How to replace a shorted capacitor on a Chamberlain LiftMaster Garage Door Opener
So you try to close your garage door and the door stops because the garage door opener has powered itself off. It seems there could be a short in it as it will go off and on. By replacing the old capacitor in the opener, you will save yourself from having to call a garage door company to fix or most likely they will tell you that you need a new opener (when you don't) when this simple repair is all you need.

Good info! My handle is loose but still hanging on to the cup. Any idea on how to get the end cap off from the outside? Or do I have to wait until the handle actually falls off? Thanks.
Hi Steve, When you look at the end cap it appears to be part of the handle which it’s not. I did not realize that so when the handle came off, that’s when I saw that it wasn’t. You have to have the handle off to fix it. Try to see if you can just unscrew the handle (if it’s far enough away from the cup). You might need very thin needle nose pliers or a pair of scissors to stick in the space between the cup & the handle to grip the screw while you turn the handle to unscrew it. If you can’t do that, then yes you will have to wait for it to fall off, which can take a long time of use.
