It might have helped if they'd even bothered to contact the school before broadcast. The school knew I was on it and both my children went there.

It's what you get if you put a wooden box under a concrete bridge in a car park for fun!

@@penguinbars5504 It would have made more sense. I've just looked in the loft and I still have the safety helmet I'm wearing in the film, so my archiving skills seem to be a bit more efficient than the BBC's.

Being one of those children I'm not entirely overwhelmed that my hard work turned into a muddy brick, I think I may just cope. If it had been stuck at the back of a cupboard at school it would have had a much better chance of survival!

To be fair, the new capsule that’s been buried today doesn’t look much better than the original one! There’ll be absolutely nothing left of the 1981 contents once that’s uncovered.

@@AyliCarper complete waste of time wasn’t it really lol we can just look at this and see what was in it. They should have showed us more in this bit of film, then we’d know what there was. The same thing will happen to the stuff they’ve put in there now.

They really should've had a box that went inside the box and vacuum sealed all the items too that went into the new time capsule. A few were in plastic bags and glass jars but the majority were just dumped in unprotected. The contents are going to be another disappointing, muddy, corroded mess in 40 odd years time went it is opened again. For those that missed it, it's on the This Morning UA-cam channel.

@@djdrwatson yeah, you’d think they’d have learnt from their mistakes wouldn’t you? Would have been better to put everything in kilner jars inside the box, and vacuumed sealed as well like you said, as the rubber seals on the kilner jars would erode as well over a few years. Might still come out a corroded mess, but at least take some extra measures. I definitely won’t be around to see them dig that one up anyway 😆

Thanks for letting me know. This clip has been on UA-cam for nearly five years and they didn't think to contact me, or it would seem the school. I imagine they'll take it down now.

I only 'know' it was reburied because later in the eighties a school friend had watched Blue Peter and reported that it had been. (Late eighties - I'm sure I saw them rebury the 1971 capsule in the garden in 1984.) All I can say is that one of the first emails I ever sent (in 1999) was to Blue Peter asking them about it, to which I did not receive a reply. This particular time capsule hasn't been mentioned again. I'm not bitter. It's a box of nonsense underneath a car park ramp.

It was moved into the BPG. It was opened in 2000. All the materials retrieved were destroyed by the elements, especially water.

@@Stiffd1 No, that was the Blue Peter timebox from 1971. This one has not been mentioned since the eighties.
