough review. Just noticed you seem to be running your rig via laptop? Care to post the specs please.
Thanks! I do run off my laptop because I move the sim about a fair bit and it works pretty well. It’s an HP Omen 17, so 17” 165hz monitor, I7 11800H, RTX 3060, 16gb ddr4 and a 1TB ssd (though I’ve added a second to keep the sim separate from the operating system).
Is it easy enough to fit a different seat to the rig? I'm looking at a 3rd party seat instead of a gtomega seat
It’s pretty straightforward, especially if you’re going for a side mount seat.
Super helpful tip, thank you!!
Just bought some of this looking for why it wasn't drying now I know why
I have the very same thing but mine wont dry.
That’s because it’s not supposed to, I do have a video about layout dye which does dry out.
So I guess I need to apply a veri thin layer like you showed in the video. I also have a fast drying red but I've never used it. Thanks
Are you bluing up for scraping?
@@ImpracticalMachinist I'm building an ATC BT30 spindle. I'll check the taper with it after grinding.
How did you mount CSL pedals to the GT Omega Prime Lite plate? Any photo?
I didn’t test the pedals as while they’re nicely built with enclosed hall sensors and a decent heel plate, they’re still essentially budget pedals and a big step down from the ones I already have fitted.
@@ImpracticalMachinist Just what I did see people have issues with those and gt omega plate. Just the holes do not match.
The heel plate bolts should align with the slots in the plate, as they’re the same width apart as the fanatec clubsport pedal mounting points. It also looks like GtOmega have produced an adapter plate specifically for the csl pedals: www.gtomega.co.uk/products/fanatec-csl-pedal-adapter
@@ImpracticalMachinist and the price is ridiculous for what it is.
I couldn’t produce and sell a plate like that for less, and make money. And if you have the tools then it’s a no brainer to make your own.
The pedal plate isnt the best thing here, but you should use way more screws to mount the profiles to it.. I would probably use 2x 120 or even 160 profiles nad for sure it would be way better.
More bolts here aren’t going to help because the problem is that the sheet used to form the plate is too thin to provide enough stiffness in the middle of the plate. The solution for me was to use a piece of angle iron underneath the plate that is wide enough that it almost reaches the sides, it’s not a perfect solution but it dramatically reduces the flex in the plate.
ßo what was the slowest feed speed? I saw one video where he could go to zero and stop the travel so there was no real minimum and another where they couldn't get it to run slow. How was yours?
I can set the dial to zero and it’ll stop, but minimum actual movement speed is probably half inch a minute, give or take, but I can’t check it at the moment so don’t take that as gospel.
Woo I get a mention 😀
I was going to ask you to be in it! But you know how long it takes me to film these things.
That is a brilliant use of the ball tip on a surface gauge. I've never seen anyone with that idea. I don't have a surface gauge with a bumper and have been looking for a bargain squareness comparator without much luck. With the trick you just showed us, I can now move the squarness comparator much farther down on the priority list.
I’d love to claim the credit for that, but I’m pretty sure that I saw Tom Lipton do it. That gives me an idea, I reckon I’ll have to make a few comparators and put them up for sale.
Hello. Did you ever had an error # ER-04?
I don’t believe so, though from what I’ve read it may be the ramp time settings that cause that problem assuming your spindle is good. There was a thread where it turned out that the posters spindle was cooked.
Mine was delivered yesterday had the same issues as you. Cuts 2mm steel allyand brass with ease, I did try cutting some 3mm steel laser cit parts (the tabs and it nipped them off no worries. I need to now decide how to fixing down
I haven't got mine permanently mounted, I just clamp it down to a workmate for the moment and it holds on just fine.
4:41 - How is the dial indicator sung and tight mounted to surface gauge holder? Does the knob tightens both the stand post and the dial indicator shaft?
Yes, the mounting hardware tightens against the shaft on the holder and the shaft on the gauge simultaneously.
