You are doing it wrong, armor is useless in this trash game because of garbage design. Your defense entirely comes from your rps(roll per second), cap is exactly 2 and that only happens if you are completely naked, highest defense you could have in the game. Next, just get rid off that shield and short-sword, you are embarrassing yourself. What you want to have instead is a nice long sturdy spear, longer the better. You can just use two handed spear and beat the entire game like that, or if you feeling fancy, you can still use a shield and a one handed spear(especially good against trash mobs, but get rid of the shield while fighting bosses, remember; naked wins the fight, both in life and in game).
