Short visit to HUONVALLEY Tasmania
Welcome back.
This is a short visit to the HUONVALLEY Region.
I have been here before in sunny weather, this time the weather was not as great ,so not as much footage of the Region due to wind and rain.
But I did revisit my favourite campspot at Gordon Reserve.
A stop at Franklin well known for their wooden boat building .
Geeveston a logging town iI didn't get a lot of footage but did make it.
I did plan to get back here but eventually moved on to other great places.
So enjoy this little visit to the channel areas south of Hobart.
See you next week.
Bill.

Hobart the capital of Tasmania, what a beautiful city,a place where it seems nearly everyone has a view of the water. The old buildings are many and I made this episode on a Sunday morning so not much traffic. A great deal of the footage is around the waterfront areas, including Constitution Dock, which has some old sailing vessels and is the finishing point for the Sydney to Hobart yacht races.Al...
TASMANIA'S, Geographical Centre to the Highland Lakes

A long title for a long episode. The Geographical Centre of Tasmania is surrounded by several lakes connected by canals all part of the Hydro system of Tasmania. With many campsites as I discovered. Encountering all types of weather, I managed to get some sunny days for filming. I was interested also in the Highland Lake district so a trip up there really cooled things down. I'm glad I took the...

Lyell Hwy Tasmania. This was an eyeopner, to drive from Queenstown to Lake St Clair. Several short walks along the road and amazing mountain peaks. I wasn't able to identify most of the mountains in time to upload this episode but the scenery is unforgettable. There is a different road to see the national park which I may do in a later episode, so hope you all had a happy festive season and enj...

Welcome back everyone hope you all had a nice Christmas. Around Queenstown Tasmania, this is the episode I didn't get to make last visit due to mechanical problems (radiator)so I have made up for it this time. I didn't do the train ride on the West Coast Wilderness Railway,as it was raining, but I did get it in operation leaving the station. I stayed at the famous gravel football oval campsite,...

So I've reached episode 150.I'm not sure why the thumbnail says 'premiering now' I must have accidentally touched a button when uploading. What a time it's been since I started. From Marrawah North West Tasmania, through WARATAH,Mullah,Zeehan, Strahan, then onto Queenstown. Zeehan and Strahan are new to me,as I didn't make it here last trip (radiator blew out on the white Tarago),so the furthest...

Tarkine Drive, one reason I wanted to return to Tasmania. This is my longest upload, as I wanted it contain the whole experience in one episode. Trowutta Arch has a beautiful walk down to it with the giant ferns. You'll notice I like the bridges as they give a great view, from above too. The little flying camera received a real hiding, that day ,the battery charger was on all day. One day to do t...

Stanley Tasmania, situated near the North West corner of Tasmania. A beautiful place full of colourful buildings, beaches and of course the famous 'Nut' towering over the town. Great weather to visit and a cool breeze to climb the Nut. I found out through photographs around town that a Dreamworks movie called 'The light between oceans' was filmed here with Jack Thompson ,Michael Fassbender, and ...

Tasmania's North Coast, so much to see, not enough time and sunshine at the moment but always beautiful. A trip south to Sheffield and Mount Roland, and O'Neil Creek,Penguin, and Burnie which handles 50 % of Tasmania's freight,I have heard Penguins but can't film them yet. I found the Don Railway also neat Devonport, so much to see,so while I've been putting this episode together I have very muc...

Success, I have footage of the trip down the South Australian part of the Murray River, last time the footage was lost. After a quick trip across the Nullarbor, I didn't do much filming until I got to Morgan. It's the section where the big cliffs are. The nicest stay for me was at Swan Reach, across from the cliffs, free camp too. I do mention Pelicans a bit, sorry,I was so glad to do this trip a...

