1972 Ford Air Cleaner-Painting it the right way
One of the last pieces of the puzzle on our 1972 Ford Pick-up build is the air cleaner. We want it to look original to the truck so I painted it with a good urethane and brought it back to new.

Переглядів 410Місяць тому
So Kevin has been working on a 1956 Ford truck for some time now and it is at the stage where fenders and the box need some bodywork and paint. I do a little fine tuning then spray some primer and paint. See the fresh paint on the fenders at the end of the video.

1972 Ford F100 4X4 Short Box: Project Red-painting the doors
I think a long box is quite special in its own right. They are unique. Lots of short boxes out there already so hope you keep this one a long box!
How's she goin'? Stevo you did up that air cleaner as good as a hood on a car!! Great work again. Take 'er easy!!
Can't wait to see it all painted up thank you for the video
Stevo is a master of fine detail. I admire his skills and patience.
it looks like brand new
Just followed this video for my 2005 Canyon! Such a helpful video! 😊
How's she goin'? It seems to me diagnosing the fault is pretty easy some times, but actually changing the part is not so straight forward!!! What a battle to get to it and then make the electrical disconnections and then the reconnects. Certainly something you can do yourself, but it ain't easy eh! Nice job and you only bled a little!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
I think I got off pretty lucky. There are vehicles that require about 6 hours to replace an alternator. That is why I like the older vehicles. It would take me about ten minutes to replace the one in my 71 Chevy. I know my truck is a 2008 but I was surprised I had no warning. Good for awhile now. Thanks Mike. Stevo
Very informative excellent job 👍
I got off pretty lucky. It quit about 2 miles from the acreage so an easy rescue for Kevin. It could have been 30 below so I am not complaining. Thanks Wayne. Stevo
I think they're making the cars and trucks harder to work on so you have to take them in over in the United States I heard a couple times that they wanted that lock the hood that you had to come in like the transmission in my Equinox you got to take the transmission out change the filter I still like the 70s and later cars and trucks but I am glad that you got it finished awesome job thank you for the video
The automotive industry is becoming evil. I am hearing nasty things all the time. They are definitely making it so the average guy can not work on your vehicle. There are only a few die hard's out there that still work on their own stuff. Glad my vehicles are still workable. Thanks. Stevo
My old skin tears like paper so every time I work on anything like that it looks like I was attacked by a bunch of cats...that's another thing I like about Subaru's.. the alternator it right up on top,,only takes 10 to 15 minutes to change it out.
The newer vehicles are getting tougher to work on everyday. They are designing them so you have to take it in. Glad to hear the Subaru is an easier fix. That is just common sense engineering. Thanks Vern. Stevo
Shorts and a motorbike in Canada, in November! Awesome! Nice to see the finished project, well done Stevo
16:55 it isn’t a successful repair unless you bleed 🩸. If you think you are done, and you have not bled, it isn’t going to work, you have overlooked something.
I am very glad I heal quick cause I would have bled to death years ago. If you are not bleeding, you're not trying. This was still not a bad change out unlike my 71 Chevy that would require about 10 minutes and only about a half of a beer. Thanks. Stevo
OK Steve I always take out the easier bolts first so my life is hell when all the weight is on the haeder bolt making worse. . LOL that alternator is WAY down there. I can here it!!! Great video sir
Not like the old Chevy where it would only take my 10 minutes to do a swap. I think your truck would be quite easy as well. I should be good for awhile now. Thanks Bruce. Stevo
How's she goin'? My very first brand new car was a 74 Super Beetle. I'm looking forward to seeing this project! Take 'er easy!!
This is going to be a big project. My first car was a 69 Beetle so I am trying to revisit my youth. So you were ultra cool at one point in your life, welcome to the club. If you owed your Beetle for a while, it would sure teach you art of road side repairs. Thanks Mike. Stevo
@@stevoj8959 You ain't lying!! My very 1st car was a used 65 beetle. And Janet and I changed the engine in that car 3 times!! In the end, when I went to trade it in on the brand new 74 beetle and I was trying to negotiate a better deal the salesman said, "You keep your old Beetle and I'll throw in a radio." LOL I took the deal!! LOL
@@GrampiesWorkshop That is so awesome. Made me smile. Thanks Mike.
