Lucan’s Witch- Christmas 2024
Third iteration- still have riff in Donner sequencer with CSreface, 2 passes with Fretless…kind of a third & keystep into pro 1. Everything went through Boss GT-1B and playing with feedback in one or two parts. Levels mixed, a little ducking and mixed down running it through Behringer rack compressor.

Direct out Ampeg and vocal mic in room. Everything flat except where noted. I keep saying Bose when I mean Boss and I don’t move down by the bridge when I play harmonics.

3rd day with Sire Z7 & first time with a band- just mic on IPad but sounds alright. Use good speakers or headphones…if you’re a bass player then run into your amp.

GUNNER CHANNEL V PLINTH: a tribute to James Jamerson & Dimension 20
Best wishes for a Happy Christmas, Red.
Somebody get that man a big coffee.
Amen!
Good to see you, Red.
Thanks for taking us to practice, Red.
I’ve been thinking so hard in getting one of these! I think I gotta pull the trigger! I think I seen this mine on their website it was $100 less because if the cosmetic stuff, unless there’s another one, what a great buy
@@bassimprovjams3772 I know it’s honeymoon period but if I paid full price it’s still an amazing value. There’s a four string with an ebony board, that’d be my first choice. + side: shocked and thrilled it was routed so I could lose the egg pickguard AND bravo to Sire for having a tone with an active! - side: stacked vol/tone and mid/frequency can’t turn one without the other unless your using two hands & opening battery box and the flap to the 9 volts…was a bit nervous I’d force it and break something. FYI I’d seen a review saying it was strung through body only…maybe it was the 1st gen Zs but can clearly see holes to string through bridge if I need to.
@ yea I really love it without the pickguard it’s so much cleaner looking, I’m literally ordering one right now, I originally want the natural one, it’s $200 more but after seeing the burst with no pickguard I’m having a hard time deciding lol either one the pickguard is coming off I wish I could take them off of my stingrays 5ers when I got my dingwall the first thing I did was remove it lol, I am curious how the natural would look with no pick guard
@@bassimprovjams3772 we both got a new bass and made a friend! Now that I’m subscribed will definitely be checking in to see what you get.
Hope it’s not rubbing salt in the wound but this was the dent & scratch. Wednesday morning they’d dropped the price another $100 and I just happened to look again while I was still in bed. Head was still on pillow when I checked out!
@ yea that’s t was, and I had to order one lmao 😂 you are the first one I’ve seen of anyone with a video of them, I was trying to watch one to hear how good that Muuaah sound was on them and there are none, we’re gunna change that tho lol as soon as I get mine im gunna try to make a video of it as well
Thanks- am working on like a mini podcast about fretless cause this turned out so quiet. Finally got to mess with Sire and am definitely happy with it.
I would watch this movie
Good luck with the new bass, Red.
I picked up a Keystep 37. Test one has “Strummed Chords” and Arpeggiator the the Reface CS ; this one is a Sequence for drums and Arpeggiator to the MX49.
Thanks for letting us inside your head, Red.
Red!
Pig Hog is good. I haven’t had any issues and use em for everything. I don’t mess with piano set up, stage box and stuff but the stage at church is probably now at least 75% Pig Hog. Just did headphone extenders so maybe done till the next problem comes up.
I had two silent cables back in the late 70s. They were a medium brown color with gold ends. They were a good idea, but they were not durable and failed with light use. I don't use any guitar or pedal with batteries. I don't need the idea of 'one more thing' that could fail.
I'm late to watch this tonight. I was playing at an outdoor gig. 105 degrees today. yikes.
@@telecasterbear Yikes indeed!
Nice one, Red.
Morning, Red.
Was thinking like after cards are paid off from Christmas-what if we found a precision neck with a maple finger board and you put mandolin wire in it for me. Could be a Mexican Fender or China square. Just not another rosewood.
Squier! Dang autocorrect!
@@Redbeard4321 I would love to do a bit of work for you.
@@Redbeard4321 Stewmac has two mandolin fretwire choices. It appears that I cannot put a link in a comment here. They are listed as narrow / low wire on the Stewmac site.
Edited. Thanks! And I’d just corrected my spelling of Shelley. 2 ‘E’s. This is every day of my life. I also never explained the Starstruck sticker is covering the bridge pickup route.
You misspelled Peavey.
Always good to see you, Red.
That was nice.
"LARS & the Real Girl" trumps all the rest, altho' "Bladerunner...".
"I don't have to justify myself to you!" 🎉
Any separation at the heel?
Heel = where the neck is joined to the body? There’s a couple pictures on reverb. I tried to show some glue up under the finger board. And what I assume you’d call a peg going into the heel from the top. My best guess is that at some point in the last 70 years, the neck was repaired. Austin Violin must of liked what they saw they because they worked on everything else. Can send additional pictures if you’re serious and contact through reverb but this is definitely not a museum piece.
What is the asking price?