Maits Rest is definitely worth the stop and the walk. Just don't blink next time.😊
I really enjoyed the drone footage. I live on the Ocean Road and have seen it from many angles but your drone footage puts a totally different perspective on it. Well done, thankyou.
Back in Tassie Bill you get around. I was in the houn area last year good spot.
WOW!! Absolutely stunning thank you Bill and take care 🌸
Thankyou Louise ,take care Bill
Great video as are all your videos Tasmania such a beautiful place those reflections are amazing thanks again for another enjoyable video
Thanks Andrew, just a short episode, next one with be very scenic. Bill
@intooz4692 looking forward to it
G'day Bill. Another wonderful video of Tazzie, starting with that fantastic camping spot next to the water. Great drone footage at start and end. You have had some terrific weather, those sunsets and sunrises, magic. This trip has provided so much variety, sights and sounds, old buildings and terrific scenery. Thanks again Bill. Take care please Smokey 🤗👍
Hi Smokey, thanks, it really is a beautiful part of Tasmania, but overcast and rain didn't do it the justice I hoped, but stay tuned as there's plenty of great locations to come. Take care Bill.
Just beautiful Bill, thank you very much!!
Thanks I think that was the best place for wildflowers.
Hey bill, awesome videos just wondering how your able to afford all the travelling, sell your house/ super? Looking to do this myself some day. Cheers
FIFO for a few months
Hobart is such a beautiful city and your video really showed just what a special place it is to visit. When we watch your videos it brings back such wonderful memories for my husband and I of are holidays in Tassie. Thank you for taking us on your adventures and we are looking forward to where you are next off to. Travel safe Bill and we hope you have lots of sunny skies. 🚐🚐
Thanks,I love travelling and doing the videos, it gets me out of the car and do some walking, so much to explore, thanks Bill
Thank you for sharing such special places with us. We loved The Steppes area and I think those metal sculptures were made by the same man whose sculptures are at Constitution Dock. We look forward to seeing your next adventures. Travel safe Bill 🚐🚐
Looking at the sculptures I think also the Queenstown sculptures on those rocks were the same sculpture.
They had to build them strong as it’s a cyclone area see what happened to Darwin in 74
I sure did
Hobart is under rated by so many Australians who don't understand its importance in Australian history
I know, and I didn't realise myself and still think I only scraped the surface.
Fantastic thank you
Thankyou.
G'day Bill. Another wonderful video of Hobart and surrounds and Mt Wellington. The Harbour and the old sailing ships, the old Colonial Buildings, so much history, Fantastic 😮 You sign off with thanks for watching, but it's us, your viewers, should be saying, thanks for allowing us to watch. You have covered so much of the sights and sounds of Tazzie. Many Many thanks Bill. Take care. Smokey 🤗😁
Hi Smokey thanks,Hobart has so much to learn from,I did wait around for the sunny day and glad I did. Mawson's hut replica was so different, and there were more original items in the museum that I didn't show. It was a long video but I couldn't bare to chop anything out,as I wanted to show everything I had. Thanks and take care Bill
What a great video. You have shown us a some interesting sights of Hobart &your views on Mount Wellington are amazing. Glad the old but reliable wagon made it up there. Take care😅😮😮
Hi Thelma, yes it made it up ,much better having a manual car,Mt Wellington lives up to all the hype, must be the highest lookout you can drive to,in Australia, glad the the clouds went ,thanks Bill.
Tasmania really is gods country.
Thank you for bringing my memories back to OZ.😊
Just beautiful, loving your Tasmania footage❤
Thankyou Wendy,I have several episodes to put together as there's a lot a footage, thanks for watching take care Bill .
So peaceful around Lake St Clair. Thanks for the fantastic videos!
Thankyou I liked it there I stayed a few days.
Just beautiful and so interesting thankyou Bill 🌸
Thankyou took a few days to grab the good weather but Tasmania gets weather changes a few times a day. Thanks Bill
Our bus stopped to allow me to photograph that monument to the centre of Tasmania but I do not remember seeing a lake there AT ALL, so wondering if it was added after 2010. However, it was a cold wet, foggy day that we were traveling so maybe the lake wasn't obvious to us as it was in this video with sunshine. So it was a real surprise to see the landscape from your flyover as that day it looked like button grass plains & scrub. So much water in Tasmania than I realised & we could do with some lake areas here in NSW closer to the Sydney Basin with lots of lovely fresh water & trout in it along with perch.