You should be an archaeologist
It felt like I was digging a Dinosaur. One does not realize how cool nature is until you take a closer look. Thanks for tuning in. Stevo
Did anyone catch the name of the other product at 9:15?
great job im looking right now for one you do body work for people
These old 56's are getting tough to find now because of their popularity. We have an old 56 Mercury left and then we are out of those years for project. Bodywork is one of those things I do and I am going to miss the old Fords. Let me know if you want a pick of the old Merc. Thanks. Stevo
I can't wait for this next build thank you for this video
I think about this build everyday. Lots of decisions to be made. Stay tuned. thanks. Stevo
Awesome job 👍
This will be as big as a 56 build. Looking forward to it though. Thanks Wayne. Stevo
Commenting as I go. 2:40 There you go using your head. Call me if you are sick !!!!! That new empty tank is a true bonus!!!! Your compressor is as noisy as mine. 2X2 beatles in one !!!!!
This is going to be a fun build. I thought my compressor was going down but the belts were slipping. A little belt dressing cured the problem. Thanks Bruce. Stevo
maybe you could make a dune buggy, I had two different ones. the first one was a lot of fun, but I got a lot fatter when I got the second one and I was too big to fell comfortable in it. lol
I have already done the dune buggy thing back when I was young. Though if a Manx dune buggy body rolls my way, I am in. Looking at the floor pan. It is really rough. Thanks Vern. Stevo
awesome
I am starting to visualize the build now, just have to hit the start button. Thanks. Stevo
i would just like to know where people like you are getting the parts for these older machines...who makes them? cant be the factory
That is what I found to be the most difficult, finding parts. Found some on ebay but the shipping hurts. Finding the odd motorcycle salvage yard works but apparently this bike is a rare model so some of the parts I wanted, they don't have. Glad it is done, sticking to the cars. Thanks. Stevo
@@stevoj8959 good job though
I'm super impressed with how it turned out stevo, I'm sorry I missed everything leading up to this. I'll have to go back and see. One question though, I assume JB weld is fuel resistant? If that's the case I could have used it a few times on things. Again fantastic job my friend
Good to hear from you. As far as I know, JB Weld is fuel resistant and I think they make some stuff for fuel tanks. I had a Beetle way back when I was young er with a hole in the block and I would plug it with JB and it would last a couple years before the oil would start to seep then I would do it all over again. With that bowl leaking, there are not that many options. So far so good. Take care Dave. Stevo
Very Nice Steve!
It has turned out to be a cool ride. There were a few unsures about this project but it turned out great. Just have to wait till spring to enjoy it. Thanks. Stevo
How's she gin'? Have you ever noticed that things are harder to put back together than to take apart!! LOL You did a great job reassembling this bike and it looks awesome. Happy motoring!! LOL Take 'er easy!!
The tough part of putting thing back together is having to clean and fix things before you assemble, drives me crazy. Time really slips by as well and it takes way longer than you think it will. But it looks good and worth the effort. Thanks Mike. Stevo
OH YEAH !!!!
Finally got er put back together. No extra parts and no extra bolts. Thanks Bruce. Stevo
looks mint
Really happy with how it turned out. Was hoping to enjoy it a bit but we now have snow on the ground so I will just have to look at it till spring. Thanks. Stevo
I touched the this video by accident but I wanted to watch it again what I was trying to say the comments came up but the bar that you put the common in it won't come on so I had to watch it a second time to actually get that bar to come up but it was worth it this way you get the credit for it thank you again for the video
Awesome. You know that has happened to me when I have tried to reply to someone. But sometime a movie is better the second time. Thanks. Stevo
Awesome job on your Yamaha thank you for the video
It really looks like a clean bike now. Snow is on the ground now so will have to wait till spring to enjoy it. Still fun to look at it. Thanks. Stevo
Excellent job, better than new👍
It is looking new. I am most happy with the graphics and paint. Lots of snow here now so will have to wait till spring for a good cruise. Thanks Wayne. Stevo
Turned out really nice. The tins turned out like they would if it was a new bike really sharp. Can't wait to see what you're up to next
Out of the whole build, I am most happy with the graphics and the paint. I am glad my buddy Dom talked me into the decals instead of painting the graphics Thanks. Stevo
that looks so good you might want to keep it in the house with you so no one steals it.
