Practitioner of the Craft, born and bred in the agricultural 'Witch County' of Essex (England) renowned for its history of persecutions via witchfinders such as the infamous Mathew Hopkins. Currently this channel features songs for Witches and Neopagans, drawn from the English folk tradition and beyond. In due course I hope to update with fresh content focusing practical techniques such as incantation, immram (wake-dream-story), and devotional song, etc.

In The Bleak Midwinter
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind makes moan.
Earth stands hard as iron, water like a stone.
Snow has fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow.
In the bleak midwinter, it is ever so.
Darkness now surrounds us as the nights grow long,
Yet we fill the night time with our hopeful song.
Winter’s cold won’t reach us here, where we light our fire,
As we burn the old year on its funeral pyre.
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind makes moan.
Earth stands hard as iron, water like a stone.
Snow has fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow.
In the bleak midwinter, it is ever so.
Now the new year beckons, even in this night.
Soon the days will lengthen, and our hearts grow light.
Hope will grow within us as we look ahead,
And we see that spring wakes out of winter’s bed.
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind makes moan.
Earth stands hard as iron, water like a stone.
Snow has fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow.
In the bleak midwinter, it is ever so.
Light will follow darkness, as the earth turns round,
Sunlight follows moonlight, thawing frozen ground.
So our lives renew with every dawning day,
And with every new year, blue skies follow gray.
In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind makes moan.
Earth stands hard as iron, water like a stone.
Snow has fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow.
In the bleak midwinter, it is ever so.

Holly King (Tune: Noel Nouvoulet) Sing we of a Mystery, now as long ago Blood red holly berries, blood upon the snow The Oak King shall rise, the waxing year to bring Therefore bid we farewell, to the Holly King Now in deep Midwinter, all seems in a trance Comes the golden Oak King, in his age old dance Comes he to slay, yet honour he does bring To his fallen brother, the darksome Holly King Si...

Spring Strathspey by Gwydion Pendderwen 1975 Myrddyn was playing his pipes in the wood, And it sounded so good to my feeling. Hiree, hiroo stirred the dance in the blood, And my fresh maidenhood started reeling. Sweetly it drew me, the song that went through me, As if sure it knew me, a maiden-song, laughing long. I'm sure that I hear it, Oh, let me draw near it, I want to be merrily courted in...
The Witches' Ballad - by Doreen Valiente

The Witches' Ballad Poem by Doreen Valiente Tune by Castalia Oh, I have been beyond the town, Where nightshade black and mandrake grow, And I have heard and I have seen What righteous folk would fear to know! For I have heard, at still midnight, Upon the hilltop far, forlorn, With note that echoed through the dark, The winding of the heathen horn. And I have seen the fire aglow, And glinting fr...
The Cursing Song - by R.J. Stewart

R.J Stewart's 'Cursing Song', clearly intended for rapacious developers relentlessly chewing up the rural landscape. Learned from the singing of Rebsie Fairholm Curs-ed be they - that have ruined a fair land And curs-ed be they - that have sealed up the wells And curs-ed be they - that abandoned the Godds’ hands And built a strange - place for their people to dwell Cursed be your breath - and c...

The Snow it Melts the Soonest - a traditional British folk song

Learned from the singing of Annie Briggs Annie Briggs first popularised this traditional folk song in the 1960s, and then other folk revivalists picked it up and recorded it. Consequently, there are a variety of modern adaptations. The original lyrics as printed in Blackwood's Magazine, 1821, are as below. The Snow it Melts the Soonest O, the snow it melts the soonest when the winds begin to si...
Snow Falls - by John Tams

Cruel winter cuts through like a reaper The old year lies withered and slain Like Barleycorn who arose from the grave The new year will rise up again CHORUS: And the snow falls, the wind calls The year turns around again Like Barleycorn who arose from the grave The new year will rise up again And I'll wager a hat full of guineas Against all the songs you can sing Some day you'll love, the next ...

I love this!
Thank you lovely! It's fun to make songs, but I'm not a musician. So borrowing and adapting pop and rock tunes came to mind ☺