I was surprised just how many lakes there were and many are joined by those canals to feed the Hydro electricity scheme. Never short of a campspot. If I lived in Tassie I think I would buy a canoe or kayak, boat.Take care Bill.
G'day Bill. You are really spoiling us with the magnificent sights and sounds of the great state of Tasmania. Once again your drone and camera footage is second to none. Thanks again for letting us tag along Bill, incredible experience Smokey 😊
Hi Smokey thanks,I had so much footage I didn't use it all as much of it was in the overcast, with that said though the rain mist in the Highland forest was nice especially with the Currawongs there. As you saw the weather was changing throughout the day ,it changes so fast here. All the best Bill.
Loving this Bill! The 'purple things' are foxgloves and yep, they're an introduced species and look as if they could well become a noxious plant if they haven't been declared so already. Like in WA, we saw naturalised arum lilies, and freesias - just beautiful but not native. Making me want to come back for one last trip!!
Thanks for that,I remember all the lillies in WA also.Nice to look at .
Thank you for sharing such a pristine and peaceful part of Tassie with us. The lake looked amazing and the Pumphouse on the lake looked like such a special spot. Not too sure about the snake encounter 😅 but they are things we all need to be aware of when we visit different places. Keep enjoying Tassie and safe travels and we will be looking forward to seeing where your travels take you. 🚐🚐
Thanks, sorry for the late reply, I nearly dropped the camera when I saw the snake, a nice walk all the same, thanks for watching Bill.
You do need to go back Bill, you didn't get to Zeehan! Or down to Strahan to explore Macquarie Harbour - yes, definitely a return trip. Lived in Zeehan for a while. Hope you get down to the Huon Valley, loving your Tassie tour! All the best.
Hi there,I've recently uploaded a video where I briefly stopped at Zeehan and Strahan, I was a busy day, humid, and I had alot of scenery to cover before rainy days, about 4 videos back Take care Bill.
@@intooz4692 Thanks Bill! I will have a look, we are binge watching your Tassie playlist! Hopefully it's in there - got to Queenstown and I figured you'd be going on down the Lyell Highway from there.
Yes I did that's now 2024/2025.I think you've been watching my vids from 2 years ago 2022.
Fine work brother. Well done to you.
Thanks ,having a great time doing it,Bill
I did the whole trip from Straun back to Queenstown & to be honest the half closest to Queenstown was boring & we were glad to get to the end of it as it isn't as picturesque as the first half. These are all new trains & carriages to what we traveled in 2010.
I think they have recently reopened the entire train tour after closing some of it for bridge works.
Thanks Bill loved watching the echidnas foraging 😊 Take care and enjoy 🌸
Thankyou,I was surprised how carefree they were, many animals are like that in national parks.
@intooz4692 It's good to see 👍🌸
Hi Bill, such beautiful scenery. Love the drone views
Hi Chris thanks, everywhere you turn is something to see take photo. So many painting shots.Echidnas all over the place.Rain today and back to long clothes up in the highland lake district. Take care Bill
G'day Bill. Another wonderful video of your travels around Tasmania. It's a fantastic part of the world, and you have shown us so many beautiful sights and sounds. Thanks again Bill, safe travels. Smokey 😊
Hi Smokey thanks for your great comment, I have been very busy filming madly on the sunny days,so I'll have several more episodes od Tasmania to come, and looking at the photogallery on the phone I've captured some great shots. So keep watching all the best Smokey Bill.
Another cracker episode Bill. 😊 your drone videos and skill are excellent. What drone do you have to capture such amazing shots? Geoff
Hi Geoff thanks for your comment, a mini 2 does it all.
You have some great drone shots in these videos. Looking forward to coming to Tassie next week, Its been over 15 years since I was there, and these drone shots are just what I needl
Thanks next episode is primarily Lake St Clair.
Beautiful photography Bill. You really show Tasmania at its best.
Thankyou Ian ,so easy when it's this good.
We are so lucky to live in such a wonderful country with so many of these special places to visit. We loved the Nelsons Falls as on our times in Tassie we have missed going there but it is now on our list of must see things. Thanks again for taking us on your adventures and looking forward to your next video. Keep safe Bill. 🚐🚐
Thanks ,Nelson falls had a great walk ,and that photo stop said it all for those walks, wasn't too thrilled to have people in the waterfall shot but 10 minutes later five cars and a bus arrived so I was lucky I think. Take care Bill.
brilliant drone work matched to atmospheric soundtrack - epic!
