Cavite Institute (CI) Marilag Folk Dance Troupe comprises K-12 students from Silang, Cavite in the Philippines. The group, established in June 2014, sprung from that summer’s folk dance workshop, together with a choral group one, that was conceived and funded by an alumna to form part of a historical play about the town of Silang. She produced and presented the play once a year in Cavite Institute from 2014 to 2016. During the presentation of the play to cap the 2014 summer workshop, on the dance director’s recommendation, the school announced folk dance auditions for the following day. The day after, a list of dancers was drawn up and the dance troupe was born. The next day, the days-old group was entered into a folk dance competition organized every September by the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) at the Mall of Asia in Manila.
