How Atoms Are Defying Gravity in NASA's Cold Atom Lab
Переглядів 1121 день тому
NASA’s Cold Atom Lab studies the quantum nature of atoms, the building blocks of our universe, in a place that is out of this world - the International Space Station. This animated explainer explores what quantum science is and why NASA wants to do it in space. Quantum science has revolutionized our understanding of the physical world and led to new technologies including cellphones, computers,...
Zoom into the interacting Penguin and Egg galaxies
Переглядів 282Місяць тому
This video takes us on a journey through space to the interacting galaxies known as Arp 142. The distorted spiral galaxy at the centre, the Penguin, and the compact elliptical galaxy at the left, the Egg, are locked in an active embrace. A new near- and mid-infrared image from the James Webb Space Telescope, taken to mark its second year of science, shows that their interaction is marked by a f...
A Tour Of The Serpens Nebula
Переглядів 282 місяці тому
This video tours the Serpens Nebula, a star-forming region that lies 1,300 light-years away from Earth. A new image of Serpens from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope shows an intriguing group of aligned protostellar outflows within one region of the nebula. Protostellar outflows are formed when jets of gas spewing from newborn stars collide with nearby gas and dust at high speeds. This region i...
SpaceX Starship Test Launch 4 - Highlights
Переглядів 2073 місяці тому
On the fourth flight test, Starship took off once more from SpaceX's Starbase facility along the shores of south Texas at at 8:50 a.m. EDT on Thursday June 6. The vehicle made it through booster separation before Super Heavy made a successful soft "landing," splashing down in the Gulf of Mexico. After a fiery reentry, Starship made a successful landing burn before making its own splashdown in t...

See Ingenuity’s Flight Map 72 Helicopter Flights on Mars
Переглядів 1574 місяці тому
NASA’s Ingenuity Mars helicopter became the first vehicle to achieve powered, controlled flight on another planet when it took to the Martian skies on April 19, 2021. This video maps the location of the 72 flights that the helicopter took over the course of nearly three years. Ingenuity far surpassed expectations - soaring higher and faster than previously imagined. Designed to be a technology ...
Zooming into NGC 6164

This zoom video transports us from a broad view of the Milky Way in the sky all the way to the cloudy nebula NGC 6164/6165 (also known as the Dragon’s Egg), home to the fascinating star system HD 148937 right at its centre. Using nine years of data from the ESO’s Very Large Telescope Interferometer and other telescopes, astronomers have inferred that this pair of stars used to be a trio, until ...
April 2024 Total Solar Eclipse seen from Space
Переглядів 8715 місяців тому
A total solar eclipse swept across North America yesterday, blocking out the Sun momentarily with parts of the continent plunged into darkness. Geostationary satellites orbiting 36,000 km away captured images of the rare celestial event. These images, captured by the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-16), captured the moon’s shadow moving across North America from approxim...

The award leverages NASA’s expertise in developing and operating these next-generation "Moon buggies" to build commercial capabilities that support sci...
NASA’s Design for Message Heading to Jupiter’s Moon Europa
Переглядів 335 місяців тому
There's a legacy of NASA spacecraft carrying inspirational messages into the cosmos, and Europa Clipper will continue this tradition when it launches in October 2024 to Europa, a moon of Jupiter that shows strong evidence of an ocean under its icy crust. A triangular plate seals an opening in the spacecraft’s vault, which protects Europa Clipper’s electronics from Jupiter’s radiation. The plate...

This video takes you to the location of HL Tauri in the constellation of Taurus, 450 light-years away from Earth. The start of the sequence shows a wide view, including the Pleiades and Hyades naked eye star clusters. It then zooms into a very detailed visible-light image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and ends with ALMA observations of water vapour in the HL Tauri disc. For more deta...

Ingenuity Mars Helicopter Says Goodbye #ThanksIngenuity
Переглядів 437 місяців тому
The Mars Ingenuity Helicopter flew for the last time on Jan. 18, 2024, and NASA concluded its flight operations after post-flight imagery confirmed damage to at least one of the rotorcraft’s rotor blades that rendered it no longer capable of flight. As the historic mission comes to its end, Ingenuity’s team reflects on some of their favourite moments and memories from the helicopter’s time on M...
2023 Was the Hottest Year on Record
Переглядів 1717 місяців тому
2023 was Earth’s warmest year since 1880, and the last 10 consecutive years have been the warmest 10 on record. But why does NASA, a space agency, look at Earth’s temperature? And how do we even measure global temperature? • @jonasklose6472
      @jonasklose6472 Рік тому

      We know how small parts of the surface looks like. However to find good landing spots and places where it could be worth to dig or to drill, you need to cover large distances close to the ground with a camera. Also, there's no place on earth where we could properly replicate the atmosphere of mars. So knowing that it flies so well really assures scientists that their models and computer predictions are extremely close to reality. So far this little tough guy exceeded all expectations and opened up new insights on flight in general and on using conventional and cheap flying methods to explore other planets or moons.

      Do you use a mobile phone? Do you use a computer? Do you watch movies, take digital photographs, use lithium batteries? Where do you think all that technology came from? All because of cutting edge research done by scientists, engineers, logistics people, administrators at organizations like NASA, CERN, ESA, and many other advanced research and engineering institutes around the world. They created our current world decades ago and are creating the future right now by pushing the boundaries of what is possible. We all benifit, even those, like you, who lack imagination.

    Someone needs to tell me how it can fly, does mars have an atmosphere of some sort

    • @victor-charlesscafati
      @victor-charlesscafati Рік тому

      Ingenuity has flown for over 89 minutes and more than 7.1 miles (11.6 kilometers). Mar's atmosphere is much thinner than Earths-It's atmospheric volume is less than 1% of Earth's. A propeller driven craft does need an atmosphere of some degree to achieve flight.

    There's no air. How it flew ?

    • @jonasklose6472
      @jonasklose6472 Рік тому

      There is air. But it's extremely thin and only about 1% as dense as on earth. So you couldn't breath it. Scientists were sceptic that it would fly there at all. But the experiment went exactly like the predictions.