Well that thought did cross my mind. Might as well have cause I had parts in my living room since spring. I think all cool guys keep their bikes in the living room. Did find some room in my shed, all locked up. Thanks muchly Vern. Stevo
Another Great project Stevo!!! I have a buddy that is starting to restore an old Grand Prix and I told him to watch your vids. I told him you do excellent work for a home garage guy! Keep 'em coming!!
That is awesome that you forward my channel. Got to love the Grand Prix. It is their turn to become popular and for good reason. Not sure how easy it is to find parts but it will be a cool ride when it is done. Thanks. Stevo
Good tip! However, you might have overlooked a potential safety hazard. In case of a fire emergency, anyone inside the shop could be trapped if the door gets jammed. I would recommend installing a metal U-shaped sliding bracket for the bars, secured with a safety pin. This way, anyone inside could easily remove the pin and lift the bars to exit safely. Keep up the great tips!
That is a good tip. I also thought about hinging the security bars. There is always room for improvement. Thanks so much for the comment. Stevo
Fender = Mudguard, Muffler = Exhaust, Fasteners = Screws and bolts, oh boy!
Yep. A big bag of parts with a picture and memory to go by. Thanks. Stevo
I'm exhausted just watching. I think I 'm calling the stump guy. Lol! 😅 But thanks for sharing.
This was a big job but the average root only takes about 3-4 hours. Nothing wrong with hiring it out either. Thanks. Stevo
I love this missed it sorry
Got to love these 56's. This has been a big project for Kevin but getting close to done. Thanks Bruce. Stevo
Look awesome thank you for the video
A bigger project than I first thought but what project isn't. Glad it's done but will have to wait till spring for that big cruise. Thanks. Stevo
How's she goin'? Stevo is there anything you can't bring back from the trash? Those fenders looks like new and the muffler and pipe are really sparkling now too!! Great job! Take 'er easy!!
I have really never had a project where I had to polish a bunch of chrome but that steel wool really works good. There are still some scuffs from road rash but over all, it looks pretty good. Thanks Mike. Stevo
How's she goin'? Wow Stevo, that seat looked like it was ready for the trash, but worked hard on it and made it look better than new!! Very impressive. And no sanding!! A little grinding, but no sanding!!! LOL Take care!!
I was a little stressed about getting started on this seat. I have never done upholstery before but it turned out awesome. I had to fire the more than usual number of brain cells to fix the rust but I got er done. Like all projects, you just have to get started. Thanks Mike. Stevo
Looks awesome THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
The bike is looking good but the weather not so. Will have to take er for a cruise in the spring. That's okay. Thanks. Stevo
Wow those fenders looks like new Greatwork
I was surprised at how good the fenders were. Rust is always a problem but with the right chemicals, most problems get solved. Thanks Bruce. Stevo
you are gonna make that look like new, if your aren't careful... lol it's lookin good.,
Yes Vern, a fine line between practical and looking too good. As you know, you get into a project with certain expectations then you do one extra thing that leads to another. I am fighting the demons on my upcoming VW project. How far does one go. Thanks man. Stevo
Excellent job Steve 👍
Never thought I would do a bike and have concluded that this will be my last. It is tough finding parts and is kind of stressing me out, cramping my style. I will just have to find a Ford to work on and all will be good. Thanks Wayne. Stevo
Very Nice Steve.
The bike is looking good. Was hoping for a cruise this year but will have to wait till spring. Thanks. Stevo
Good effort
This project took more effort than I thought it would. Parts are hard to find and problems pop up everywhere. Going to stick to automotive world. Thanks. Stevo
Really enjoy watching your videos. I used to have a 1980 Yamaha XJ750A I repainted the tank and the side panels olive green and red at the time it sounded good LOL but unfortunately big got stolen back in the mid 90s. Sorry about the edits there was some things I didn't add.
Sorry to hear about your loss. You work hard to create something cool and some dirtbag ruins your day. This project was larger than I expected but it looks great. I found that parts are hard to find and problems are always popping up. Stick to the cars I say. Thanks. Stevo
GREAT work on the '56! It turned out stunning! Thanks for posting!
This was a good project. The best part of this build were the owners. When you have the support and commitment the project steams ahead. They have won a few awards with this truck and it feels good. Thanks for tuning in. Stevo
@ Absolutely!
pretty crappy to start with but great now.
It took some work but it does look good now. It is always a bit stressful when you have never tackled a job like this. Thanks Vern, Stevo
