I'm at my friends house who passed. I'm in the slow process of cleaning it out but Atasi LOVES that house, especially running upstairs.

Thank you
Dry Creek
thank you so much for the video!
I love you... figure it out and fix it yourself there's not enough of us out there
Thank you so very much!!
Very good

DON'T DO THIS!!! The resistor solder joint comes apart to ultimately prevent the car from burning down. It shouldn't be repaired like this because how do you know your solder joint will separate at the right temperature? If I did a repair like this as a mechanic and the car caught fire I would be sued in an instant. You need to fix the problem that caused this to happen. Check the cabin filter and the blower fan (as mentioned in the video). It's the air flow that cools the resistor.
You are clueless. For one, this was informational in nature. For $20 dollars, it’s hardly worthwhile. That said, the differences in melting point of a solder joint is hardly going to make a difference. That unit is designed to get hot, hence the cage around it to prevent foreign materials making contact and causing a fire. Normal everyday 60/40 solder will melt at around 350°F It's not like you're wrapping a fuse with aluminum foil and creating a 400 AMP slow blow fuse or using household Romex wire going direct to the battery with no fuse to power an amp, which I have seen. That burns down cars. Check the cabin filter? The cabin filter didn't cause bad blower fans in 2009 Honda Fits. They had bad blower motors.
Great Thanks
Easy, no tools...just use this tool I’m using
Does that also cause the motor blower resistor to stop working?
This is a great video! I wish I had someone to fix this for me. I would try it myself but I do not have a soldering gun and I'm broke!
Thanks for saving me $20. Just did the repair and its working well.
Thank you bro
Thank you! This procedure is NOT in the $100 Bently service manual for 99-02 VW Jetta, Golf, GTI. Thankfully, it applies to 2000 Jetta as well. Thank you for sharing!
Same thing on a mk3 Jetta. Thanks for the video.
What if the fan doesn't work at all? On any setting?
Then change the fan/motor. The part can be easily bought on EBay. About $55 new. You only need to unscrew 3 screws that hold the motor/fan in place. The resistor is one man job. The motor replacement is a two man job. Because it is heavy, you need someone to hold for you while you unscrew. Both motor and resist are on passenger side compartment near the legs. It is very easily accessible. You need a very long and a very short philips screwdriver though.
Just bought an 09. Had leaves in my cabin filter brought me here. I don't have this problem, but it is good to know about. I wonder if there is a way to make the motor spin easier?
New bearings but it's not worth taking apart
Thanks, good video. btw, $11 on Amazon, 4 min to replace...
just did this, took about an hour start to working motor
Thea are fixing that ni the Philippines .aside form the soldering Job. Technician are putting some wires to hold that metal
Who else is here because of live leak?
Thanks a lot, helped me out!
Happy dogs.
I have 140K on my fit, and never had this problem yet.
Ok?
Damn, son, I just spent an hour repairing my resistor like your video shows how, and NOW I read that this is "for information only, this repair is unsafe." So why post it? That's an hour I'll never get back.
Shouldn't have taken an hour! Start to finish should be about a half hour. "Information only" is essentially a disclaimer. I can't assume everyone has a functioning brain and doesn't perform an improper repair, for example using a propane torch and creating a huge blob of solder. Making an IMPROPER repair could render it highly unsafe to reuse. Heck, it could even put your eye out!!! ;)
Whether it took an hour or a minute, this connection is calibrated to separate when overheated at a specific temperature (typically 240 - 250 degrees F), and even the finest solder repair will not be to the original spec. (e.g., typical tin/lead solder melts at 350 - 360 degrees F). So even a "proper" repair would be far out of spec. That extra 100 degrees F of overheating under the dash could easily lead to a fire. For that reason alone, you should put a bigger disclaimer on this video, I suggest you make it an overlay at 0:00.
Where did you come up with this 240 - 250 °F spec ? The lowest melting point for a solder is 244° F and it's very costly due to the high content of indium. Since these parts are inexpensive, I doubt they are using a high cost solder alloy. The lowest melting point and lowest price solder melts at 422° I'm willing to bet you didn't actually work on your resistor and you're nothing more than a troll who's throwing out some numbers and wasting my time. In other words, I'm not impressed. Also, you're not going to find the melting point for those resister safety contacts unless you're a design engineer for Honda. Nice try.
Awesome thank you very much
Bought a new one on ebay for $10 with free shipping. 10 minute fix
Can't go wrong there huh!
+seaswirl79 wat is hibrit
Man, this guy is a complete idiot. How do dogs explode? Thank GAWD he's like 70 years old and not going to be around much longer. What a moron.
Well at least I don't wear yellow sweaters and ride a bike with no brakes Mr. Stink Muffins! CUUULICK
You're just jealous cause I mix high style with high octane adventure.
Don't make me melt your motherboard, cuz I got your IP!
Here how my extremely difficult checkpoint inspection went, last time I traveled from Sierra Vista to Tucson on my return trip. Me: "How you doing?" Officer: "Good. Are you a US citizen?" Me: "Yes sir." Officer: "Okay have a nice day."
the storm was a tornado i live in spokane
I love the sound of that rain, your video camera really captured it nicely.
That was shot with my HS-10 Fuji. It's been a good all around camera. I have a new 55" Samsung smart TV and I can play this video on that TV now and it's awesome on it.
The box didn't stand a chance : )
You said no tools...
Michael Ray Yeah you don't need any tools. A pen, a bent nail, a comb, a stick, fingers etc. I used a tool so the camera could get a view. If I had my hand in the way, it would have been difficult to see.
