      Thank you so much for that reminder! I've seen people at markets by me that sell freeze dried products. It might be worthwhile to also try out freeze drying berries. That might expand your customer base to also include the demographic that would enjoy a healthy, crunchy treat. Keep me posted on if you get in and how it goes!

      @packy0462 you may even be able to use the freeze dried candy to barter with other vendors to get some locally grown fruits to use. I've found that the more locally sourced your ingredients are, the better that customers feel when they buy it since they know they are helping out more than 1 small business. I'm very excited to hear about your new venture :)

    Hi, my opinion would be to talk about the range of what you personally are interested in and be proud of all the different facets of who you are. Some videos might get more views than others but you might be surprised by who identifies with what and who finds a video interesting even if it has nothing to do with their own life. For example, i have no desire to homestead but i find it interesting to watch homesteading channels. I was originally watching channels about frugality. For some reason, a lot of frugal people seem to be practising christians with a lot of kids so UA-cam sent me down a rabbit hole of homesteading home schoolers. I have no kids and i don't believe in religion but i find their videos interesting -- maybe BECAUSE they're different from me. The only thing that's made me unsubscribe from a few youtubers is if they're too negative about themselves or things in general over an extended period. I finally counted with one person i used to subscribe to and discovered she had apologized over 30 times in one video. This was an ongoing thing -- which i didn't need. BTW, on another topic entirely, i was diagnosed with ADHD two years ago at age 62. So you never know what a viewer is going to find in common with you lol. 😸♥

      I greatly appreciate your opinion! I'll do my best to keep putting out a wide variety of content. As you are aware, the algorithm is a mysterious entity that can really send you spiraling down a very specific rabbit hole. I seen a tremendous amount of growth whenever I did a few frugal videos, but my whole life is about saving money, but not in ways that are worth while to always film since I rarely buy things from a store that isn't animal feed lol. Anywho, I'm glad the algorithm brought you to my channel, I always enjoy reading your comments :)

    Hi Lindsay, I would agree that not a lot of land is needed to grow a good amount of food. I also agree that it is far better to start small and gradually add crops and animals rather than getting burned out, exhausted and broke. Mistakes are a part of learning. We live on 25 acres of sagebrush and rocks. Our main reason for buying that amount of land was for quiet and privacy. We recently were able to afford to have the land properly fenced. We have slowly made improvements and increased our garden space over the 29 years of living here. Taking raw rocky land and turning it into a fertile garden space takes a lot of time and effort.The most important thing I have learned is to plant the garden as close to the house as possible. Out of sight, out of mind is so true. I would say I am not a homesteader but enjoy experimenting. each year. This year I added celery, sunflowers, and some herbs. The most amusing experiment was to plant a bed of garbanzo beans. I tried to sprout garbanzos for the chickens and they just molded, so I rinsed them off and planted them having no idea if they would grow. They are producing which makes me laugh. I am still amazed when seeds turn into plants that produce food. The best part of gardening is constant learning. Thanks for the video.

    • @storybrookefamilyfarm
      @storybrookefamilyfarm 6 днів тому

      The added privacy and peace of having a larger plot of land is always a nice benefit. Congrats on getting it all fenced in and on the progress you have made with turning it into a more fertile landscape. Doing garden experiments are really fun for me. I throughly enjoy planting new varieties of crops just so I can watch how they grow, produce, and obviously taste in comparison to the more common types. There is always just something so fascinating about planting a tiny seed and it turning into a monstrously huge plant. It feels like magic lol

    Lindsey, I enjoy watching your channel. Please don't feel that you have to act a certain way in order to get more views and subscribers-you are perfect the way you are. I think more views and subs will come with time. I almost never feel that I fit in with today's culture, and it's comforting to know that there are people like you out there who have interests similar to mine. I also like when you talk about spirituality and wish you would do so more often. As someone who has been deeply hurt and condemned by organized religion and it's followers, I find spirituality and solace in nature.

    • @storybrookefamilyfarm
      @storybrookefamilyfarm 7 днів тому

      Thank you for your support. I'm going to start being more open about my interpretation of the physical and non physical world around me, instead of always trying to keep my mouth shut about what I really think/feel. For me, homesteading and being a highly spiritual being are quite intertwined, so it complicates things when I'm always trying to keep quiet about the other half of my reasoning for doing what I do.

I really don't know any " normal" people", they are all a bit wacky and some just choose to cover up their oddness's. Fitting in is WAY overrated so be who YOU are. I think most people are battling to be themselves. And I think people are attracted to those who are genuinely themselves. So do the videos that express YOU and make YOU happy. @@storybrookefamilyfarm I didn't enjoy them as much fresh compared to other varieties actually. But they were prolific and beautiful pods. My favorite fresh has been Dragon Tongue (or standard Blue Lake or Kentucky Wonder). The Dragon Tongue are a bush type but if they catch onto a trellis they will climb 3-4 feet and produce a lot as well. I plant DT after the onions and garlic are harvested. Pick them young they are wonderfully crisp, slightly sweet and meaty without being spongy. The best dry bean I've tried is Good Mother Stallard.

      @DebRoo11 I forgot all about the Dragon Tongue variety! I grew it a few years ago and it is an absolutely beautiful looking bean that tasted really good too. I'll have to get more seeds for them. I can't believe I forgot all about them lol. I'll have to order some of the dry beans you suggest too so I can give them a try :)

    Nice to see how your garden is progressing Lindsay. I like seeing the types of crops you are growing. Weather is always a challenge. I live in the eastern part of Washington State so very dry. We have had temps near 90, which some plants love and makes other plants bolt, and now we are headed back into the lows in 40s and highs in 70-80s. What garden pests do you battle besides slugs? I think replanting is just part of normal gardening. I am constantly putting more seeds and plants into the ground whenever I have open spaces due to not germinating or needing to pull plants. Never a dull moment. 😊 Enjoy!

      Last year we struggled severely with the slugs, and then we battled tomato horn worms, which we had never dealt with prior to moving here. In previous properties, we've struggled with squash bugs pretty badly. We didn't have too many issues with them last year, but I think that's due to the squash plants barely staying alive due to poor soil quality and curious turkeys lol
