Yea they essentially turned ranger from fighter/druid/rogue hybrid to "hunter's mark: the class". Oh and those things from tasha's that actually bumped up ranger to "acceptable"? Yea, lets NERF that stuff... as if ranger needed NERFS for some weird odd reason. You know how hunter is the "ranger ranger"? Instead of the hunter's mark nonsense... what if they just added the hunter options and the hunter subclass gets a second choice on top of the original choices? That would increase the baseline effectiveness of the ranger and make the hunter range shine REAL nice.

On a more constructive and less political note because i actually want to add something of value to the comment section here: As a DM i'm going to resort to just allowing anyone who plays ranger to just pick some homebrew ranger rework or subclass as long as it doesnt feel too overpowered in my games but remains fun to play. Personally have a druid/ranger multiclass that is a ratfolk and collects and uses rats. Titled "The Sovereign Bound Together (or The Rat King for short)" he uses rats and turns into rats for all manner of spywork, espionage, infiltration, distanced communication, disruption, and theft, best used in City locations like Waterdeep based out within the sewers. A scottish author named Alasdair Gray wrote: "If you want to know the city, ask the rats." So i need ranger to be good, and it's just not.

for me it's a matter like this If they explicitly stated that it's world __ With a comic book tie in then there's a already set world and you have to stick with it. they didn't do that If you say this is earth in the year 1040 ish then you're ignoring some of the best points of conflict about society and how we've evolved over that time. They didn't do that I think they just sat back and said 'Fuck it. let's use noire asthetics in a world that is socially near the modern age so we can still tell the character story we want.' and that was the right call. There are some gripes i have about the show but they're all minor. The internet freaking about the kissing scene would be at least somewhat understandable if the above 2 scenerios happened. they didn't. This is a new world for batman that still holds true and respects the characters. Harley has always been bi so it's not out of character for her to kiss a woman so logically who gives a fuck.

What bugs me is that Batman takes basically a backseat. The modernification of the setting is annyoing but was to be expected and I can ignore it. Batman being a pretty bad detective and also only a mediocre fighter... you could point to him still learning the ropes. It's still annoying. Him actually not having all that much screen time in his own show though annoys me the most. This is much closer to a show about Barbara Gordon and Renée Montoya. Which, if they would actually commit to that would be awesome! A show about Gotham's police department with these two at the forefront? Amazing idea! I would watch that. But it is BATMAN THE CAPED CRUSADER... and we see comparitively little of Batman. And he either heavily relies on others or his achievements get downplayed.

My only complaints were... 1) Yes, I agree with Deadpool; that one character DID need a dialect coach. And also needed to tone down his goofiness a bit. 2) What a waste of a compelling villain! If the multiverse Phase in general weren't so much of a clusterf**k, she could have been a major, if not the definitive villain for the arc! The rest were nitpicks like you said. Even my gf and I were wondering how Wolverine manages to get drunk. My guess is that maybe a psychosomatic element of his healing factor was broken. Kind of like his "whiskey dick" claws. I half agree. I think the racism discourse around orcs, drow etc is a mixed bag. That approach to the topic comes out of academic literary criticism. Around the 1960s critics became very interested in not just reading a text on its own terms but situating it in the larger context of history and culture, and seeing how that changes the possible meanings. Through that kind of lens, lots of things in literature take on more sinister connotations. Tolkien’s orcs are presented as an irredeemably savage and uncivilised race, in the same way that various non-white peoples have been presented throughout history as justification for violence and exploitation against them. The point, in that academic tradition, would be to recognise this as a source of tension in the text and an indicator of how hard it is to avoid entrenched ideology of the real world finding its way into even fantasy fiction. Pointing to it and saying “this proves Tolkien was a racist” is a more recent phenomenon, very common in online discourse, and a misunderstanding of that method of literary criticism. As you say, Tolkien was manifestly anti-racist in his politics. All that said, the question for D&D is whether most players want to engage with a game world in which irredeemably savage and uncivilised races exist. Clearly there’s a strong appetite now for fantasies that make a conscious effort to buck history and escape that kind of ideology, and they’re responding to that. As you say, that’s a business decision (and probably a good one). One place I think you’re wrong is when you say the fact is there’s a balance to strike being doing that and staying true to the original vision of worlds like Faerun. That’s an opinion, not a fact. If WotC want to move away from a vision for those settings that some fans are still attached to, that’s their prerogative, and they may well have decided that from a business perspective trying to balance the two approaches would be less successful than leaning in to the one that seems to have more fan momentum behind it. I think if the direction WotC want to take the game doesn’t appeal to you, you should just own that and say you dislike it, rather than present the balanced option as somehow objectively better than what they’re doing. And maybe see it as freeing: D&D is going in a direction you don’t like, so don’t buy the new books. Let your eye wander to the many, many alternatives. I’m very much looking forward to completely ignoring D&D 5.5 (though more for game design reasons than socio-political ones). This is an exciting time!