+seaswirl79 lol, it was still funny that right after you said "No tools" there's a screwdriver in your hand. lol.
Yeah yeah, you don't really need a tool, but as Michael said, if you want a good camera view, you need to keep your hand out of the way and use something to enhance the view for the camera.
That grey guy is a bit of a goof ball.. lovely dogs bud..
+theonlyvicount Yeah she is a major goof. She is chocked full of personality and a lot of fun.
Does Washington state have much beetle kill?
Not that I'm aware of. I spend a lot of time in Montana, Idaho and Washington and I have not heard of any significant problems. Funny, I knew some folks name Spolar from the Spokane Valley area.
In reply to seaswirl79... I see your point LOL! and yes California is one of those state were people will put up with pretty much anything, like having there rights fondled with, such as gun registration aka “pre confiscation forms,” and the high capacity magazine ban bullshit, thus cementing my point earlier. Honestly, anyone with half a brain will usually move to other states that aren’t so far from the reservation, if you will. Also, speaking of moving from California, it seems many people will be moving/evacuating away from all the radiation coming ashore from the east, so there isn’t a better excuse for people to get the hell out of there!!
I lived in California back in the late 60s. I didn't miss in then and I don't miss that place now.
Good for you!
In reply to seaswirl79... Well, I guess they're getting tired of dealing with Americans protecting/exercising their Fifth and Fourth Amendments. So I guess they're now waving more people threw, rather then asking the same old, worn-out questions to people who are up to "100 mile inland, on roads that don't even intersect the American borders. Simply put, These checkpoints do next to nothing on stopping illegal’s, due to there location for one, and second, illegal’s who can speak English, that may not even be Hispanic, can simply say “yes” and be on their way, "unless there's racial profiling," which creates another issue all together. However, these checkpoints are great for acclimating the people for getting stopped on "suspicion-less or immigration checkpoints," which are way inland. (Fourth Amendment), and then given questions that really don't have to be answered, thanks to the Fifth Amendment. However, if they don't answer these ridiculous questions, "that have no constitutional jurisdiction," the officer will have to ask them pull into secondary where there Forth Amendment can be violated at their leisure, of course, with or without the consent or protest of the driver and passengers. They have cameras all along the start of the line, scanning everyone’s LP's, thus answering the question of weather or not those individuals are US citizens, or "Citizens of the US." In which stopping and questioning the driver shouldn’t be warranted. Also, though I agree with you about loving your country and not your government, I'm sure you understand that waving your rights is shit loads easer than being steadfast in protecting them, or should I say exercising them, thus keeping them. Waving your rights for convenience is dangerous by definition, and I’m sure you won't lift your sleeve to have your blood taken at a sobriety checkpoint, just because it faster and gets you threw without much trouble, unless you’re over the legal limit of course. ;) Rights that are not exercised are rights lost over time or immediately; it's so easy to understand! Or is it? Being right when the Government is wrong is always dangerous, but it is the duty of every “Proud American” to be so, in order to keep them on check.
I have always been sort of a fucking prick. Now at my age, I have mellowed a little, but trust me, all it will take is one of those border patrol fags to start acting all "in control" with authority coming out their ass and I can turn into the biggest major bastard imaginable, rather quickly. I don't like authority in the first place, so as long as they wave me through or ask me one simple question, then I'm good with it. Since I'm the owner of a “black scary rifle” I am even more cognizant of how fragile my rights are and how easily they can be infringed. I now take the long way when I travel south so as to avoid California with various infringing bans in place.
LOL! She must already know who you are for her to not ask you for your proof of citizenship. Hell, I'll go so far as to say that you work for them. If not, then that border patrol officer actually had some common since, and simply waved you through. Most of these numskull are so robotic in the way they behave, that they’ll ask someone the same f#cking questions every time that varry same person goes threw, over and over. (because for them, it’s the only way back home, from work. Otherwise they would avoid the checkpoint all together.) However, what would you have done if she asked for proof of citizenship, or asked if you were a US citizen? Would you have answered yes to her question, (which for some reason proves your citizenship,) or hand her your DL, (thus waving your rights, in either case.) You do realize that most of these so called "douche bags" are asked one of these questions up-front, which have no constitutional jurisdiction by the way, so naturally the "douche bagginess" will start and well the rest is history.
She doesn't know me! Hell, I live in Spokane, WA and that is in Yuma, AZ. However, I happen to be down here again and went through that same checkpoint a few hours ago. It was a guy this time and again, I said nothing and was waived though. To answer your question, they have asked me before if I was an American citizen. I answer with one word and that's all I have ever said, and that is "yes" Maybe I'm old school, but I'm still proud to say I'm an American. I love my country, I just hate the government!
Nope, no laws being broken there… except for that measly racial profiling one.
wrong again numbnuts it is a right go learn something
Do you realize this is exactly how nazi germany started?
The words are 'reasonable suspicion' - so if you're not co-operating that makes them suspicious and you may just be giving them the reason to search and detain you as long as they want. They don't need probably cause at a checkpoint.
If a border patrol checkpoint is withing 100 air miles of the border they can legally detain you and search your vehicle for whatever reason they want to come up with. In fact avoiding a checkpoint is a felony offense. Driving is a privilege -not a right.
I said NOTHING. I rolled down my window. I pushed a button and showed my Montana white man face. Gosh, constitutional rights are just TRAMPLED!!
Some of those older cars like GMs, you need a hook or a special tool. If you don't know that those Beetle handles come off like that, you'd pull your hair out trying to figure it out.
