Xpel or 3m on all 4 doors like my last one and the door jams will be done. Weather tech mats too. Wool wax or Fluid film underneath & the wheel wells of death that tend to get rust or chips. I have a set of these getting delivered tomorrow. I can't wait to get them. I think the reason the buckles are 2 each way is that it is protection against not having some obstruction or accident rip them all open facing the same direction. The "replaceable insert" is removed with heat, peeled away and a new one is glued in place. Actually, the entire heel of the boot can be removed the same way and replaced so long as you don't wear it down into the boot itself. I think to have the whole heel done you have to send it in. Or you can send them to MX Boot repair and they will do it for like $200.

    • @busabobsgarage9876
      @busabobsgarage9876 Місяць тому

      That makes sense on the buckles. I'm getting ready to really test these boots on the NORCAL BDR. I guess the biggest concern will be wearing them all day, multiple days, in the heat. I suppose it would be the same concern with any boot.

    Did you increase your tire size after you installed the leveling kit? I'm thinking of doing the same but worried that the tires will look undersized (and they're new-ish)... so thinking of waiting until I need new tires. But your setup looks good... what size tires are they?

    • @busabobsgarage9876
      @busabobsgarage9876 2 місяці тому

      The previous owner must have changed the tire size. It now has 275/60R20, which is about equal to 33". According to the interweb, the stock tire for the Bighorn should be 275/65R18, approx 34". If this is correct, it looks like someone may have put on a smaller tire with bigger rim. Not sure if it makes sense, but in my opinion, it doesn't look too bad. If you are going to change rims, be careful with the offset. If you go too far positive, your tires will hit the wheel wheelwells. I don't have exact specs, but learned this the hard way with an expensive set of rims on a chevy avalanche. Best advice is "do your research ".

    • @kensalinger2186
      @kensalinger2186 2 місяці тому

      @@busabobsgarage9876 Hmm... I wonder if I can get away with the leveling kit now.. I just bought it a little over a week ago (2022 Laramie). As I mentioned, the tires look almost brand new. They're 275/55R20, which according to google are just a hair under 32". So slightly smaller than what you have (which looks good).

    • @busabobsgarage9876
      @busabobsgarage9876 2 місяці тому

  • @joshthacahguy
    @joshthacahguy 2 місяці тому

    Few things I would suggest since I did this job months ago… 1. Get an upgraded balancer and bolt if you haven’t already or you’ll be doing this job again later; when the stock balancer separates 2. I’d do the oil pump/ o ring (it’s a common failure item after about 100,000 miles according to old forums) timing chain, timing sprockets and the cam retainer gasket… you’ll be pretty much there when you remove the water pump 3. High pressure line coming out of the PS pump is a common failure and definitely easiest to do with the rack out

    Congrats on your Road King! I believe that the 98 still has the EVO engine, not the TC88. You didn't say if it is carbureted or fuel injected. If it is injected via the Magneti Marelli, that would be the first thing I would think about swapping out for a carburetor. You will get your biggest gains for the buck with intake, exhaust, and a cam. Even with that, it's not going to be a race bike, but you will be able to pass a truck on the highway. You can get some more gains with higher compression pistons and maybe some head work, but it starts to get pricey when you get into the heads and it is diminishing returns. My best advice is "do your research" before you start dumping in a bunch of money. Good luck on the project!

    • @cowboy7x

      I believe he mentioned that it was fuel injected in the first video. I have this exact bike (only 96) same color even, and I agree with you that I would have switched to carb and dumped the EFI. @@busabobsgarage9876 I thought the 704 was the one with design issues?

      In my opinion the 705 corrected some design flaws in the 704. They are both usable, but I would buy the 705, for those who have not decided.

    The factory crush washer is a 20 x 24 mm. No big deal if it is a 26 mm if there are no clearance issues.

      @busabobsgarage9876 I'm converting a 97Rk but using a cam shaft controller which is a clone by Ultima, after I disconnected the ecm I separated the coil wiring to connect to the Ultima controller. Will I lose my speedometer beings it ran through the ecm? Secondly I purchased a ignition load eliminator, will that power up brake and running lights? The schematic is confusing of what can be eliminated with using the 6 pin connector to the main harness. Any advice appreciated

      Hey Doug, If I understand correctly, you are planning to use a nosecone (cam) ignition. That ignition should come with a wiring diagram, so I would start by making those connections. Also, if you watched my other vid all the way through (mm to carb conversion), it shows the differences between the wiring. Theoretically, you should be able to pull your ecm and that entire harness out of there. I would start by checking the stock carbureted wiring diagram against what the ignition diagram is telling you to connect.

    Yeah taking the rake out makes your truck worthless he got 2 upgrade right out of all 9 of his upgrades, so his must have list is a fail

      Thanks for the opinion. I've been loving the truck and all of the "upgrades" for more than a year now. Trucks are like Harleys, you make it your own.

    (im a little late to this video Im aware) Your "cold air intake" doesnt do much to increase performance or fuel economy especially when youre will pulling air from under the hood, Its warm air + your trucks ECU can and will identify air temps and adjust accordingly. If you wanted a "cold air intake" youd have been better off buying a snorkel cause at the very least the air wouldnt have been pre-warmed by your engine bay area.

      I believe that it does pull air from outside the engine bay, but the filter itself is inside. That said, I am disappointed with minimal if any performance gains. I guess I'm down to "8" essential upgrades 😢