One d and d sounds like it's going to be a game for failed directors and improv actors. The 5th edition had its problems, and it looks like the 6th edition is just going to build on them. 5th edition was a bounded system where they really wanted everyone to play the same character. When they relieved the book that added many playable races, they proved that. Want to play as a centaur character? Well, we can't have you be a large character. You're going to have to roleplay as a medium-sized unit. Centaurs are known for their athleticism and strength. 3.5 knew this and gave them a plus 6 strength modifier. You can't have your centaur character greatly stronger than the rest of the players.

Yeah... anytime fantasy games add in real world concepts, it just ruins the game. Most real world concepts as of late have mainly been woke bullshit - but then we just homebrew it out, because EFF. THAT. xD

I hate how people always insist they're not gatekeeping. Gatekeeping is a good thing, a lack of it is a large part of what got D&D to the state where it's currently at. Almost across the board, the larger a thing becomes, the more shitty it is for the original fans who loved it from the start.

My favorite Race is also Human. Mostly because many other races in D&D have stats, but they don't have culture. Elves, Dwarfs, Gnomes, I can take the best elements from other RPGs like Warhammer or Pathfinder and add strong Clan and Honor culture in Dwarfs or Bleaching in Gnomes, Elves are special in my eyes for longevity and reincarnation. Many other races don't have that, and because of it I don't gravitate towards them. Humans are kind a different for me, as I think of them more as a part of a culture (is this character from Waterdeep, or from Calimport) and I build them based on values of their homeland. I miss that in most D&D games, where most DMs or Players don't think too much about how alient to human thinking are different races or how incredible variable can they be just by taking inspirations from different real life cultures. Also I'm Polish and for some people I'm a POC. If you think that way, please go away from me.

I fully agree. It's strange how they are trying to make all races blank slates... It ultimately ruins the suspension of disbelief. It's just not really feasible. Of COURSE each race CAN be X, Y, or Z, but their nature and culture determine the likelihood of making said decision and how said decision was made. Let's continue with Orcs as an example. Orcs are most well known for being brutish and tribal. On average, they are fairly unintelligent, vicious, and physically strong in comparison to other races. This does not mean there cannot be an Orc mage. On the contrary, it is an important tool of character growth and development of overcoming challenges; racial challenges included. An Orc mage, being fairly rare, may actually be seen as a leader among the Orcs as they at least know this particular individual has more intelligence and thus has better decision making skills. This evolves the worldbuilding because the Orcs, once broken and tribal, are now becoming unified, organized, and tactical ON TOP OF their already superb combat capabilities. That whole idea, both the good and bad, made this one Orc outright AWESOME. ....But we can't have that if they are all just blank slates. Now it's a bunch of "ok, whoop-dee-doo, you're an orc and a mage. Anyone can be a mage. Moving on." A boring, sterile environment.

I feel like they're just making the setting bland and lifeless. All the flavor, character and potential hooks are being erased. A blank slate doesn't help new dms run a good game. There's very little inspiration for new players and gms

i recently started dm'ing my first campaign and as ive begun absorbing content to get knowledge and such i started to notice how much people inject real life non-sense into a fantasy game. one video about how Orcs are problematic because they have the characteristics of evil, stupid, etc. and arent a playable race. A video about the new rules coming out about how its good that backgrounds decide stat bonus's rather than race because "its weird that elves would have more intelligence than other races". which on that note, now that they are distinctly 'species' instead of races because that is a more proper term to define the races of dnd, its not at all problematic to say another species has more intellect than another. easiest example is Humans compared to just about any other animal in existence. there is just to much of people injecting their 'problems' into a fantasy world that doesnt confine to their world view. even though with the power of homebrew, it always could have. It just irks me that some people are acting like this is something to concern themselves with. certainly by next release Goblins are just misunderstood and misrepresented because of real world racism.
