The courts decided that the estate (lake etc) that the monastry presented as its own, belonged to the greek state. there were also some other trials, one lost for the monastery and one semi-lost. Στις 24 Οκτωβρίου 2014 συζητήθηκε στο Τριμελές Εφετείο Κομοτηνής η τύχη των εκτάσεων της Βιστωνίδας,[26] η οποία κατέληξε το Δεκέμβριο του 2015 με την έκδοση της απόφασής, η οποία απέρριψε την έφεση της μονής Βατοπεδίου και συνολικά την αρχική αγωγή της εναντίον του Ελληνικού Δημοσίου με την οποία διεκδικούσε την ιδιοκτησία 27.000 στρεμμάτων στη λίμνη Βιστωνίδα.[27] ... ΚΑΙ ΠΟΛΛΑ ΑΛΛΑ. Με αυτή την έκταση που δεν ήταν δική τους έκαναν την ανταλλαγή με το Δημόσιο. Εν τω μεταξύ για αυτή την έκταση έπαιρναν μισθώματα από το Ελλ. Δημόσιο. Αν τα μισθώματα ήταν μη νόμιμος πλουτισμός ίσως να έχουμε (λόγω off shore Μονής) και ξέπλυμα μαύρου χρήματος.
