Good video , but the the TV show called in the heat of night was film on covington ga, I vist that town offer a lot in the earl 2000 . Had a lady friend that live there.

Did you know that Mississippi and Alabama was once part of Georgia. Georgia claimed those territories up until 1802. When Georgia ceded the Territory to the United States.

I'm from Sparta but it's in Georgia Hancock county Georgia. And my town is 80% black and the county is 90% black.

The television show " Heat of The Night" although was not film there, was probably produced to shine the light on that history of Sparta Mississippi. I assume that is how you were allowed to drive through with no issues, the residence there knowing that they have been set in Hollywood spotlights for a reputation of being unwelcoming, so I assume they play it cool

Thanks for sharing." Sparta" Mississippi is really deep in those woods, looks like it's out of touch with everything. I just went to research the demographics of Sparta , which indicates it's 97.27% White, 1.85% others (??) and 0% Blacks or any other, which tells me a lot. lol. I did get to understand that the name Sparta comes from an ancient Greek name, meaning a place that is militaristic in history and maintains many of slaves who are treated worse than bad. Well now we know why they call it Sparta, I could only imaging what it must have been like down in those parts prior to the 60's. Most likely hell if you were Black. I admire you for your bravery of going alone to share with us places and history. I am a retire U.S Marine and could not have driven through without being at the ready. Thanks again for sharing

My hometown. It was a bustling and thriving downtown through the 1970's. Then Wal-Mart came to town, set up shop on hwy 51 and destroyed downtown businesses. Of course, a terrible lack of leadership including bad small-minded mayors also plagued the town. It could've been great.

I grew up in a town 20 miles south of there. The pizza hut and movie theatre at 20:40 was where I went on a first date way back in the 80's. There are some nice residential neighborhoods in Grenada which are not shown in this video.

When you turned left on Church st around 5:20 ish, around 5:27 ish there was two large houses on the right. Right about the time you turned left again. If you had gone straight that 2nd house on the right at the stop sign is where I lived for some time growing up in the 80s. We walked to school on that road that ran between our house and the next one, back down to the school. Church street is right off of the main street that runs through town. I loved that big ole house. It had 7 bedrooms 3 baths, a huge living room, den, very large formal dining room, breakfast area and kitchen and another kitchen area off the back. The basement was almost as large as the first floor and was a game room It was really 4 stories including the huge basement and very large attic. Sadly it burned about a decade after we moved from there, they pretty much gutted it and a lot of the original part of the home is gone and all new. Most of the upstairs is gone. It had 5 bedrooms up stairs and 2 down. 2 huge baths down stairs and a large one up stairs. It was an amazing home. I wish we had never moved. Lol

Soon to retire and trying to decide whether to settle in a small African American town in the south, or settle somewhere in the Caribbean, Itta Bena seems like a nice place to resettle to relax, but it seems like there is little progress being made by the resident. You showed some nice big churches in the video, but I assume those attendees are the 5% close by the nice homes, Thanks for sharing

I was wondering if you could go to Jessup County Mississippi, where they made the movie Mississippi burning. I think the county is Nashoba county Mississippi.

There used to be a really great fishing hole around this area. My Papa & i spent many an hour up there just enjoying ourselves waiting on a fish to bite. Had a few little cabins as well i think. The guy who had the lake was a millionaire who came up with some way to tunnel under roads safely to install new pipes & wires just whatever you want put under that road. Dude sold his idea & retired & opened a fishing lake