Thankyou I had several tracks to choose from,I'm always looking for more .thanks for your comment Bill.
Love this video, Thankyou for sharing. 🤍
Thanks, nice area up there cooler in summer too.
Great video mate, thanks for taking the time to document and edit
Thankyou that was a big couple of days, so lucky to get snow too,
Should be there for Celtic festival absolutely beautiful..
It would be good
One of your best episodes
Thanks that was a big big day. This is why I love Tasmania .Thanks Bill.
Truly amazing video, thank you so much. We are heading to Tasmania in a couple of months and your trip is helping us plan. Love watching all your travels.
Thankyou,I myself have watched others videos to get an idea. There is something new around every corner. You won't be disappointed. All the best Bill.
What a beautiful walk through the ferns that was on a rainy day!!. I stayed in a motel at Burnie & they don't stop working even through the night. the motel faced it & had no airconditioning & the room was so muggy that we had to open the double windows to get some fresh air & the noise was horrendous. The bus company changed the accommodation after that experience. The next time we went it was a much better accommodation - ground floor near a river & I should have walked over to it as it probably had platypus in it.
Well it is slowly recovering more green around the hills there. More like the earth & less like the moon scarp that it used to be. We did the boat trip & also the train trip when I visited but the carriages are all new as well as the boats as it has been 14 years now since I visited that part of Tasmania.
Hi Louise, I've been away from phone coverage didn't get anyone's comments,my first week was full of interest, since then I've visited many forest in fact the latest one Mt Field np.is full of ferns, hope you had a great New Years until next week, Bill.
@@intooz4692 Yes, Mt Field was one of the trips we did on our trips, breathtaking the day we visited as light misty rain was falling.
Tasmania is incredibly picturesque. It always amazes me how few Australians have ever done an extensive holiday in Tasmania. So many just want to jump on a plane and go overseas to be with many thousands of other tourists in dirty smog laden places when Tasmania is on our back doorstep. It is now a little over 8 years since I extensively travelled around Tasmania (it still seems like it was only in the past 12 months since I was there). Keep up the vgood work Bill
Thankyou, Tasmania so close, will surprises all the time, yep I love Tasmania, only a few weeks left. Thanks Bill
Hello there. Your photography and videos are absolutely brilliant. Thankyou so much for such entertainment
Thankyou for that comment, there is so much to film, sometimes I'll hang around waiting for sunshine if I have to.All the best Bill.
I visited the house where one of our PM was born it which was very interesting to see. Very tiny for a large family. I don't remember the buildings being painted like that in 2010 when we visited the place. Since then they now have a place you can visit to view the penguins which I would love to see.
I didn't know about the pm,a unique place maybe they were painted for the movie, I now wonder of the group of little shops were movie props.
Happy new year Bill love your work , your drone photography is awesome, Tassie is my favourite place and you are taking me places I’ve never been just love it, my daughter lived in Rosebery for 5 years and now lives in Franklin south of Hobart. I hope you stay in Tassie for some time, look forward to your videos
Hi thanks,I went through Franklin, famous for wooden boat building. I have just a few weeks lefts so making the most of it All the best Bill.
G'day Bill. Happy New Year. Wow Wow Wow, what a magnificent video, the Drone footage was superb. I've run out of superlatives. We are blessed to be able to tag along with you Bill, very grateful for the effort you put in. Magnificent. Stay safe please. Smokey
Hi Smokey thanks,I've been in the wilderness (no phone reception)so sorry for late reply.I really had fun editing this one,it was a big day too, stopping to film constantly. Well take care Smokey.Bill
Nice One! Have a Brilliant 2025!
Thankyou keep well Bill.
Love your videos and drone footage... Well appreciated from someone who has moved from NSW to Tassie... Really hope your enjoying it... (prob seeing more of it than we do)
Hi Roger is it,I love it here to see so much in a short time, and I've hardly done any hikes. Thanks for watching and comment Bill.
Well done Bill, a quality look at what is available to see and do in the region. We've been to Tassie 6 times and your channel shows us we have to return to see more.
Thanks I'm glad you find the vids useful, I did similar ie.I watched a few videos and knew I had to return, it's been well worth it,I'm still exploring, had a few weeks left.Had a safe New Year, Bill.