1750 but it’ll go down to 1575 per Reverbs 10% after 2 weeks. I know that’s high for a quarter size Kay but it was just professionally restored for almost $1000. My buddy will take it in September with a friendly discount, which is nice cause now I got no reason to haggle. I would: have the bridge reshaped to get the D string in a better position to bow and my plan was to get the action stupid low and put a Krivo magnetic pick on. Maybe I’ll get an NS cello and tune it down one day…I like bowing but at my best was never proficient at it.
@@Redbeard4321 thx
@@UncleDanBand64 ua-cam.com/video/vsWLgPKkEuM/v-deo.htmlsi=9fwDhdYVqDa-pKJa with a rented upright I got for some Christmas concerts for a women’s ministry and couple old folks homes.
@Redbeard4321 You know I actually watched your video earlier when you explained about buying it and the work done. I always wanted to try a 1/4 size because it is very close the Fender scale. I have only played or owned 3/4 size. Currently I do not have an upright. I have been kicking around the idea of building one.
I’d salvage the neck off an upright that was totaled and get a nice bridge (maybe with piezo built in) cause there’s no reason to reinvent the wheel. Have a little something coming up with a 5 string…if I rescued or stole it is up for debate.
Thanks! I think so to but sometimes vehicles need parts…
Sounds good 👍
i cannot believe how precisely i am the target audience for this video what the actual hell
@@chickenbobby666 make sure you find The Fall Guy is Really Good!!! That’s my other personal favorite. Honestly I thought it’d be cool to grab a couple funny Lou Wilson quotes and this just kind of fell together. I had to play another minute or so of bass to make it fit but editing it together was like the hardest part.
I have a new project bass. I just got a 1972 precision neck, that some flattened the fingerboard, and glued on a slab of ebony, and gave it a 9.5 to 12" compound radius, fretless. So far, I have dressed the fingerboard to a full 9.5 radius. Next step is fret slots and frets. The body is a 77 or 78 precision in original three tone sunburst. There was routing done for a jazz pickup near the neck, and a monster route near the bridge. I plugged the monster route with a pine plug which was sanded and given three coats of amber shellac. I am a busy boy.
@@telecasterbear hmm…have you considered Mandolin fret wire? Leland Sklar has it on everything and now that I tried it once-I want it on something. You’re keeping the Ebony, is it a good piece of wood? Had an Ebony-ed neck on the Fenderstein at one point with the bridge moved up like 2/3” and I want one! Gonna feel bad if you’ve been making videos and I’m missing them but are you gonna do some videos?
@Redbeard4321 I only have two bass repair videos on my UA-cam channel. It's just a slide show of pictures in each. I have not used mandolin wire. The piece of ebony is very black. There is no visible grain.
@@telecasterbear if they’re more then a year old then that’s what I’ve seen. I don’t have enough patience and barely pulled off a couple fretless conversions…I’m the guy you station at the chop saw and yell measurements too. Hope you put something together for UA-cam with this next project.
When I started you could not go into a guitar center without at least 2 people playing Higher Ground on bass. Flea was everything and for my friend’s dads it was Jaco. Jameson, flatwounds and foam mutes just sounded better to me. 2 B Clear-I love Flea (Claypool, Graham, Mark King) but in 98/99, that’s what “everyone was doing!”
Agreed. Flats for me as well. There was no guitar center back when I started. You were not born yet. It was 1975. Only mom and pop shops. Such a great time. Looking at great used gear that I could not afford. I was only 15 then.
@@telecasterbear just getting back a 5 string that was with a friend for soldering pre-Covid. Teetering between trying Half Wounds or these new Low Tension LaBella’s. Look up Dogal Hellborgs on UA-cam but a 5 string set is $100+! Now that Hellborg’s have been around a while I should try to find out how they’re aging…
@@Redbeard4321 I love Gregor, and Lars, and Frank.
@@telecasterbear Gregor Fris? Lars Lehman? Frank Itt? The bald guy on BassTheWorld?
@Redbeard4321 Yes indeed. I miss seeing reviews by Ove Bosch. He died so young at age 51. He did reviews for warwick gear. A great bass player.
Father James.
Kong is a winner here with our terrier, Oscar.
He chewed a hole in the Chicago Bears bed so that’s getting handed down to the kitty. If he manages to get through the Kong bed, honestly I’ll be impressed!

Real talk: for years I’ve been mildly judging my sister. Then we get Alfred and now I’m looking at dog toys everywhere and getting a couple. (if he’s with me in a store, then you have to, right) In our defense- a lot of it is hand me downs from my sister!
…and I just put a Capt. America squeaky shield in the cart. The struggle is real.
The Cubs, and the Bears.
You know it!
Is Reverend a Catholic bass ?
Short answer: Catholic means universal sooo sure! Could be Lutheran or Methodist…Priest, Father, Clergy…do the Catholics use ‘Reverend’? She’s played 1 or 2 Sundays a month at an Evangelical Free and we just have pastors. When I move down to TN am interested in getting on like a freelance thing and playing some where different every couple weeks. Assume there’s enough money in it to cover gas and maybe add a couple pieces of gear a year.
@@Redbeard4321 Okay, good luck with the playing ,would be an amazing Bass I think, I live in the Netherlands, not much churchmusic here.
@ultrasignificantfootnote3378 Have been very happy with the Reverend and it’s a very respected brand. Hope you get to try one out. Am planning to test out a Lakland 5 string 35” with ebony fret board. What’s your current bass?
