Fynbos Wine Tasting at BartInney, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Today we ventured out into the Banhoek Valley of the Stellenbosch winelands in South Africa. This scorching hot region is known for its vibrant fruity flavours and hospitality.
The Bartinney farm is home to many interesting wine and gin tastings. We tried the FYNBOS wine tasting, which came with 3 pairings of the Cape's unique flora to the match with its full bodied wines.
We learnt that the Bartinney wine estate has won the 2020 International Wine & Spirit Competition's (IWSC) best Cabernet Sauvignon in the world.
The wine tasting with fynbos pairing cost ZAR/ R 75 or USD/ $ 5 per person. The olive oil/ balsamic vinegar with generous ciabatta platter cost ZAR/ R 75 or USD/ $ 2.5 (olives grown on the farm itself!).
Lastly, the wine achieves sustainability with the usage of the natural fynbos to control pests on the vineyard and attract healthy pollinators (like bees!). More on sustainability here: www.bartinney.co.za/sustainability/

Wine Tasting at Spier Wine Estate, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Переглядів 6514 роки тому
We had a great day at the Spier Wine Estate located in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Despite the COVID 19 woes this year, the farm still bustles with warm spirited staff and a hospitable service. COVID 19 regulations and protocol are strictly followed and sommeliers wear a mask at all times during the tasting. Wines here are a true delight, especially when paired with a great charcuterie and chee...
Olympia Cafe & Deli

In 2017, Jon and I moved to the Cape. I arrived a few months later than him and, as a welcoming gift, he took me to Kalk Bay, where we enjoyed 2 delectable chocolate brownies from Olympias Bakery. Sitting on the rocks and watching the sea, eating these brownies was a memory I will never forget. We recreated this event today at Kalk Bay and I can vouch for it: the brownies are just as fresh, del...

Coffee in Cape Town, South Africa: A Shot of the Truth
Переглядів 3784 роки тому
We visited the popular Truth coffee shop in Cape Town this week. Having won The Telegraph's No. 1 top coffee shop in the world! in 2015, Truth is popular amongst the Cape's guests and locals alike. Its steampunk themed setting is loved by ethusiasts of Victorian tech art. Statuettes on display are done by local artists and the coffee is simply heaven! Coffee for 2 at Truth cost us roughly ZAR/ ...

This charming African themed restaurant serves foods such as fried plantains, pap (cornmeal), beans, meat stews and veg varietals for those with a hearty appetite. How to Eat "Skopo" aka the Sheep's Head
Переглядів 1,2 тис.4 роки тому
We tried "skopo", also known as the sheeps head or "smiley" in South Africa. Skopo is cooked by a multitude of cultures. With its soft squishy meatiness and unique aroma, skopo makes for a great meal at the centre of the dinner table to share between friends and family. Whilst we'll admit this is a highly acquired taste!, the skopo prepared by Metheto's kitchen was a dainty and well cleaned por...

My dream destination - Cape Town
Thats looking smashing . 25 year's ago i took my maar family and friends there . We had possibly the worst experience when 2 guy's chasing a 3rd with a hammer into the old shop. Blood everywhere . Everyone were screaming and shouting. Sorry to say thereafter we had lunch at Fish n Chips on the rocks. I wish that we had your experience then. Maybe someday soon.
Beautiful captions
Wow
Kalky's are the best.
We love camping. We've never been to Matroosberg but this looks amazing!
Matroosberg is a pristine camping, hiking and area for lovers of nature! It is wonderful that places like this could still exist and be opened to the public whilst being so clean, fresh and beautiful. In the winter, locals come here to experience the snow peaked mountains. There are well equipped ski huts dotted all over the land. Ideal for families and other groups. We found that visitors should have the right gear however, (including a hardy vehicle that you can drive over things like river beds, sharp rocks if needed) because the terrain is challenging to move through. It certainly is a thrill for hardy lovers of rock, river and ice we will say!
I have to give it to Kenneth. A free tour of just three people is brutally small. To give it that long with that enthusiasm with a tiny group, he's a legend, the true hero of this video. Think about it right, after working for 3 hours, Kenneth probably didn't earn enough to buy the same meal you had after going on his tour. It would be kind of you maybe to put a link to his guiding page, so he can benefit a bit more directly from your really solid recommendation for him. I'd actually love to get in touch with him to see if we can't work together on a live streaming project. Folks reading this...if you can afford it, and you end up on a small free tour as we emerge from the pandemic and travel creaks back to life, let's all remember that guides are starving right now, everywhere, and free tours work by having a critical mass/number of participants. This is the time to be tipping free tour guides big so they can pay rent, stay healthy, and be there to teach us, to lead us, to be our first friends and advocates in places yet to discover.
Thanks for the response, and yes! Kenneth was a legend. We really enjoyed the quality of the tour he conducted and learnt quite a few things about our own country we didn't know before. To contact Kenneth or other guides in Cape Town for these walking tours you can go to: facebook.com/capetownfreewalkingtours We'd appreciate you considering subscribing to our channel as well for more local South African content featuring great tours and activities!
Happily subscribed!
😂 Glad your walking tour. Cape Town is just so beautiful and full of history 🚶♂️🚶♀️
I've never heard of this place before, is it quite new? Would love to go there next time we are in Cape Town 🍷
So much history there
Wow! That's a lot of places, look forward to seeing your journeys! 😊
Yay! Thanks so much! We've loved all of them and the only regret is that it wasn't recorded at the time. It would be lovely to replay the memories. But still, more to come!
I love Hillcrest Berry Farm. We use to go when we lived in Cape Town, but haven't been there in years. I'm so glad its still so great. That hot choc looks decadent. Love supporting fellow SA UA-camrs 😊
Hi there thank you so much for this wonderful response. Hillcrest is indeed still a stunning location with great service. I was also interested in their gin & berry jam tasting experience. Perhaps we'll make the trip out again soon enough. Thanks for the comment!
Awww cool! Hey Kashi! Great that you guys have joined UA-cam👍 Welcome! New subbie #12 ;-) when I worked in the TV industry the been used to get and eat skopo and there was a whole thing about how women are not supposed to eat it 🤦
Hi there! So nice to hear from you. Glad you found the channel. Well done on yours as well. I'm not a mom but I hope that I can help with sound travel advice from time to time :) All the best to you and more to come!
