    I love my new s2 paddle and want to add that I do use a single and a two-handed backhand. As a small boned woman, I can use the short handle even with the short handle. Previously, I had an elongated handle with my Engage 6.0. When I switched to the short handle it felt part of my arm and also this paddle is much lighter than my previous Engage with lots of lead tape on it. Really love it! Thanks for your review.

    Most people complain about the lack of durability on the Selkirk LUXX spray on finish. However, you stated that "It lasts a long time". What is a long time for you? What are the approximate number of hours that you have used them for? How much degradation in spin have you noticed after X number of months/hours of play? Thank you for a great video. As a competitive table tennis player of 3 decades, you have got me thinking about the S2 version of the LUXX.

    The obvious fix is the ball and why folks are not all over it. Why not look at the new Airless basketball technology as a solution or the foam ball they use for touch tennis.

    I have a question did you just buy the paddle and you got all the extra things?

  • @Rocketrecliner
    @Rocketrecliner 8 місяців тому

    As a former table tennis player, this is something I know a little bit about. I bought this paddle (S2) and it wasn't for me. The big face felt a little unwieldly to me and I'm not a fan of the Selkirk handles (most do like them though). Some of the best advice I received was from PB Pros who were former table tennis players, who used the Shakehand grip. What they recommended (and some still do) was to start moving your hand down the handle more. You can still leave your index finger up like you normally would with the Shakehand grip, but eventually, you need to get the bottom of your hand resting against the butt cap. This will give you more leverage and power over the ball, while still maintaining the control many of us still feel from using the Shakehand grip. It helped my game considerably and has allowed me to adapt to almost any paddle.

      @rocketrecliner which is the paddle then do you recommend if its not the S2 for table tennis players transitioning to pickleball hoping to continue using the shakehand grip for better leverage and power?

    • @Rocketrecliner
      @Rocketrecliner 8 місяців тому

      Hey @@trsbabu. I didn't say the S2 wasn't for former table tennis players. I just said it wasn't for me. Note the last sentence in my initial response. I said, "It helped my game considerably and has allowed me to adapt to almost any paddle." So, to directly answer your question, I would say, "Almost any paddle." I guess the point is, Pickleball isn't table tennis so you can't expect to use the same form and equipment and expect to be successful at it. I don't know of any Pickleball pros really using the shakehand grip, but I know of plenty that are former table tennis players. And what they did is what I've done and what I'm describing, that is, moving your hand down the grip to eventually reach the butt cap, but leaving your index finger up so that you still have that shakehand feel and control. This should allow you to feel comfortable with almost any paddle. As I said, I don't like the S2 because it just felt unwieldly to me due to the big face, but I've gone through Head, Selkirk, and Babolat paddles, which I've all enjoyed. But my favorite right now is the ProKennex Black Ace Pro. Some find it hard to control because it has ridiculous power, a small sweet spot, and mediocre spin, but I've been loving it. I can't really say exactly why, but I've enjoyed playing Pickleball more with this paddle than any other. Probably just comes down to nothing more than personal preference.

      @trsbabu 8 місяців тому

      @@Rocketrecliner Thanks for that John. I am definitely going to try what you are suggesting as I had completely aborted the shakehand grip and have been playing Pickleball with a continental grip for the past several months, This has created some tennis elbow issues with my backhand mechanics as was told to utilize more of my arm and shoulders and not my wrist. I have been playing recently with the Prokennex Black Ace XF which was recommended to me by a friend. Thanks and appreciate your insights. Love Pickleball!

    The knock on the LUXX is "paint grit" I play with a guy who has gone through 3 paddles in 3 months. Sweet spot gets smooth as glass. Selkirk does not guaranty grit. He had to really push them to warranty them. I'm a full time Ping Pong grip user, tore my elbow up twisting wrenches for 30 yrs. I choke up all the way with fingers on the face. The S2 is my next purchase. I've played briefly with the other shapes. Thanks for pointing out the advantages of this paddle for my style of play.

    so you think s2 shapes(ping pong shapes) are better for tennis elbow? I've been getting some tennis elbow pain when im playing for long hours of pickle and have been using the elongated from selkirk, halo max and just switched to a vulcan paddle that looks more ping pong ish. just ordered the lux epic shape to see how that feels. I come from ping pong so prefer that grip

    • @DrKlaytonKosek
      @DrKlaytonKosek 10 місяців тому

      I think the S2 shape is ideal for tennis elbow. Some top heavy power paddles I've used (like the new gearbox paddle) are really hard on the wrist extensor muscles that cause the elbow pain

      This is a great point. I'm currently making a video about ping pong players using the S2 LUXX and making a big point about elbow pain. I know 2 people that were having tennis elbow issues due to the popular elongated shape of the paddles out there. That's a real issue. The short handle and center of gravity of the S2 really helps.

      @@DrKlaytonKosek I've stuggled with my elbow (30 yrs. twisting wrenches) since I started playing. "over gripping" or "sqeezing" too tight was a problem for me to break. Tried all the common "fixes" but ping pong grip or "control" grip as it's called sometimes, has given me to best results. Did you know that people who play racquet sports tend to live longer than those who don't? It's because these sports activate a part of the brain called the cerebellum, which is responsible for coordination, processing information quickly, and strategic thinking. The cerebellum only makes up 10% of the brain's volume but contains over half of its neurons, making it critically important. Racquet sports, like table tennis, are great for exercising the cerebellum, as well as the parietal and frontal lobes of the brain. These sports require fast reflexes, aerobic activity, and strategic thinking, making them a great whole-brain exercise. If you're looking to improve your brain health, consider getting a coach and playing racquet sports!
