Yamaha XS650. to build or not to build?
So I have this Yamaha XS650 that I bought a while back to chop, but thanks to engineers having the soul of friendless ranga, that idea went to poo.
Now I'm not sure what I want to do with it.

Rear Indicators but better.

I got some genuine Harley rear turn signals that better suit the Tombstone tail light so I've done more modifications, this time with better instruction... I hope.
Why your carburetor screws are often stripped/rounded off.
Переглядів 698Рік тому
Today we solve the mystery as to why carburetor screws are so often flogged out. There are the usual suspects but there is another reason you may not even be aware of.
Shovelhead engine strip down and inspection.
Переглядів 221Рік тому
Before running the engine I wanted to make sure the internals were all good, This is what I found.
Hiding wires on the indicator light bar.
Переглядів 49Рік тому
The wires for the Harley indicator light bar look ugly, so I did a little sneaky hidey.
Is this tombstone light #12-0014E any good?
Переглядів 41Рік тому
It's good to know what you;re getting before you buy it so if you're thinking of getting this tombstone light (part number 12-0014E) it might help to watch this video first.
Making a stand for the Shovelhead engine

Before the Shovelhead engine gets pulled down we need a stand... So I made one.
Another project

While building the Evo Vicla I accidentally bought another project.

See you next Tuesday 😂😂😂 😉😏
hey buck have u come up with a plan or
Not yet mate. If i can't hard-tail the SX then it will pointless to keep it as I'll have 2 classic style swing arm bikes (taking up space).... But SX650's are just way too cool to get rid of.
do u have a hardtail frame or is it engineer issue@@buck_the_atlas
@@alwood9148 engineer issue, mate. No engineer in Victoria will sign off on a hardtail conversion.
@@alwood9148I'm replying to you here so as to not spam old mates UA-cam video. Do you have Instagram or Facebook so we can msg privately?
@@buck_the_atlasgive me your # spell it out dont use all numbers
Very informative thanks for posting
Cheers mate. I hope it helps.
Build a flat traker
Thank sounds like fun... but i;m not sure where I could ride though.
I would still chop it probably a smaller rear fender. Convert the front end to a sportster front end with a 6 over. no sissy bar because everyone needs a solo bike at least once and a new exhaust would be killer
Now that's some vision... very specific. I do have a long set of springer forks kicking about... hmmm.
motoscoodle hmmm not being a ranga i dunno know But being nsw nut i think u should sell it to me so it has a home with 5 other xs,s as for a rigid yep 40 yrs ago as a pup now? bathurst roads?? nope good to hear aussie accent shitboxs lol etc funny bugger
It's been a while since I've been to Bathurst but if your roads are any where near as bad as Victorian roads I hear your pain. 5 XS's... greedy much.
potholes are the norm here u learn them lol, but seriously what do u think u will do with the old girl and this be the 6th ... each is so diff to the others can send a pic one day show off@@buck_the_atlas
@@alwood9148 I've seen some of your collection on your channel... nice stuff you got there. Really dig your Ducati. Not sure what I will do will the old girl as yet, hence the video. Every time I;ve tried to build her it's been a shit show. Can't find the parts I want , shit engineers, overpriced parts and shitty dollar conversions.
@@buck_the_atlas thanks the duke was a nightmare ,have had some different bikes lol ,but u have been in touch with geoffs,xs in sydney? i have some ideas already
Canadian here and liking the machines 😊
Cheers mate.
Send it to Canada I'll take good care of that beaut.
Funny thing is this bike was originally from North America, just south of the Canadian border. Did you get XS650's in Canada?
When yamaha brought the 650 out, it reminded everyone of the old 650 triumph, beautiful motor, used for alot of customs , thnks for the memories
Exceptional motor, so easy to work on. Definitely inspired by the classic Triumph twins.
I remember several guys that had choppers with Bsa and triump engines, back then they were a power house , i had a piece a shit old Harley, vibrator, that would hit 70 mph downhill, i was the worst wrench ever, fucked up everything i touched in one way or another, best bike i ever had was a honda sport 90 with a 250 harley c model grafted on to it , had to cut the frame and add @ 1.5 inches, and a drop brace everyone called it the beast, and it was, had to go in the fuckin army overseas my cousin's raped it, i still miss it 50 some yrs now
@@user-yd3fq3jr2t The beast sound crazy. I would love to have seen that thing. We all have that one machine we miss.
I would preserve and ride it as is, if you can't hardtail it at the moment. Beautiful machine, Salute to you from Southern California.
Cheers mate. So... there's nothing you'd do to it?
I'm currently building a Vicla too mate - also in Melbourne. Will be watching your build closely.
Cheers mate. Don't look too closely, I wouldn't want to lead you astray.
for me it works with the "caiman" (vice grips)
Ah, so this explains why all my screws are rounded in all carb machines. All though i replaced them with torx screws, we use them alot at my job and love them.
Torx screws, brilliant idea.
philips/JIS heads are just the worst ever
They're certainly not the best option for dirty old carburetors.
@@buck_the_atlas after I started working on German cars I fell in love with the Allen style fasteners. Square drive is great too
@@Ryansanders80 Allen crews for sure. Robinson screws are a great idea but they're not much of a thing here.. that said I haven't really tried getting any.

Cool
Not enough wheels, but cool
@@timhateley That's why I have 2 bikes.
